Mentality Nail Polish Ruffian and Matte Holo Top Coat Swatches and Review

by Lisa Heath

***Added 7/23/15 – please read this announcement ***

If you have purchased from Mentality from April 2015 – June 2015 and you are experiencing sensitivity, itchiness or burning, please contact Mentality directly to have your polishes replaced. Their email is [email protected]

I personally did NOT experience any reactions when using these polishes, but many did. Please know I would have been fully transparent had I known the damage that was being caused. Again, please read the announcement above and by clicking on it, you will be taken to Mentality’s initial statement regarding the issue.

I have an interesting review for you tonight!  I absolutely love matte polishes as well as holographic polishes, but have you ever tried to combined the two?  I have and it never really works out well.  Holographic polishes lose their holo even with some glossy top coats and they are completely gone with a matte top coat!

Mentality has released a Matte Holo top coat so you can turn virtually any polish into a matte holographic polish!  Pretty cool!

I received a TON of Mentality to swatch, so you will see some small reviews on 1 or 2 polishes as well as some larger collection reviews as time allows!

Tonight I will be showing you Ruffian and Matte Holo!

Ruffian:

Ruffian is a beautiful cobalt blue matte polish.  It reached almost full opacity in 1 coat, but I did 2 to be on the safe side.  Dry time was pretty fast on this one, which is typical of matte polish. I realize I got polish on my skin, which I didn’t see until I cropped the photos.  I’m sick, so that’s going to be my excuse on this one.

Then I added Matte Holo to Ruffian!

As you can see it does add the silvery sheen to the color, and the holo is there in matte form.  I used 1 coat of Matte Holo over Ruffian.  I actually like it!  I can have the best of both worlds now!  As far as I know, there isn’t another matte holo out there, is there?  As I said earlier, Matte Holo Top Coat can be used over ANY polish to give it a matte holo effect.

Shot with Flash (sorry it’s night time so no sun photos!):

Pretty right?!

Ruffian is part of the Matte Collection from Mentality and retails for $6.00

Matte Holo is part of the Top Coat Collection and retails for $7.00

Application on both polishes were exactly as you would expect from matte polishes.  Fast dry time and smooth application!  The couple behind Mentality continues to amaze me with each collection they come out with.  Keep an eye out too because you will be seeing A LOT of Mentality on the blog in the coming weeks!  From holo’s, to flakies, to glitters to suedes!

Mentality Nail Polishes are 3 Free and each bottle has 2 stainless steel mixing balls.

That was my reaction! I’ve matted top coats before and err.. it doesn’t work. I can’t wait to get a sun picture tomorrow!
