January Birchbox Part One!

by Lisa Heath

Nick and I both receive Birchbox.  I started my subscription in March of 2011 and it has its ups and downs.  Some months I think “WOW! So glad I have this!” but other months I think “I spent $10 bucks on this??”.  Overall though, I do enjoy getting a goody box around the 15th of each month and I have found some amazing items that I would never have tried otherwise!

Today Nick received his very first box.  I was excited because I knew this one would contain a mini Zoya nailpolish and I was right – he (well me…) got a mini Zoya Kristen.  Kristen is a gorgeous powder blue color with a bit of a grey cast to it.  It is a cream, so no fun glitters or duochrome, but its still beautiful.  Kristen released with Zoya’s Feel Collection a few months ago and a full sized bottle can be purchased for $8.00 at select beauty salons, Ulta and Zoya.com.

The next item in the box was Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Eau de Parfume sample spray.  I have seen this perfume before, but never stopped to sniff it.  It’s actually not too bad.  Not really something I would generally wear, but overall it had a pleasant scent.  Viva La Juicy is a scent of wild berries and mandarin with floral notes of gardenia and jasmine.  There are other notes of honeysuckle, praline and caramel as well.  On first spray I wasn’t too sure about it and crinkled my nose a bit.  Nick sprayed it into a napkin and said “Ow my nose burns!”  But we both agreed that once the scent dried down, it actually wasn’t bad at all and kind of liked it.  Would I purchase a full bottle for $69-$89 dollars?  No.  I’m glad I got to try it and I will use the rest of the tester without an issue.  Viva La Juicy is available at various stores including Sephora, Macy’s and JuicyCouture.com

C.O. Bigelow Shampoo and Conditioner set was also in this box.  I haven’t used it just yet – but based on scent alone, I love it.  It has a soothing yet refreshing scent because of the Lavendar and Peppermint.  Nice little pick-me-up without being too in your face.  I’m sure I will be doing a full review post just on this duo – so keep your eyes peeled for it!  C.O. Bigelow. You can get C.O. Bigelow online at Bigelowchemists.com

The last item in this box was Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Birchbox Pink.  Birchbox Pink is an exclusive Birchbox color!  I have already done a review on this gloss (I got it in my December box). To view it go here.

There was also a Larabar Mini Bar in the box which was a natural bar with dried fruits, nuts and other wholesome ingredients (according to its description) but I took on little nibble and honestly couldn’t eat it.  So not my thing.  The texture was weird to me and … just not me.

If you are interested in joining Birchbox, just go to Birchbox.com, fill out your beauty profile so they can match you to a box and it is only $9.95 a month!
