Polish Pickup March 2020 | Ancient History

Press Samples for Polish Pickup
March 2020 | Ancient History
Disclosure: I am a paid employee of Polish Pickup for their Social Media. While this post isn’t sponsored, I am an employee of their shop

So this month really snuck up on me, and I’m a little behind on it. Mainly – between the February shop closing and due dates for March photos – swatchers had 2 weeks (usually there’s 3 to 4ish.) Plus, one of the weekends was my son’s 14th birthday so I took the weekend off to celebrate with him and have his birthday party and all that fun stuff. However, somehow I pulled it together, and here we are – ready to look at the Polish Pickup for March 2020 – Ancient History!

Like with all themes, Ancient History is open to the makers interpretation of it. It can be literal, it can be whimsical, it can be a play on, or the figure of speech (like how my son says I’m ancient.)

Right now, I have about 102 items I think, things are still showing up which is why the post hasn’t been completed yet. I honestly don’t know fully what I’m still waiting on. SO i’m going to get started and post what I have in my possession.

I will have a giveaway at the end of the post like usual, so make sure you stick around for that.

Once again I did do each set of photos both glossy and matte. This month I used Night Owl Lacquer’s matte top coat for all matte shots.

For all photos shown, I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, Sweet & Sour Lacquer Gloss Sauce as top coat (except for the photos showing Glisten & Glow, Cuticula, Vibrant Vinyls and Nail Hoot top coats), and Night Owl Lacquer Gone Matte Top Coat unless otherwise specified.

Since I leave for work while it’s still semi dark and I get home while it’s still semi dark – I do use artificial lighting for my photos. My current setup uses Glamcor Pro Lights and I use the Elite X model. That is a link for those wanting to look, but it’s not an affiliate link. The brand did send them for me to post on Instagram too though, so it is a press sample (which I posted about 2 months ago)

This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. There are over 100 products and 3-7 photos PER item (majority have 7 though.) If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.

The March Polish Pickup shop will be open from March 6th – March 9th, and unfortunately there are a LOT of caps this month.

Let’s get started! It’s currently 7:10 PM on Friday night and most likely this won’t be going live until sometime late Saturday.

77 Nail Lacquer | Honey, I’m Rome!

Inspiration: Honey, I’m Rome! is inspired by an artistically enhanced photo of ancient Rome’s Colosseum.

Description: Honey, I’m Rome! is a wine reddish pink jelly base with gold to orange to pink to red shifting shimmer and iridescent teal to blue microglitters mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 175

Alchemy Lacquers | Sands of Giza

Inspiration: Inspired by Pyramids at Giza

Description: Sands of Giza is a medium lavender crelly base with red to orange to yellow to green shifting shimmer and a loose linear holographic effect. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 70

All Mixed Up Lacquers | Celtic Relic (Tri-Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by photo of old Irish Castles

Description: Celtic Relic is a trithermal that transitions from a medium dark shamrock green (cold) to medium dusty green (warm) to light Spring green (hot) with scattered holo, small iridescent glitters, gold glitters and emerald glitters, as well as 2 different crystal flakes and ultrachrome chameleon flakes that flash a rainbow of color. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 120

Alter Ego Body Care Products | 5th Century Indian Nut

Inspiration: Inspired by coconut oil! The first written account of coconut oil was a Egyptian traveler back in the 5th century describing a coconut as an Indian Nut.

Description: 5th Century Indian Nut is a white crelly base with dark brown and bronze microglitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $9.00 | Cap: None

Bar Soap by Alter Ego | 5th Century Indian Nut

Inspiration: Inspired by coconut oil

Description: 5th Century Indian Nut soap is molded to be a massage bar so it can work out some kinks while you lather up. There is a light lather, and it’s naturally scented (there’s not really even a scent) so it’s fragrance free.

I did have some hardening on the edges of my bar – but on use they softened up. They weren’t discolored – but I thought I would mention it so if you receive it and the edges are hardened, it’s not a big deal.

Price: $4.00 | Cap: 33

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Standing Stones at First Light (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by a nod to the maker’s favorite TV and book series, this polish was inspired by the centuries old standing stones of Scotland, especially when frames by a magical sunrise! Outlander fans, this is for you!

Description: Standing Stones At First Light is a pale coralish pink (warm) to terracotta red (cold) thermal with holographic shimmer, grey micro flakes and a bit of small glitters in chocolate brown, tan, grey and white. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Baby Girl Lacquer | Remember the Time?!

Inspiration: Inspired by Queen Nefertiti

Description: Remember The Time?! is a creamy cappuccino brown crelly base with a mix of ultrachrome chameleon color shifting flakes. They flash orange, bronze, magenta, blue, brown and gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade pulls very warm on me, it’s actually a paler, cooler shade.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 100

Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Cucumber Mint

Inspiration: Inspired by mint and cucumbers are two great food ingredients that have been used as far back as Ancient Greece. We’ve combined the two for this inspo.

Description: I always look forward to Acetone Antidote, and this month is a cool, calming scent of Cucumber Mint! The mix of minty scents is the strongest note for me – I pick up the spearmint mostly, but there’s also some peppermint and then I get a little cucumber. The description says there’s slight hints of cyclamen and green banana, but I don’t detect those at all.

Recommended Use:
Shake the vial and add the full bottle (.5oz) to 6-8oz of acetone. You can add the vial to more or less (down to 4oz of acetone, no less due to IFRA regulations). These are just suggestions for optimal scent and protection from acetone, the ratio can vary due to personal preference.

I use a full vial in 10 oz of Zoya Remove+

Price: $4.25 | Cap: None

Baroness X | Mint Xpress Drying Spray

Inspiration: Mint has been used as a remedy for indigestion since Ancient Egyptian times. In fact, dried peppermint leaves were found in Egyptian pyramids dating back to 1000 b.c. The ancient Greeks and Romans valued it as a stomach soother.

Description: Xpress Drying Spray is a dual use item. The main use is to do your nails, then when done – hold the spray above your nails and do 1-2 sprays, then wait 2 minutes for the speed drying. However, if you do your mani quick and don’t allow each layer to dry before moving onto the next, it will still ding your polish. This product helps dry the top layer. It will not penetrate the top layer.

While speeding up your mani, the oils used within it will also moisturize your cuticles, so even when you don’t need to speed anything up, you can spritz it on your hands for some extra cuticle and skin hydration.

This is lightly scented with a peppermint essential oil and fragrance oil blend. It comes in a 15 ml bottle (same size as Acetone Antidotes) with a spray cap. The spray cap will be separate when you receive it, and it will have a normal solid cap when you get it.

Price: $4.50 | Cap: None

Lip Balm by Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Ikaros

Inspiration: Kassandra wouldn’t be the Eagle Bearer without her pet eagle so this lip balm is inspired by him

Description: Ikaros tinted lip balm is a bright coral pink tinted lip balm with subtle pink shimmer and a very light vanilla scent. I applied 2 light layers for the photo below. It does layer up quite nicely and with a heavier hand, you can probably get a much brighter coral shade.

The scent is almost undetectable, but it you get it really close to your nose and sniff, you can tell it’s there.

Price: $5.00 | Cap: None

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | The Eagle Bearer

Inspiration: Inspired by Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Description: The Eagle Bearer is a medium gold to pink pastel multichrome with 2 types of gold flakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

There is a very light texture with this shade, but 1 coat of top coat should be fine to smooth it over.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 250

Beyond the Nail | Aliens? Aliens.

Inspiration: Inspired by the famous meme starring a gentleman with big hair and an orange complexion who likes to explain the mysteries of the ancient world with the most obvious answer: Aliens.

Description: Aliens? Aliens. is a medium grey crelly base with strong copper shimmer and small copper hex glitters. This is probably my favorite polish with a matte top coat this month. I used 2 coats and a glossy topcoat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 100

Bath Bar by Bluebird Lacquer | UFO Bar

Inspiration: Inspired by Ancient aliens built the pyramids? That’s crazy!

Description: This is a UFO shaped bar made with activated charcoal, jojoba beads and organic cocoa and shea butter. It’s a scrubbie bar that has enough scrubbies to exfoliate, but it isn’t a harsh exfoliation. The bar itself starts to melt on contact with your skin and leaves you feeling super soft.

I tried it, it’s slipper to hold onto, but once you start using it, your fingers sort of melt into it for a better grip. I used it before shaving and my legs are buttery smooth now!

Price: $8.00 for a 2oz bar | Cap: None

Bluebird Lacquer | Ra Ra Sis Boom Bah!

Inspiration: Inspired by Ra the ancient Egyptian sun god. He was considered the god of kings, order and the sky. Ra has a human body with a falcons head and it he wore a serpent coiled around a solar disc along with a blue headdress.

Description: Ra Ra Sis Boom Bah! is an azure blue shimmery, metallic like holographic with blue to lavender to gold shimmer mixed in. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Main thing to note with this shade – on the first coat – float the coat on. When I brushed it on, any pressure and the brush left “bald” spots on my nail. Once I floated the polish on (basically, don’t touch the brush to the nail really – allow the brush to manipulate a drop of polish onto the nail for little to no pressure.) The second coat applied without any special care and I could apply pressure without it removing any.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

BLUSH Lacquers | In The Beginning

Inspiration: Inspired by the creation of the universe

Description: In The Beginning is a pale, silver toned lavender pink ultra linear holographic. It is more pink toned in person – but the holo flame kind of got in the way of showing the true color. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

By Dany Vianna | Pharos (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by lighthouses

Description: Pharos is a coral pinkish red (cold) to baby pink (warm) thermal with gold shimmer and matte white rectangle glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 200

By Vanessa Molina | Misteries of Egypt (thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by ancient Egypt and beauty of its mysterious nights

Description: Misteries of Egypt is a dusty brown (cold) to pinkish beige (warm) with ultrachrome chameleon flakes that shift bronze to gold to magenta to purple, as well as a subtle scattered holographic. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The pinkish beige shows deeper the more/thicker layers you apply. The first layer is sheer enough that this could double as a topper.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 200

Cadillacquer | Origins (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by the video game Assassin’s Creed Origins. The game is set in Ancient Egypt near the end of the Ptolemaic period (49–47 BCE).

Description: Origins is a burnt orangish red (cold) to dusty pumpkin orange (warm) to a pinkish beige (hot) tri thermal packed with small multicolored flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade transitions easily – and I wasn’t quick enough with photos to capture the hottest state (the pinkish beige) before it started going. My hands are pretty much ice all the time, so I apologize for not capturing that third state. Be sure to check out the listing when the site is live for photos of the third transition.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Cameo Colours Lacquers | Dank River Valley

Inspiration: Inspired by a Mesopotamian image, and “History of the Entire World, I Guess.”

Description: Dank River Valley is a taupe crelly base with a slight bronze shimmer, bronze flecks, holo sparkle, as well as lime-blue-gold and blue-violet-copper ultrachrome chameleon flakes, and small caramel, gold, and rose glitters, and silver holo micro flakes.

Whew.

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. For a smooth finish – you might need 2 coats of top coat with all the flakes and glitter involved.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Color Spectrum Polish | Mayan Beats

Inspiration: Inspired by Mayan Aztec Drummer / Maya Art Deco

Description: Mayan Beats is a sheer blue base with green shimmer, as well as pink, orange, blue, green and yellow ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 75

Colores de Carol | King Tut

Inspiration: Inspired by Tutankhamun, the Egyptian Pharaoh

Description: King Tut is a full coverage microglitter polish. It has a clear base with gold holographic micro glitter and UCC flakes that shift teal-navy-violet. I used 2 coats and 2 coats of glossy top coat for these photos.

This is super sparkly in person.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Crystal Knockout | Solstice Stones

Inspiration: Inspired by Stonehenge

Description: Solstice Stones is a dusky blue leaning purple base with red to gold aurora shimmer, holographic micro flakes, and platinum silver flakes . I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Cupcake Polish | Bath House

Inspiration: Inspired by Roman Bath Houses

Description: Bath House is a minty aqua blue crelly base with pink to orange to gold to green shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Sara – I’d like this as a plain crelly as well – please and thank you.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Cuticula | Cinque Base & Limitless Top Coat Duo

Inspiration: Cuticula was inspired by the drink from Hercules known as Herculade with her own spin on it, of course.

Description: ‘Herculade’ has top notes of mango, lime, nectarine, orange and grapefruit.  Middle notes of peach, ginger flowers, pink pepper and clove leaves with bottom notes of musk and hint of vanilla.

To my nose – if Pez had a peach flavor – it would smell like this.

As for the duo – Cinque Treatment Base Coat is new to Polish Pickup and fairly new to Cuticula. This is a formula with 5 vitamins, 5 botanicals and strengthening ingredients that work together to provide 5 benefits. This treatment is nourishing, hydrating, and revitalizing. It hardens nails and stimulates growth using vitamins A, B5, C, E, and F. The 5 botanicals in this amazing treatment are Aloe, Lemon, Ginseng, Grape, and Pomegranate.

It is a thinner formula than most base coats. It’s not watery at all, but the consistency is much thinner than the ones I’m used to.

Coupled with Cinque is Limitless Top Coat which is 5 free quick dry top coat.

Price: $16.00 | Cap: None

I used the DRK Mystic Ocean Stamping plate for these photos.

Confection Nail Fortifier by Cuticula | Herculade

Inspiration: Inspired by the drink from Hercules known as Herculade with her own spin on it of course…

Description: ‘Herculade’ has top notes of mango, lime, nectarine, orange and grapefruit.  Middle notes of peach, ginger flowers, pink pepper and clove leaves with bottom notes of musk and hint of vanilla.

Much like the base and top coat duo scent – my nose picks up a peach Pez scent, if such a thing existed (does it?)

Confection Nail Fortifier is a nail cream to keep nails strong, moisturized – and treats your cuticles to some much needed hydration. It’s a non greasy formula so it’s easy to use at work or at home.

Price: $6.50 | Cap: None

Different Dimension | Royals

Inspiration: Inspired by royalty

Description: Won’t lie, I have the song Royals stuck in my head cause of this polish. Royals is a violet purple base loaded with pink to gold aurora shimmers. It has an almost metallic like look to it. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Dollish Polish | The Mayan Sleeps Tonight

Inspiration: Inspired by Ancient Mayan Chief (Halach Uinik)

Description: The Mayan Sleeps Tonight is an emerald green to copper duochrome. There are some blue tones in it as well so at some angles it becomes almost tealish. It is darker in person than my photos show. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The formula on this was nice, but I felt I had to move quickly as it started to dry faster than normal for me, which is why some brush strokes are visible.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Dreamland Lacquer | While Rome Burns

Inspiration: Inspired by the legend of Nero fiddling while Rome burned.

Description: While Rome Burns is a prussian blue crelly base with a variety of fiery flakes mixed in that flash magenta, orange, red, gold and bronze. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 180

DRK Nails | A Ring for Roxanne (Magnetic)

Inspiration: Inspired by Roxanne and Alexander The Great’s wedding

Description: A Ring for Roxanne is an ultra multichrome red to orange magnetic mixed with pastel iridescent flakes that shift copper to green, and aurora red to gold to green pigment. Comes with a golden glittery magnetic ring. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I left index and pinky alone and only used the magnet that comes with the polish on the middle and ring nails.

Price: $13.90 | Cap: 200

TC Magic Effect for Magnetic polish | DRK Nails

Inspiration: Inspired by the magnetic attraction between Roxanne and Alexander The great

Description: Easy Magnetic Effect was created to make it easier to get a magnetic effect from a magnetic polish. Using this will save you time and help to get the result you want. No need for rushing! Just apply the magnetic polish as a regular one and let it dry. Then apply a generous coat of this TC in one nail and use the magnet over it (repeat on the other nails).

Price: $7.50 | Cap: None

Esmaltes da Kelly | Gladiators

Inspiration: Inspired by Gladiators

Description: Gladiators is a warm red jelly base with gold, black and red holographic glitters mixed in that vary from micro to medium sizes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I didn’t feel the need to use 2 coats of top coat for this, which surprised me. While it is loaded with glitter, the jelly base has the perfect consistency to float it all. I only wore this for a few hours though, so on day 2, it may “settle more” and need a refresher top coat application to smooth.

Price: $10.50 | Cap: 200

Ethereal Lacquer | Zenobia

Inspiration: Inspired by Queen Zenobia

Description: Zenobia is a dusty, medium blue crelly base packed with red to gold to green shifting shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The consistency of my bottle was thicker than normal, which I did notify Meagan of – so she’s going to look into it and adjust formula if needed. I found I needed to use thinner coats to apply or it would apply almost gummy like. Like I said though – Meagan will be making any necessary adjustments to the formula as needed.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Fair Maiden Polish | Lady Godiva

Inspiration: Inspired by Lady Godiva’s nud!ty (yes, I had to adjust that word of Google might ding me thinking I’m showing more than nails on here)

Description: Lady Godiva is a neutral beige jelly base loaded with red to green shimmers and iridescent flakes, as well as gold flakes and scattered holo. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Ginger Fizz Boutique | Depths of the Sea

Inspiration: “After falling out of favor with the deities, Atlantis was submerged into the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantis was protected by Poseidon and his descendants. Today children of all ages dream of visiting this famous city in the depths of the sea. Disney has given us movies and now we can even visit a new Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Melt these tropical wax shapes and let your imagination take you to that mystical and magical island in the sea!”

Description: Depths of the Sea is a mix of wax melts shaped in sea shells, sea turtles, fish, star fish, mermaids and crowns. They come in an assortment of colors and are Pina Colada scented! For like a week our kitchen smelled like a tropical vacation.

I used the DRK plate Mystic Ocean for the design.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: None

It is a deeper shade of blue in person.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Handmade Gift Canada | 12mm Stud Earrings

Inspiration: None

Description: These are 12 mm stud earrings and the silver posts are lead and heavy metal free (they are not sterling silver) and are painted with a lavender pearl polish that has an almost Mother of Pearl type look to it. I show them on my ear lobe as well so you can see the size – but I do have smaller lobes.

Price: $6.95 | Cap: None

Heather’s Hues | The Lycurgus Cup (Magnetic)

Inspiration: Inspired by the Lycurgus Cup, a 4th-century Roman glass cage cup. The color-changing cup is made of a dichroic glass, which shows a different color depending on whether or not light is passing through it (red when lit from behind and green when lit from the front)

Description: The Lycurgus Cup is a gold-green-red multichrome magnetic polish with iridescent flakes and glitters that shift from red to gold to green. I left the index and pinky unmagnetized and used a standard bar magnet for the middle and ring fingers. The magnetic line was more apparent in person. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for thee photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 120

WiTS Lotion by Heather’s Hues | Ginseng & Mint Leaf

Inspiration: Inspired by herbs used since ancient history, specifically ginseng, ginger, and mint.

Description: WiTs body lotion is a fast absorbing body lotion that doesn’t leave my hands greasy. The texture is light and creamy and a little goes a long way.

‘Ginseng & Mint Leaf’ is a clean and refreshing scent with top notes of bergamot and citrus, middle notes of ginger, ginseng, and clove buds, all rounded out by hints of grated nutmeg, cool mint, and verbena sprigs.

My nose picked up the clove scent the most. Overall – this is a nice, unisex scented lotion.

Price: $6.50 | Cap: 30

Hit the Bottle Polishes | Lapis of the Gods (Stamping Polish)

Inspiration: Inspired by Lapis Lazuli

Description: Lapis of the Gods is a bright cornflower blue stamping polish, with a creme finish. I used it as a normal polish on the index and pinky and stamped with it on middle and ring.

I used the DRK Mystic Ocean stamping plate for the design.

Price: $8.50 | Cap: 200

Jior Couture | Is Such A Thing Even Possible? (Magnetic and Glow in the Dark)

Inspiration: Inspired by Ancient Aliens

Description: Is Such A Thing Even Possible? is a midnight blue base with dark blue to medium blue to teal/turquoise multichrome magnetic pigment, with a blue glow in the dark effect. I found the magnetic effect to be on the subtle side for this shade, but the glow in the dark was BRIGHT. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

Kathleen & Co. | Evil Eye (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by The Evil Eye

Description: Evil Eye is a royal blue (cold) to white (hot) thermal with multi-sized sky blue holo glitters. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 200

Hand & Body Sugar Scrub by KBShimmer | Pomegranate

Inspiration: Inspired by Persephone. Greek culture has the most wonderful mythology. From Zeus to Athena, to Aphrodite and Ares, the mythology was full of more drama then today’s soaps. One of most drama filled stories in my opinion is Hades and Persephone.

Hades ruled the underworld and on a trip topside, saw Persephone and decided he had to have her. One kidnapping later, Persephone was living in the underworld, eventually falling in love with Hades. But all is not good in the world above. Persephone’s mom Demeter missed her so, and in her grief neglected her job of making things grow. Long story short, the world revolted, and forced Hades to give Persephone back, but not before he fed her four pomegranate seeds, forcing her to return for 4 months each year. And this is why we have winter.

Description: KBShimmer made another scrub that I just want to lick. It smells so delicious! This month it’s a mix of pomegranate, with a hint of musk, pineapple and guava. It basically smells like an incredible smoothie.

KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

KBShimmer | Sól What?

Inspiration: Inspired by Sól, the Norse Sun Goddess

Description: Sól What? is a soft, warm purple jelly base loaded with flakes that shift from orange to gold to green, as well as holographic micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

Leesha’s Lacquer | Heads Up

Inspiration: Inspired by Olmec Heads, colossal stone heads that date from 900 BC. They were a feature of the Olmec civilization of Ancient Mesoamerica

Description: Heads Up is a medium grey crelly with silver micro holo glitters, silver holo glitter and silver flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 120

Lemming Lacquer | Bast (Magnetic)

Inspiration: Inspired by Bast: goddess of cats, protection, pleasure and bringer of good health.

Description: Bast is a dark inky blue jelly base with bronze to copper to gold to pink magnetic multichrome flakes, sapphire and gold holographic sparks and holographic microflakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Because these are magnetic flakes instead of shimmery pigment – the line will not be a super strong line, it will appear more dispersed no matter how hard you try. The particles are larger and will have a bit of space between them, even with magnetic pull.

I left the index and pinky unmagnetized and used a standard bar magnet on the middle and ring nail.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 250

24K Gold Revitalising Oil by Moo Moo’s Signatures

It absorbs quickly and leaves a mild scent on your hands. Apply few times a day on cuticles and nails for best results.

The scent is incredibly faint, to the point that I couldn’t detect much and works really well. It’s in a bottle, so it’s opened like any polish and brushed on.

Price: $15.00 | Cap: 40

Moon Shine Mani | Be Excellent to Each Other

Inspiration: Inspired by Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

Description: Be Excellent To Each Other is a dusty periwinkle crelly with pink to purple to blue and red to gold to green chameleon flakes, aurora shimmer and holographic micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Moonflower Polish | Those Who Came Before

Inspiration: Inspired by Ancient people of the Caribbean Islands.

Description: Those Who Came Before is a blue-grey creme with blue to green to purple color shifting aurora shimmer and iridescent blue micro flakes. It dries down to a matte finish naturally, so I left it as is for the first sets of photos – then added top coat for the final 2. It’s a bit more grey in person than my photos show.

This can be a regular polish or a stamping polish. I show it both ways.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 70

MTK Design | Embers of Vesuvius (Thermal and Glow In The Dark)

Inspiration: Inspired by the historical event of Oct 24th 79AD when the sleepy little beachfront resort towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum were tortured by a vindictive god in the form of a violent volcano eruption. Wax Sampler by Pretty Beautiful Unlimited | Ambrosia

Inspiration: Inspired by A picture of ancient Roman ruins

Description: Pretty Beautiful Unlimited has another 15 piece wax sampler for us this month, and as much as I loved last months – this might be my favorite of the 2. Most of the scents in this sampler are great for Winter transitioning into Spring – and they are great home scents for when company is coming over. My favorite so far is Sandalwood Vanilla – but here is a scent description list to browse:

  • Amber & Lavender – Sophisticated French Lavender and exotic amber with notes of tonka bean and myrrh and a base of soft musk.
  • Black Currant Vanilla & Amber – Red raspberries, cranberries and black currants blended with fresh lavender, vanilla and patchouli are softened by golden amber, rich sandalwood and light musk.
  • Cabernet Crush – The full-bodied aroma of crushed berries and fruit, champagne grapes, cabernet sauvignon mingle with rich vanilla and soft spun sugar.
  • Frankincense & Myrrh – Top notes of lilac and pine, middle notes of heliotrope, jasmine and musk and rounded out with frankincense, myrrh, patchouli and vanilla.
  • Basil – Refreshing aroma of fresh cut leaves of basil.
  • Glowing Amber – Citrus and amber enveloped by earthy moss and violet and finished off with vanilla musk and Indonesian patchouli.
  • Lilac – The aroma of a freshly blooming lilac bush.
  • Muscadine – Fresh grapes, blackberries, and woodsy base notes.
  • Rosewood & Musk – Fresh cut rosewood balanced with nuances of cassis, Otto rose, green olive, cassia bark, rich cedar, black amber, soft sandalwood, and sheer musk.
  • Sage Leaf – Reminiscent of fresh herbal sage leaves.
  • Sandalwood Rose – Earthy wood and lush rose petal notes blended with complimentary green tones on a base of soft musk.
  • Sandalwood Vanilla – The beautiful combination of luscious, rich vanilla, a woody bouquet of cedar and sandalwood with rose and jasmine.
  • Sweet Vanilla Patchouli – Vanilla, earthy patchouli and green grass intertwined with fresh lavender and hints of licorice with crisp notes of menthol softened by amber.
  • Tuscan Wine – Top notes of black grapes, strawberry, and red wine; followed by middle notes of white flowers and sweet cinnamon; and sits on dry wood notes.
  • Wisteria – Notes of Wisteria, Rose, Violet and Ylang with undertones of precious woods and tender musk.

Starlight and Sparkles | Clio, Muse of History

Inspiration: Inspired by the Muses were the nine daughters of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Mnemosyne, a Titan and the goddess of memory. They were goddesses of knowledge and the arts, each having a particular domain. Clio is considered “the proclaimer, glorifier and celebrator of history, great deeds and accomplishments” – perfect for Ancient History month!

Description: Clio, Muse of History is an ivory-tinted, slightly off-white crelly base with blue, gold, and white opaque and iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Dinosaur Charm and Page Marker Set | Starlight and Sparkles

Inspiration: Inspired by Dinosaurs! Technically prehistoric, but they are ancient wonders and a source of incredible insight into the distant past.

Description: First off – I goofed on these photos. Issa sent the set of 3 celestial ones since they didn’t make it in January’s set – and I didn’t realize they weren’t “extras” to go with this. I was 7 hours into typing this post when she mentioned it and I simply don’t have time to redo photos right now. Just keep in mind – this is ONLY for the dino ones.

There are six page markers and one charm in this set. The page markers are, from left to right: a Brachiosaurus and a Brontosaurus/an Apatosaurus* in the top row, an Allosaurus and a Parasaurolophus in the middle row, and a Stegosaurus and a Triceratops in the bottom row. The charm is a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton hanging from a stainless steel lobster clasp. Both the charm and page markers are decorated with glass beads that glow green in the dark.

Price: $13.00 for Dinos Only | Cap: 36

STELLA CHROMA | As Confused As Nigel

Inspiration: Inspired by Stonehenge from Spinal Tap

“In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history…” And down drops an 18″ prop piece of Stonehenge. But our big haired, heavy metal boys don’t realize it for quite a while. Until it was in danger of “being crushed by dwarves.”

Description: Confused As Nigel is an emerald green jelly base with black holo shards and gold holo glitters, as well as red shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Dries down with texture – so use 2 coats of top coat to smooth.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

Emulsified Sugar Scrub by STELLA CHROMA | Gingered Peach

Inspiration: Inspired by Ginger and peaches. Both ginger and peaches originated in ancient East Asia, and they smell AMAZING together. So why not combine them with our rich sugar scrub?

Description: Stella Chroma’s Emulsified Sugar Scrub is an incredibly fine particle sugar that’s densely packed in. Dig a little out of the jar, massage into your hands then rinse and keep rubbing it in while rinsing. Your hands will feel smooth, soft and incredible.

The March scent is Gingered Peaches and when I smell it, I get the peaches, but they are mellowed out with the spiciness of ginger. You can definitely smell both – but I smell the peach just a touch more.

I used to not like the scent of ginger, but while pregnant I have about 9 months of morning sickness, and ginger helped – and I grew to love it. And I’m not kidding about the sickness. It started at 3 weeks which is how I knew I was pregnant, and Jacob was 3 weeks overdue (and he’s still always late) so it was 9 months of toilet hugging.

Price: $6.00 | Cap: None

The Crafty Taco | Moon Over Babylon Pendant Necklace

The Soapy Chef | That’s Ancient History Green Tea Body Butter

Inspiration: Inspired by the history of green tea for thousands of years in Asian Cultures

Description: That’s Ancient History Green Tea Body Butter is a light and fluffy whipped body butter. It is made with fresh green tea leaves and aloe vera gel.

The scent is a light, herbally green tea. Very refreshing type scent. Plus the body butter made my hands feel like silk and didn’t leave a greasy feeling behind (a little goes a long way, so you don’t have to use much)

I’m grabbing a backup of this.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 65

QDTC by Top Shelf Lacquer | If the Glass Fits

Inspiration: We have taken inspiration from the bubonic plague pandemic from the Late Middle Ages (1340-1400). It ravished England, killing a third of the population, sparking violence and crime. Also taking its toll on Mongolia with a huge outbreak in 1330.

Description: Pestilence is a black jelly base with lightly scattered holo, as well as blue to purple to pink to aqua to green shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 400

Body Butter by Vapid | Pestilence

Inspiration: Inspired by the bubonic plague Dr.s of the 13-1400’s Europe, and their leather bird masks.

Description: Vapid Body Butter is light and silky and nicely fragranced. This month’s scent is Pestilence and it’s described as sweet tobacco, creamy vanilla and tonka bean, with lavender. It’s an interesting scent, and to be honest – it took me a bit to warm up to it because it’s not a scent I would typically reach for.

In the jar I mainly smell sweet tobacco and lavender. When I use it though, more of the vanilla pops out which brings the tobacco and lavender scent together nicely.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

Vibrant Vinyls | QDTC & Base Coat Duo

Inspiration: Inspired by old book stores

Description: Vibrant Vinyls will have 2 listings this month. One listing will be this base coat and top coat DUO while the other will be JUST the top coat. So you can buy both or just the top coat.

If you love the smell of books – this ones for you!

One for the Books smells like older books that have been sitting in a library for years, sharing their knowledge. My nose picks up the scent of leather and musk, but you might also pick up Italian bergamot, cashmere, patchouli, vetiver, and cedar wood. This is a comforting smell to us book nerds.

The duo consists of Double Bond base coat as well as Fast & Hard Quick dry top coat – but you can also buy the top coat separately.

For the stamping image – I used Maniology x PolishedJess MO57 Plate

Duo: $15.00 | Cap: 100 US

Top Coat Only: $8.00 | Cap: 150 US / 50 UK

Polish Pickup March 2020 | Ancient History

So when I first started receiving polishes for March, out of the first 7 I got, 5 were light minty/ light green shades and I thought it was going to be a popular creation for the month. As time went on – more and more variety started rolling in. While I do see it as a heavy blue and green month again – I’m glad the color varied more.

I know a couple more things should be arriving – but I can’t remember which they were. When they get here, I’ll add them in.

I already have 26 in for April, so I can get a jump start on those soon.

Where To Buy: Polish Pickup Shop

Shop Dates: March 6th at 11am EST through March 9th at 11:59pm EST

The Polish Pickup Shop is open for previews tomorrow, so you can start loading up your wishlists then! A few items still need to be added, but I think the majority of polishes and items I have will be on the site and ready when it opens.
