ORLY Color Blast Disney Belle Collection Swatches & Review

by Lisa Heath

Purchased by Me

Back in February I swung through Walgreens to pick up the ORLY Color Blast Elsa collection, which was the Frozen inspired set.  I was fine with that collection and felt a lot of the colors were a good match. Now ORLY Color Blast has released a Belle collection which is inspired by Beauty and The Beast which is probably my second favorite Disney movie (first being The Little Mermaid) and I picked those up as well.

Before I get into photos, I’m going to go ahead and say what a ton of people have said about this set.

It does not properly represent this Disney classic.  At all.

If you were to ask me what colors I think would represent Beauty and the Beast, you would need a gorgeous yellow for Belle’s dress and a rich blue for Beast.

Neither shade is in this collection.  While it’s a pretty collection, the shades were a complete “miss” for me because it isn’t Beauty and the Beast and it made me a bit grumpy when swatching it because I could think of a few Disney movies this collection could have been better for.

Let’s move along with the swatches

Nose In A Book

Nose In A Book

Nose In A Book is a vibrant light blue creme.  I used 2 coats for these photos and had no application issues.

This is the only shade I can see fitting. It is semi in line with her outfit (not the yellow ball gown)

Crazy Old Maurice

Crazy Old Maurice

Crazy Old Maurice is a vibrant almost minty turquoise creme.  Application was good, but the formula was a bit thin so I had to be careful not to pick up too much or I would have flooded my cuticles.

Crazy Old Maurice isn’t represented well with this shade.

I used 3 thin coats for these photos.

Enchanted Rose

Enchanted Rose

Enchanted Rose is a fuchsia with fine pink shimmer. This was a sheer shade and I needed 3 coats to build up to opacity, otherwise no issues at all.

Tea With Mrs. Potts

Tea With Mrs Potts

Tea With Mrs. Potts is an incredibly pale baby pink.  This applied like a typical pastel and was streaky on the first 2 coats but evened out on the third coat. Slight self leveling issues, but nothing incredibly noticeable.

Break The Spell

Break The Spell

Break The Spell is a bright pink leaning violet creme. This was a bit watery and flooded my cuticles a little.  I used 3 coats for these photos.

Positively Primeval Gaston

Positively Primeval Gaston

I saved this one for last.  How is Gaston the shimmery peachy orange shade in the collection?  This baffled me a bit.  Pretty color, no doubt – but for Gaston? No.

While I loved this color, the application was the worst of the set.  I used 3 coats for these photos but it applied patchy and had a thick formula.

Overview

PicMonkey Collage

It’s safe to say that overall I’m not impressed with this collection.  Two of the shades really were nice and I’m glad I now own them (Nose In A Book and Crazy Old Maurice) but none of the shades are incredibly unique.

As far as a Beauty and the Beast theme?  This isn’t it and the child in me was really disappointed in that.

Do I regret buying them? A little.  Will I buy the next set of Disney inspired shades, even if the movie isn’t well represented? More than likely.  I do weird crap like that a lot.

Price: $6.99 Each

Where To Buy: Exclusively at Walgreens

I will have a comparison post up this week comparing these 6 shades to the 12 shades in the Elsa collection.  You can still find some of the Elsa shades in Walgreens if you missed those (I know mine still had several)

What did you think?  Were you ok with this as a Beauty and the Beast collection?

Okay, very confused by the actual color choices in relation to the theme (as you said), but the colors themselves are quite pretty! Gorgeous swatches as always <3

That one is a little different than most!

Since my reference to Beauty & The Beast is Jean Cocteau’s B&W version, it doesn’t matter to me what the shades are. But these sure are pretty!

Ugh, this is so not a Beauty and the Beast collection! I’m really sad to hear Gaston’s formula is so bad since that is my favorite colour from the bunch. I may just have to find a similar colour elsewhere. Thank you for sharing your honest opinion on these!

Right? It’s not at all! Gaston looked nice on, so I was disappointed it had the worst formula of them all!

I understand your disappointment when referencing the colors to the movie. But I really love pretty much all of the colors and would totally buy them (although I need to find out if Orly is 5-free…, I have never bought this brand). Thanks for letting us know that it is exclusive to Walgreens. And thanks for your honest opinion on the formula’s (I normally don’t read many negative feedback comments from you so I was not sure if you would let us know if it is crappy, so I am glad to know you will!). Too bad Gaston has the worst/or most difficult formula, I really like that one. Thanks for sharing.

Had they presented these colors as a regular collection or even a different Disney movie, I would have liked them more.

I do give formula feedback as I experience it, and usually its only one or so in a collection, but unfortunately I had more issues with this set than most.

Thanks for commenting Katie!

It’s kind of unfortunate that most of the formulas weren’t that great, and that they totally missed their mark on the inspiration. I do like the color of most of these though.

Yeah I was so disappointed in the formulas overall!

I agree that “Nose In a Book” fits the theme, and maybe “Tea with Mrs. Potts” – because it reminds me of the wardrobe color )) you know, that scene when Mrs.Potts brings Belle tea and the wardrobe starts offering dresses for dinner?

But Gaston – no. Just no.

Crazy Old Maurice is so pretty. Belle is probably my favourite Disney princess.

I am also disappointed in this set. Just another way for a company to make a quick buck! Grrrr! But I do like Crazy Old Maurice, though it really doesn’t represent him.

I love the Gaston shade the most- but I’m disappointed to know that you had the most issues with the application on that one! Such a bummer.

Positively Primeval Gaston is a gorgeous shade, but the names and theme of this collection do not match the colors at all :/.

I’m soooo confused by this collection. I like some of the colors here but what is the theme? What is going on? Where is the yellow from Belles dress?? Lol!! Maybe they put the wrong colors out with this collex? Either way, great swatches

Definitely a very weird collection. I like the shades but they do not make me think of Beauty and the Beast at all. Maybe Ariel but definitely not Belle.

Honeygirlk May 28, 2015 - 10:15 am

Ah…t he shades are gorgeous… but I would be a little frustrated myself if the colors really didn’t blend well in reference to the movie – especially since it is one of my favorites.

None of these catches my eye but I’m sure they will be popular due to the theme and wider distribution.

There’s nothing wrong with the colors, but you’re right, this collection doesn’t say Beauty and the Beast at all. Too bad there aren’t a navy and a yellow!

I loooooove Beauty & the Beast. So sad this collection doesn’t fit with its inspiration! But the blue and teal shades really are gorgeous.

I completely agree! Pretty colors but not a single one says Beauty and the Beast to me.

Some great shades for sure ( I quite like Tea With Mrs. Potts) but you’re so right- they don’t work for Beauty and the Beast at all.

i can totally see the colours have nothing to do with the cartoon or fairytale! What’s the point of naming a collection after one and not being inspired by its colours I just can’t understand!

Yeah, Orly was smoking crack when they designed this collection for sure :-( The shades are super pretty but not something I would see when I think of Beauty & the Beast!!

I agree with you – none of these really scream “Beauty and the Beast,” but all the shades are gorgeous.

I live in the US. I have contacted the ORLY Facebook page (and received a generic no-help answer). I am e-mailing Walgreens right now. Where did you find these nail polishes? They weren’t in my local store and they’re not *anywhere* on the Walgreens website. Any suggestions?

I grabbed Gaston, and it’s gorgeous. I completely agree that these colors don’t match what I would choose for the movie! I found some of the Elsa polishes for 50% off at my Walgreens. :)

I bought the mini pack that has 4 of the colors. I used the Gaston color tonight & whole heartedly agree with the application. I used 3 coats & its streaky as well as a tad goopy. Being that it’s my first Orly polish I’ve used, I’m not a fan. Only plus is that it dries fast.
