piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013: Year Of The Blogger

by Lisa Heath

I am so excited to show you today’s post!  I’ve been holding my tongue for over a month, but I was given the opportunity to participate in piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013!

This year the theme is Year Of The Blogger!

I was sent 3 piCture pOlish shades that I have never used before.  The shades provided to me were Majesty, Camo and Aphrodisiac!

piCture pOlish Shades Provided for Blog Fest 2013!

I needed to create nail art using these 3 shades, and I am quite pleased with my results.  I attempted “Hairspray Spotted Nails” but mine looked more like splatter nail art rather than spotted nails.  One thing I love about this method is that it’s unpredictable how it will turn out.  I usually stick to art like Dotticures and such that are easier to control outcome wise.

Here are my results (make sure you read on to see how I recreated this look!)

This was my first time ever attempting the hairspray spotted nails look.  This was actually my “test run” and I loved it so much, I decided it would be my final submission for Blog Fest 2013!  I removed the design on my ring finger to do a step by step on how I did this look.

How did I get this look?  Read on!

First – here is what I needed:

20130727-202842.jpg

I used a disposable plastic cup, a bottle of room temp water, a pump bottle of hairspray (doesn’t work well with aerosol) and my 3 piCture pOlish shades!

I also used a toothpick, Precision Tips Q-Tips and Remover for cleanup.

20130727-202800.jpg

First I did 3 coats of Majesty as my base shade.  Once the 3 coats were done, I added a top coat (this basically makes it so that if I make any mistakes in the next step, I can wipe it away fairly easily without having to redo the base color).

20130727-204828.jpg

Next I filled the plastic cup about half way with my room temperature bottled water.  Then I opened up Camo and added 3 drops of Camo to the water.  The drops should spread out fairly easily (if you are familiar with water marbling, same concept!)

20130727-202725.jpg

After 2-3 drops of polish – grab your hairspray and add a spritz or 2!  You need to do this step semi quickly or the polish will set and it won’t work at all.

20130727-202738.jpg

I found a splatter looking spot I liked and dipped my nail down into the water.  Using a toothpick, swirl it around your finger in the cup to pick up excess polish in the water (otherwise it may come up and attach to your nail in a clump).

Result of the Camo nail dunking!  After I took my nail out of the cup, I did use Precision Tips Q-Tips and remover to clean up polish that was on my finger.  This is my preferred method of cleanup, but others are wrapping around your nail with tape, applying vaseline for easy wipe up cleaning, or even spreading Elmer’s Glue on around the nail and allowing to dry, then simply peeling it off when done.

Now, we’re pretty much going to rinse and repeat those steps, but using Aphrodisiac.  You will need to empty your cup and refill it with fresh water.  If you don’t, your polish may not spread much, or at all.

Here is Aphrodisiac after dripping it into a new cup of water and spraying it with 2 pumps of hairspray.  Find a spot you like and dunk your nail in again, remember to use a toothpick to pick up excess polish around your nail before lifting your nail out.

Nail after Aphrodisiac!

Then top coat your design!  As I said, mine turned out more like splatter nails instead of “spotted” nails, but I like them as is!

Northern Ireland beauty spas have become tremendously popular of late for several major reasons, the beauty and health aspect, plus the wonderful relaxing settings that many of N.Ireland top spa’s enjoy.
