Philly Loves Lacquer Holo-day On Broad Collection Swatches and Review

by Lisa Heath

I had the opportunity to review the Philly Loves Lacquer Holo-Day on Broad Collection, and it’s a wonderful collection to start with!  Philly Loves Lacquer is a new to me indie brand and I’m thrilled to be reviewing for her!

Holo-Day On Broad is an 8 piece collection with 3 glitter top coats, 4 holographic cremes and a crelly glitter shade. Almost all of these shades have a little story behind their inspiration, so I have included a small snippet below each photo to give a little insight.  Take a look at the collection!

River Rink

River Rink

River Rink was inspired by The Blue Cross River Rink, which celebrates 20 years as Philadelphia’s only outdoor Olympic-sized public ice rink.   Located at Penn’s Landing, this is a waterfront winter tradition.  A family-friendly holiday activity, the RiverRink features breathtaking views overlooking the Delaware River and Benjamin Franklin Bridge.

River Rink is a light sky blue holographic.  I used 2 coats for this photo.

Christmas Village

Christmas Village

Christmas Village is inspired by the Christmas Village in Philadelphia – which is modeled after the traditional German Christmas Markets. The most famous of which, is the Christkindlmarket in Nuremberg, Germany.

Christmas Village is a raspberry jelly holographic.  I used 3 coats for this photo.

Festivus For The Rest Of Us

Festivus for the Rest of Us

Festivus, a well-celebrated parody, has become a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 which serves as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas and holiday season.

Festivus For The Rest Of Us is a lavender holographic.  I used 3 coats for this photo.

Fancy Brigade

Fancy Brigade

It all started in 1959 when, after taking First Prize in a special mention category, a Brigade led by their now legendary Hall of Fame Captain Bill Isaacs was accepted into the Fancy Brigade Division of the Mummers Parade. The name chosen for this new Brigade was “Downtowners”. The Brigade’s first 3 years of competition failed to produce a top 10 showing. Although not achieving success in the early years, an attitude and character was forming which would be the foundation of one of the most innovative and successful Brigades on Broad Street.

Fancy Brigade is a deep teal holographic.  I used 2 coats for this photo.

Chag Urim Sameach!

Chag Urim Sameach

Chag Urim Sameach! means Happy Festival of Lights!

Chag Urim Sameach! is one of my favorites of the collection!  This is a crelly white base with a mix of blue, white and silver shred, square and hex glitters.  I used 3 coats for this photo.

Snow On Broad Street

Snow on Broadway

Snow on Broad Street is a gorgeous top coat!  This is a mix of iridescent flakes, iridescent glitter and white snowflakes in a clear base.  I used 1 coat of Snow on Broad Street over River Rink.  I did have to fish around a little for the white snowflake glitters, but the over all look made it worth it!

Meet Me At The Eagle

Meet Me At The Eagle

In 1910, Wanamaker replaced his Grand Depot in stages, and constructed a new, purpose-built structure on the same site in Center City Philadelphia. The new store, built in the Florentine style with granite walls by Chicago architect Daniel H. Burnham, had 12 floors (9 for retail), numerous galleries and two lower levels totaling nearly two million square feet. The palatial emporium featured the Wanamaker Organ, the former St. Louis World’s Fair pipe organ, at the time one of the world’s largest organs. The organ was installed in the store’s marble-clad central atrium known as the Grand Court. Another item from the St. Louis Fair in the Grand Court is the large bronze eagle, which quickly became the symbol of the store and a favorite meeting place for shoppers. All one had to say was “Meet You at The Eagle” and everyone knew where to go. The store was dedicated by President William Howard Taft on December 30, 1911.

Meet Me At The Eagle is a pretty glitter top coat with various shades of red and green glitters in a clear base.  I used 1 coat over Christmas Village.

Star Barn

Star Barn

When The Star Barn was built in 1872, landowners dreamed of a bright future for agriculture. The period following the Civil War marked the beginning of a great era of restoration throughout our country. The stars stood for hope and good fortune for the farm and land. It truly was a new beginning.

Star Barn is a gold glitter top coat with various sized gold hex and circle glitters, gold holographic stars and white matte stars in a clear base.  I used 1 coat over Fancy Brigade.

For a better view – here are all 3 glitter top coats over a simple black creme polish:

all 3 glitters

From left to right: Meet Me At The Eagle, Star Barn and Snow On Broad Street.

Aside from “fishing” for snowflake glitters in Snow On Broad Street, all of these shades applied effortlessly.  Even with fishing for glitters though – it was completely worth the effort!

My Top Picks:  Snow On Broad Street, Festivus For The Rest Of Us, Fancy Brigade and Chag Urim Sameach!

Prices:

Full Size Collection: $85
