Mentality Nail Polish The 420 Holos Collection Swatches and Review

by Lisa Heath

***Added 7/23/15 – please read this announcement ***

If you have purchased from Mentality from April 2015 – June 2015 and you are experiencing sensitivity, itchiness or burning, please contact Mentality directly to have your polishes replaced. Their email is [email protected]

I personally did NOT experience any reactions when using these polishes, but many did. Please know I would have been fully transparent had I known the damage that was being caused. Again, please read the announcement above and by clicking on it, you will be taken to Mentality’s initial statement regarding the issue.

Mentality Nail Polish released a collection a few months ago named The 420 Holos.  The names of each of the 4 polishes within The 420 Holos symbolizes the facets of the transition now being seen in the marijuana legalization movement.   Mentality describes the set as a set of dark, smokey colors accented with lush green accents and psychedelic holographic effect.  Luckily I was off work today so I had a chance to pop outside and snap a photo in the sun to get a sparkle of holo shimmer for each swatch!

Educate is a dark burnt red holographic nail polish with green accent flecks.  I used 2 coats for this photo, but honestly – this whole collection is darn close to being a 1 coat deal.  Can’t see the “burnt red” I speak of?  Check it out in the sun!

Here you can see the red.  It definitely has a brown to burnt red duochrome effect in the sunlight!  The holographic in it is scattered rather than linear.  My favorite of the collection!

Legislate is a deep honey brown holographic nail polish with green accent flecks.  Indoors it looks much more golden brown, but it takes on a whole new look in the sunlight!  I used 2 coats for this photo.

There’s that gorgeous deep honey brown!  Love this!

Medicate is a deep green holographic nail polish with green accent flecks.  Another beautiful shade.  I only needed 2 coats for this one as well!

I’m going to be wearing this one again in the Fall!  In fact, I think this whole set is just perfect for the Fall season.

Regulate is a dark midnight blue holographic nail polish with green accent flecks.  I really liked the color of this one!  Such a dark, gorgeous shade!  Indoors I really was thinking “this looks more green than blue…” but in the sunlight the midnight blue base really came through!

Gorgeous! The holo really stands out with this base!

Overall I really liked the color makeup of this collection!  It’s definitely perfect for Fall but is wearable all year round.  Application was good with all 4 colors and was almost completely opaque in just 1 coat.  I used 2 for all of the photos shown!

Each polish from The 420 Holos Collection costs $7.00

You can purchase the entire set of polishes for $20.00

Mentality Nail Polishes are 3 Free and each bottle has 2 stainless steel mixing balls.

I have a ton more Mentality Nail Polish collections to show you in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out!

Interesting collection. I love a collection with a meaning behind it. The Sunny pictures are beautiful.

Lisa July 5, 2013 - 5:19 pm

It is interesting, and they actually asked me if I would be comfortable swatching them. I love that they don’t just push out samples to people who may not be receptive to them!

These are very nice! I know Mentality is infamous for its collections, but the polishes sure look pretty.

Lisa July 5, 2013 - 6:34 pm

Are you sure it’s Mentality? They have some fabulous collections, but I don’t know that they would have any that they would be “infamous” for.

Christina July 6, 2013 - 4:03 pm

Yes, the had a serial killers collection that was looked down upon by many in the nail polish groups I’m a member of. I know a lot of people now refuse to buy Mentality polishes.

Lisa July 6, 2013 - 4:04 pm

You are mistaken. That was NOT Mentality.

Christina July 6, 2013 - 4:08 pm

I apologize for the mistake — very similar to another indie brand!

What an original inspiration behind a line. I like every one of these! Great colors for fall, but I’d wear them year-round.

I thought it was original as well! The husband/wife team behind this line is amazing with their creations!
