Polish Pickup September 2020 | All Hallows Eve

by Lisa Heath

Press Sample of the Polish Pickup
September 2020 | All Hallows Eve

Disclosure: I am a paid employee of Polish Pickup for their Social Media. While this post isn’t sponsored, I am an employee of their shop

So this month was quite the cluster. A lot of people don’t realize the behind the scenes work that goes on and deadlines everyone has. Usually, when you see maker preview go up in the main group, there’s still 2-3 weeks for makers to get things to swatchers before the swatcher’s deadline to turn in photos. However, August’s shop was later in the month (7th) and September is earlier (4th) which means there was only a 9 day gap between maker preview going up and photos being due. This made things a little tighter this month… but I got it done. So now we get to look at my review for the items I received for the Polish Pickup September 2020 shop – All Hallows Eve!

This month I did .. 114 (I think?) and more is still on the way. I know for sure I am still waiting on Lucky 13’s offerings, but I feel like there’s another I’m waiting on… that might be all in my head though.

This month brings us a lot of deeper shades, Fall colors are rolling in and there were a LOT of thermals. More than I anticipated. I’m not complaining – I like thermals, but I was just surprised at how many there were. All Hallow’s Eve was selected for September which does give everyone a chance to play with possible Halloween themed goodies in time for Halloween. Also – Fall stuff for beginning of Fall.

For all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, Sweet & Sour Lacquer Gloss Sauce as top coat (except for the photos showing Glisten & Glow, Top Shelf Lacquer and Vibrant Vinyls), and Anchor & Heart Lacquer Matte Top Coat unless otherwise specified.

I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I get the most done at night, so I swatch a lot at night. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model. That is a link for those wanting to look, but it’s not an affiliate link. The brand did send them for me to post on Instagram too though, so it is a press sample (which I posted about a few months ago)

This month I found a multichrome skull to assist me with photos – and I named him Henry. I’ve been asked about Henry a few times, so here’s my Amazon affiliate link for him

This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.

The September shop will go from September 4th through September 7th.

Let’s get this going.

77 Nail Lacquer | The Coven Of Requiem

Inspiration: Inspired by a painting of a night time gathering, an unknown ritual.

Description: The Coven Of Requiem is a black jelly base with large particle pigment that shifts orange to pink to red, with silver holographic micro bar glitter mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. There is a slight texture, but 1 coat of top coat smoothed it out. However – I did have some wayward bar glitters I ended up using tweezers to pick off before the polish dried.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 600 US / 25 UK

Alchemy Lacquers | Blood Moon

Inspiration: Inspired by the spectacularly spooky red shade that the moon turns when there is a total lunar eclipse.

Description: Blood Moon is a navy jelly leaning crelly with pink to red to purple to orange shifting transparent flakes, turquoise holographic glitter, holographic flakes and turquoise to purple flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 150 US / 10 UK

All Mixed Up Lacquers | I Put A Spell on You

Inspiration: Inspired by a cauldron with an eerie blue and green misting potion.

Description: I Put A Spell On You is a green leaning turquoise jelly based scattered holographic with blue shimmer and iridescent shifting flakes that flash all colors of the rainbow. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Gourdy Soap | Alter Ego Body Care Products

Inspiration: Inspired by Seasonal gourds

Description: Hand created soap, colored in brick red, mustard yellow and a green leaning teal. Lightly scented in a fresh, clean fragrance oil. This has a light lather and a light scent, so it’s perfect for a guest bathroom or those who don’t care for perfumey soaps. After using, there was no residue left behind and my hands felt squeaky clean. It’s currently in our guest bathroom, even though we don’t have guests coming soon… we use that bathroom enough that we’ll go through it easily.

Price: $4.00 | Cap: 20 US / 5 UK

Alter Ego Body Care Products | Nothing Good Happens After Midnight

Inspiration:All Hallow’s Eve brings to mind with covens meeting after midnight, vampires flying about and zombies looking for a snack :)

Description: Nothing Good Happens After Midnight is a deep midnight blue jelly base, however it has incredible opacity and is damn near opaque at 3 thin coats. I don’t have an opaque nail line, so I don’t know if it will cover it, but it’s dark enough that it might.

I will actually be buying a backup bottle of this shade because it’s one I can see myself using quite a bit as a pedi color, as well a base for shimmers and glitters and flakes.

Price: $9.00 | Cap: None

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Something Dark & Unnatural

Inspiration: The maker’s favorite movie, Practical Magic

Description: Something Dark & Unnatural is a smokey blue creme base loaded with aqua to blue shifting shimmer, as well as micro holo flecks. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Tidal Mist Spray Lotion

Inspiration: Practical Magic Movie

Description: Tidal Mist is a light, quick absorbing, spray-able formula that takes all the effort out of application! It utilizes organic jojoba seed and coconut oils and is perfectly balanced to provide softening, soothing support for dry skin of all types. The consistency is almost watery, but when you rub it in, it leaves your skin feeling super smooth. I love using this on my legs.

Scent is called “Magick” and features dragon fruit, apple blossom, casaba melon and crisp pear. It’s a fruity floral combo, but the spray lotion is very lightly scented.

Price: $10.00 | Cap:145 US / 5 UK

Apipila Cosmeticos | Red 7

Inspiration: Inspired by dusk in a haunted house

Description: Red 7 is a cool toned medium red crelly that leans into creme territory. It has the squish of a jelly but the opacity of a creme – and it does actually stamp but the stamp won’t be as bold over dark colors as a typical creme would be. I show it here in 2 coats on index and pinky, and stamped over a milky base.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 80 US / 20 UK

Top Coat for Nail Stamping by Apipila

Inspiration: Inspired by “my plate collection”

Description: Don’t Smudge The Drawing Top Coat for nail stamping is a water based quick dry top coat perfect for applying over your stamping before a top coat to avoid smudging OR it also works over holos that alter color when you apply a QDTC. Essentially – it creates a “barrier” between the solvents in the QDTC and polish so certain polish colors don’t “bleed”

If you do brandishing powders that typically require gels too – this works for the no gel method, again between the powder and the QDTC.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK

AURORA | Give Yourself Goosebumps (Magnetic)

Inspiration: Inspired by Goosebumps “Reader Beware…You Choose the Scare” book – Escape from the Carnival of Horrors

Description: Give Yourself Goosebumps is a multichrome magnetic with a deep blue base, with magnetic flecks that shift purple, turquoise, blue and lime. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I used a magnet on the middle and ring fingers only, so you can see it both with and without a magnet.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 200 US / 20 UK

Baby Girl Lacquer | Web of Lies (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by Black Cat Caught In Spider Web Meme

Description: Web of Lies is a gunmetal (cold) to pale silver (hot) thermal with a linear holo effect and color shifting flakes, ultrachrome chameleon flakes and black shreds. The color shifting flakes flash all colors of the rainbow, while the UCC flakes primarily flash blue, purple and magenta. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 75 US / 5 UK

Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Caramel Apple Crisp

Inspiration: Inspired by Caramel Apples and Apple Crisp

Description: This month’s Acetone Antidote scent is Caramel Apple Crisp – it’s a melange of crunchy apples, baked apples, gooey caramel, cinnamon and slight hints of nuts, brown sugar and oats. (This month’s AA may come in frosted brown, shiny brown or clear glass bottles.)

This smells warm and inviting. I absolutely love it!

Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin.

Shake the vial and add the full bottle (.5oz) to 6-8oz of acetone. You can add the vial to more or less (down to 4oz of acetone, no less due to IFRA regulations). These are just suggestions for optimal scent and protection from acetone, the ratio can vary due to personal preference.

I use a full vial in 10 oz of Zoya Remove+

Price: $4.25 | Cap: None

Bees Knees Lacquer | I’ll Change the Face of Halloween

Inspiration: Inspired by one of my favorite songs by the band Ice Nine Kills about the movie Halloween

Description: I’ll Change The Face of Halloween is a brighter, bolder version of BKL’s pastel multichromes. This is a deep gold base that shifts from marigold to gold to green to bright blue with a hint of purple at the extremes. I tried capturing the shift more on my phone and my camera – but neither captured it for me. The green/bright blue and pink shifts are phenomenal and much more apparent in person. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I also did 1 quick swatch over black to show it can be a topper and it shows some shiftiness.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Sandalwood & Jasmine Rollerball Cuticle Oil | Black Dahlia Lacquer

Inspiration: Inspired by Halloween

Description: This is a vegan cuticle oil is scented with sandalwood and jasmine and packaged in a 10mL glass rollerball bottle. The sandalwood and jasmine scents are well balanced and nicely done so neither seems to be competing with the other. I am a jasmine fan – so I adore this completely and while sandalwood isn’t typically a favorite – it does combined well with jasmine.

This is a quick absorbing cuticle oil, unless you REALLY slather it on. I have been keeping this one in my bathroom so after I wash my hands, I apply a bit and rub in to avoid really dry cuticles from so much washing.

Price: $6.25 | Cap: None

Black Dahlia Lacquer | Sugar Skull

Inspiration: Sugar Skull is inspired by the Aztec ritual known as Dia de los Muertos.

Description: Sugar Skull is a black crelly base with green to blue to gold to violet and red to orange to purple shifting flakes, as well as pink to violet to blue shifting metallic flakes, and red to copper and blue to green shifting crystal flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The flakes really pop in this base, but when matte top coat is added, my heart melted! Love!

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

BLUSH Lacquers | Corn Maze

Inspiration: Inspired by a favorite fall activity, the walk-through corn maze!

Description: Corn Maze is a tan leaning yellow crelly with gold flake and holographic micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The official description says it’s a tan with yellow tones, however, on my skin tone it looked more like a soft yellow leaning into tan territory. This might be a chameleon depending on your skin tone. For reference – I’m neutral leaning cool.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

By Dany Vianna | Samhain

Inspiration: Inspired by history behind the Samhain demon from Supernatural

Description: Samhain is a pumpkin orange tinged brown base loaded with red to gold aurora pigment. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. This is another shade that blew me away as a matte polish.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 280 US / 20 UK

Effect Topper By Dany Vianna | Traveling Witches (Thermal)

Inspiration:Inspired by glittering brooms picture

Description: Traveling Witches is a clear (hot) to black (cold) thermal topper with microflakes in purple, copper and peridot. While this is a topper, I wasn’t paying attention and swatched it as a normal polish. One the first coat it was clear to black, but as you build up it has a slight beige jelly look in its warm state. So it can be used as a topper as intended or layered up on its own. Shown is 3 thin coats.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 280 US / 20 UK

By Vanessa Molina | Spooky

Inspiration: Inspired by a Halloween image of a ghost

Description: Spooky is a sheer, medium chartreuse jelly base with tons of magenta to red to orange to gold to green shifting ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

If you want a more densely packed flake effect, you can use the sponge on method, however I just brushed it on.

Despite the flake content, you should only need 1 coat of top coat to smooth over. The jelly base has a good consistency and effectively “floats” the flakes so they don’t create as much texture as one would assume.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK

Strong Base | By Vanessa Molina

Inspiration: Inspired by a pumpkin lantern image

Description: Strong Base is a base coat that has additional nutrients to help strengthen nails to avoid breakage. The base itself is tinted orange, however – it doesn’t look that way on the nail.

I don’t have breakage or weaker nails, so I cannot say if this worked or not. I will be using it over the next month on my Cindy hand and see if I notice a difference in strength.

Price: $10.50 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK

Cadillacquer | Eerie (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by a picture of eerie pumpkins in a Halloween night.

Description: Eerie is a blackened eggplant (cold) to turquoise (warm) thermal with chameleon glitters that shift red to orange to green, as well as iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The eggplant looks black at times, but you can kind of see the smokey eggplant color peek through.

Price: $13.50 | Cap: None

Cameo Colours Lacquers | FEED ME!

Inspiration: Inspired by Little Shop of Horrors

Description: FEED ME! is a green to silver to fuchsia ultrachrome base with scattered holo, red to bronze to copper, blue to violet to copper, and violet to blue to green ultrachrome chameleon flakes, as well as gold metallic micro flakes and silver holo micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Very mild texture but should still only needs 1 coat of top coat to smooth

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 95 US / 5 UK

Color Spectrum Polish | Hocus Pocus Take Me To Your Castle

Inspiration: Inspired by Hocus Pocus themed Cinderella’s Castle from Mickey Mouse’s Not So Spooky Halloween Party in Disney World.

Description: Hocus Pocus Take Me To Your Castle is a medium pink jelly base loaded with rainbow flakes, violet to red to orange ultrachrome chameleon flakes, electric blue microflakes, blue iridescent glitters, purple aurora shimmer and holo microflakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 75 US / 5 UK

Color Spectrum Polish | Just One Bite Lip Balm

Inspiration:  inspired by Snow White’s Poison Apple

Description: Just One Bite Lip Balm is a sheer red tint base with green and red shimmers, and has a red apple scent with hints of cinnamon. While this is scented, it isn’t flavored. It is a very sheer wash of color (like a “my lips but better” type wash) with a very faint shimmer.

I will pop in a photo of it on in the next couple days. My lips have been peeling (adjusting to the weather change from CA to MA)

Price: $4.00 | Cap: 30 US / 5 UK

Colores de Carol | Now You See Me, Now You Don’t (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by Halloween Charcuterie Candy Board

Description: Now You See Me, Now You Don’t is a black (cold) to clear (warm) thermal with black, orange, green and violet holo glitters in a variety of shapes and sizes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Since it does actually go totally clear when warm – this can be used as a topper over other colors or to do peek-a-boo stamping (Stamp with black so when your nails warm up, the image appears!)

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Crystal Knockout | Stingy Jack

Inspiration: Inspired by Jack-o-lanterns

Description: Stingy Jack is a yellow leaning bright orange crelly full of multichrome flakes in shades of green, purple, and copper. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Cupcake Polish | How Do You Like Meow

Inspiration: Inspired by Black Cats

Description: How Do You Like Meow is a black based linear holographic that is a one coat polish. I did use 2 out of habit, but the opacity in one coat is phenomenal. Can also be used as a stamping polish! I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Confection Duo | Cuticula

Inspiration: Inspired by Fall.

Description: This month Cuticula switched it up and is doing a Confection Duo instead of her base and top coat!

Confection is a nail and cuticle cream that helps your digits stay hydrated and looking healthy. It’s been in my nail care lineup for quite some time now, so I do know that it works quite well and comes in an assortment of yummy scents.

The two scents this month are Poison Apple and Campfire Delights.

Poison Apple smells like sweet, juicy apples with a bit of cinnamon kick to it and bubbly effervescence. The cinnamon isn’t strong, just enough to give the apple scent a little more depth.

Campfire Delights is interesting. I was fully expecting the whole S’mores thing going on, but this is a bit different. While I smell the layers of chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker – there is a touch of berry to it to add a sweetness I wasn’t expecting. It’s not strong and it mingles nicely with the other notes.

Price: $13.00 for the duo | Cap: None

Cuticula | Nightmare Moon

Inspiration: This deep vampy polish is inspired by Nightmare Moon aka Princess Luna from My Little Pony.

Description: Nightmare Moon is a warm plum crelly base with purple metallic flakes, various shifting iridescent flakes, blue shimmer, green sparks, and platinum silver flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Dries with a very mild texture, but should only require 1 coat of top coat to smooth over.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Dark Moon Esscentuals | Veil Between the Worlds Duo

Inspiration: Inspired by “Samhain is also known as the Witches New Year, a day when the Veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is its thinnest. Dark Moon Esscentuals Cuticle Scrub and Matte Mani Balm walks between the worlds of the dry and the hydrated cuticles!”

Description: Veil Between The Worlds Duo is a scrub and matte mani balm duo.

The cuticle scrub is scented in Pumpkin Apple Butter, which is a warm and sweet pumpkin scent. The scrub works well to get rid of dry skin and it adds an emulsified feeling layer behind that gives a very soft feeling to your skin.

The matte mani balm is scented as Marshmallow Fireside which is a soft and warm marshmallow fluff scent with a touch of menthol. It reminds me of a mellowed out, vanilla Vicks type scent. The menthol isn’t super strong – but you can detect it. Matte Mani Balm is a moisturizing balm that doesn’t leave a glossy residue behind when using it.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 30 US / 10 UK

Cuticle Oil Trio | Different Dimension

Inspiration: trio of cuticle oils in Candy Corn, Caramel Apple, and Pumpkin Caramel Latte scents

Description: Different Dimension has 3 more cuticle oils for us in some of our favorite Fall scents! Each one comes in a twist up click style brush pen and the scents this month are Candy Corn, Caramel Apple and Pumpkin Caramel Latte.

Candy Corn smells like the candy. It has that almost syrupy sweet sugar scent.
Caramel Apple is a blend of (you guessed it) caramel apple but with a touch of spice to it so it has a little more dimension (see what I did there)
Pumpkin Caramel Latte smells like the drink. I’m not even a pumpkin fan (team Caramel Apple over here) but this makes me wants a pumpkin caramel latte.

Price: $10.00 For Trio | Cap: None

Different Dimension | Hey Ghoul Hey

Inspiration: Inspired by Haunted Pumpkin Patch

Description: Hey Ghoul Hey is a pumpkin spice orange linear holographic with red to gold to green aurora shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Dollish Polish | It’s Spoopy Time

Inspiration: Inspired by Vintage Halloween print

Description: It’s Spoopy Time is a vibrant pumpkin orange with aurora color-shifting shimmer and packed with black micro flakes and shreds. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

DRK Nails | Don’t Lose Ur Head (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by a Halloween decoration of dolls heads inside a jar

Description: Don’t Lose Ur Head is a green (cold) to sheer chartreuse (warm) jelly based thermal with orange to gold to green pastel flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The description says it goes green to clear, and I saw some photos did show it as clear, however from my experience it went almost clear – and it left a nice chartreuse sheerness.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Ethereal Lacquer | What’s Your Favorites Scary Movie

Inspiration: Scream

Description: What’s Your Favorites Scary Movie is a smoky plum grey base with a blazing red, copper, gold to green shifting multichrome shimmer and holographic micro flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Ginger Fizz Boutique | It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus Wax Melts

Inspiration: Inspired by “My favorite holiday to decorate for is Halloween. Yes, I have more Halloween decorations than Christmas decorations. My favorite part of my decorations is my witch hat collections. I even hang several witch hats from my porch ceiling with glowing lights at night. I just love all things orange/purple/green with all the glitter! The Sanderson Sisters really know how to dress for Halloween—they are welcome to Trick-or-treat at my house anytime!”

Description: You have your typical “fall” scents out there, but Shelly switched it up to a warm scent that’s not the pumpkin or cider we’re usually seeing – nope. She went with Hot Buttered Rum scented wax and it smells amazing. It’s warm, slightly sweet and mellow. I’ve been enjoying melting this at night and relaxing.

This wax comes in a variety of shapes and sizes: purple/green witch articles, yellow moons, and pink/black cats.

Price: $6.00 | Cap: 75 US / 25 UK

Girly Bits Cosmetics | Basic Witch (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by an image of a young witch.

Description: Basic Witch is a dark blurple (cold) to sheer, pale lavender (hot) with shifting flakes that flash shades of pink, copper, orange, purple and green, as well as glowy blurple shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Top Coat & Glitter Grabber DUO | Glisten & Glow

Inspiration: None

Description: This month Glisten & Glow brings us their Glitter Grabber and Top Coat Duo.

Glitter Grabber is a “filler” type topper. If you have a polish on with glitters/microglitters with texture to it, apply a layer of Glitter Grabber and it “fills in the gaps” so you can top coat and get a smooth finish.

I actually moved a month ago – and I destashed a lot. I found I no longer own too many textured, glittery polishes so I don’t have the best example for it. However, this one is a thirsty microglitter polish that leaves small divots in the top coat when it settles. Glitter Grabber filled in the spaces and gave a nice, smooth finish without dulling or washing out the sparkle.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 155 US / 10 UK

Glisten & Glow | Monster Mash

Inspiration: Inspired by Monster Mash (it was a graveyard smash) was inspired by the beloved Halloween hit by Bobby “Boris” Pickett in 1962. This classic song can be heard in numerous Halloween movies/tv shows and is on almost any Halloween sound track played at parties/haunted houses and home Halloween displays.

Description: Monster Mash is a vampy, deep purple polish loaded with vibrant and glowing copper shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is my type of Fall shade.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 330 US / 15 UK

Great Lakes Lacquer | The Deadlights

Inspiration: Inspired by Stephen King’s ‘IT’

Description: The Deadlights is a glowing orange jelly base filled with iridescent flake that reflects pink, purple, red, orange, and gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Heather’s Hues | Feel It In The Scare (Thermal)

WiTS Lotion by Heather’s Hues | Blueberry Pumpkin Patch

Inspiration:Inspired by Blueberry Pumpkin Patch

Description: WiTs body lotion is a fast absorbing body lotion that doesn’t leave my hands greasy. The texture is light and creamy and a little goes a long way.

This month’s scent is Blueberry Pumpkin Patch and as someone who isn’t a huge pumpkin scent lover – this is actually pretty good. The blueberry scent is a perfect balance to the warm pumpkin and I was quite shocked I liked it… and my jar is almost half gone already!

Price: $6.75 | Cap: 40 US / 5 UK

Hit The Bottle | Colliding Of The Realms (Stamping Polish)

Inspiration: Inspired by the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain

Description: Colliding of the Realms is an antique gold stamping polish with a greenish grey tinge to it. On the nail, mine looked very antique gold but had a lovely green flash to it depending on how lighting hit.

I have a lot of Hit The Bottle stamping polishes and I really loved this one. It has a metallic feel to it and stamped beautifully.

Price: $8.50 | Cap: None

Indie by Patty Lopes | The Night Before (Magnetic)

Inspiration: Inspired by Halloween pumpkins

Description: The Night Before is a medium cool toned red base with warm red magnetic pigment, gold glitter and crystal chameleon flakes that flash pink, green and violet. The magnetic effect is on the subtle side due to it being 2 tones of red, but it’s still noticeable. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 200 US / 20 UK

Inspiration: Inspired by the classic Halloween tune “Spooky Scary Skeletons” and a picture of spooky, floating pumpkins

Description: Shivering Down Your Spine is an electric blue crelly base with pink and purple color-shifting iridescent flakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

In person, the base color is a bit more mellowed out. It’s vibrant, but my lighting amped it up a bit more.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 490 US / 10 UK

Lucky 13 Lacquer | Can I Keep You? (Solar & Glow In The Dark)

Luna Wax | Gravesite Wax Melt

Inspiration: Inspired by a Scary gravesite

Description: After a bit of a hiatus – Luna Wax is BACK!

This month we have a little tub of scoopable wax “beads” in black, blue and lavender with spooky shaped wax mixed in. It’s scented in apples, toasted marshmallow and caramel with an underlying smokey quality to it. It smells delicious!

You also get a shovel scoop to use with it… like you’re digging through a little graveyard.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 75 US / 10 UK

LynBDesigns | Ghost Frequency

Inspiration: Inspired by the 19 hz infrasound that is meant to make you see “ghosts”

Description: Ghost Frequency is a black based green to purple shifting shimmer with green to copper to gold shifting ultrachrome chameleon flakes and scattered holo micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The purple shift is stronger in person. I bought a second light and … it isn’t set up like I want it to be and I just didn’t capture the shift properly.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 250 US / 20 UK

Witch’s Heart Wax Melt | LynBDesigns

Inspiration: Inspired by The Witch’s Heart cocktail

Description: Witch’s Heart Wax Melt is a blend of orange peel and peppercorn with hints of apple and mandarin, grounded in a base of vanilla and tonka bean.

On dry sniff, I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, and I don’t know why. All of the scents are ones I actually enjoy. It wasn’t bad, just not my favorite. When I melted it though? Amazing. The zing of the orange citrus and sweetness of the apple and the vanilla mellowed it out to a nice, home blend.

Price: $4.50 | Cap: 100 US / 10 UK

Matterhorn Oil | Spellbook

Inspiration:

Description: Spellbook is a fragrance blend of plum, suede, cauldron smoke, cashmere and a touch of cotton candy.

On initial sniff, I catch the plum and cashmere and a little smokey tone, then it mellows out a bit with a sweet kick of cotton candy. This is one of those scents that every time you sniff, you catch something different and I love that. It’s mysterious and an intriguing blend for sure.

Now I know Matterhorn Oil says beard and hair care on the bottle – but this is so much more than that.

Nick uses Matterhorn Oils for his beard. Jacob and I both use it for our hair. After showering, add a few drops to your palm (I do about 8-12 drops because I have long, thick hair) and rub it in my palms, then I “scrunch” my hair in my hands and distribute throughout. Jacob does the same, but since his hair is considerable shorter – he only uses about 4-6 drops. It adds a nice scent to your hair and softens it up.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! You can also use this oil on your cuticles or rough skin areas. Elbows, knees, heels – or just apply it on your skin to moisturize a bit. I also use it on my legs after shaving cause it makes em look nice. Not too much though. A little goes a long way.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: TBA

MLF Lacquer | Trick or Treat

Moonbow | Goodbye

Inspiration: mystifying Ouija board.

Description: Goodbye is a wax melt with a fragrance blend of fresh plum, warm and cozy cashmere, sultry amber, orange peels and a touch of vanilla.

This is too pretty to melt, but smells too good not to melt!

On dry sniff, I pick up the plum and cashmere and amber. When melted, the orange peel and vanilla come out a little more – but the plum and amber are the stronger notes I detect. This is pure Fall for me and it’s not typical Fall scent. More witchy fall scent.

This is a fairly thick piece, so lots of uses in 1 planchette

Each one is individually hand painted with multichrome pigment.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

MTK Design | Golden Polish Autumn (Thermal and Glow In The Dark)

Consider this a placeholder for now.

Effect Topper by Nail Hoot | Attack of the Holographic Bats

Inspiration: Inspired by bats

Description: Attack of the Holographic Bats is a clear base with silver holographic micro glitters, as well as silver holographic bats! I used 1 coat over a black creme base.

While I didn’t have to go fishing for the bat glitters, it sometimes took a dip or 2 to get one on the brush. It wasn’t difficult, but due to size, you might need a quick bottle swirl with the brush to grab one if you want a ton of bats.

Price: $10.25 | Cap: 280 US / 20 UK

Nail Hoot | Black Widow

Inspiration: Inspired by Black Widow Spider

Description: Black Widow is a black jelly base with scattered holo and small red hex glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Halloween Phone Grip | Native War Paints

Inspiration: Unknown

Description: Halloween Queen Phone grip is coated with the matching Halloween Queen polish, a mix of color shifting iridescent and orange pumpkin glitter and epoxy on a black grip.

This just tickles my Halloween lovin heart and I’ll be using it on my phone until then. I actually ordered a grey cover similar to what’s photographed so it will match the grip a little better!

The grip is removable, and you can actually restick it so I will most likely use this through Fall, then put it away and bring it out again next Fall.

Necessary Evil Polish | Another One Bites The Dust Hand Cream

Inspiration: Chocolates

Description: Chocolate Truffle Another One Bites the Dust Hand Creme Scented is scented as a rich cocoa, hot dark chocolate drizzle, sweet-butter, sugar cane, and whipped cream. It reminds me of hot chocolate and tootsie rolls.

Necessary Evil Polish | Chocolate Bar & Candy Corn Wax Melts

Inspiration: Halloween Candy

Description: Chocolate Bar & Candy Corn Wax Melts have 2 different scents going on (which you can kinda guess from the name) … The brown glittery spider webs are scented with cocoa, sugar and cream for a delicious chocolatey treat, and the small skulls are vanilla bean, sugar and whipped cream for a candy corn scent!

They smell pretty much exactly like their inspiration, and the Chocolate bar is my favorite of the 2!

Moisturizing Cuticle Cream by Penelope Luz

Inspiration: Inspired by Halloween magic potions prepared by witches.

Description: A moisturizing cream for cuticles with high hydration power, with tea tree and clove essential oil, with true medicinal effect to prevent fungus and strengthen nails.

I really like this because it’s convenient to carry around. The cream itself has a nice thickness to it, and it isn’t greasy at all. Apply a dot to the cuticle and massage in and it soaks in nicely.

Also – while it does have tea tree and clove essential oil, you can’t really tell. It has an herbally like scent – but neither of those are super strong.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 100 US / 20 UK

Each clamshell comes with a bonus Sandworm pin. (check the back of your clamshell for the pin clasp)

Okay real talk. When I got this and cold sniffed it – my first thought was “what the hell is Jenn thinking?” it smelled like fresh mulch with some cranberries and citrus juice squeezed over it. Nick’s direct quote was “It smells like weird potpourri sprinkled over a grave to cover dead person smell” (he really should just review wax full time IMO)

However, once I melted it, it was quite pleasant. It’s different – but that harsh dry hit isn’t an indication of what’s to come. When melted it mellows into an earthy, warm cranberry and citrus scent. Nick even admitted “it’s not that bad actually” when initially I was forbidden from melting it in the apartment (he compromised and let me melt it in Jacob’s bathroom)

Of the 6 people (I think?) that I know that smelled it though, almost all of us smelled something different. Some got citrus and cranberries as the prominent notes, and others got mulch as prominent notes.

Also – sandworm pin.

Polish Pickup September 2020| All Hallows Eve

So two things happened this month.

1. An orange polish was a top pick for me.

We are definitely seeing a lot of incredible Fall shades and Halloween goodies, and my home has smelled amazing all month thanks to all the wax options.

Also – notice that purple/blue isn’t totally dominating the collage? It’s such an incredible mix of colors this month!

Though I’m also very tempted by some of the clear to black thermals, along with some of the other thermal colors, as I’ve never had a thermal before and that just sounds so cool to do – especially used along with some stamping.

My #1 = Spooky by Vanessa Molina, the way the flakies glow = amazeballs, even if I’m not sure the color will work on my skin. Then Night Owl – Let your Fears Take Flight and MTK – Golden Polish Autumn are also must buys.
