This has been quite a month. We’re still sorting the boxes and having stuff delivered – but we’re in the new house and just waiting for weather to pick up so we can jump in our new pool. There is also a BBQ area that was built – so Nick bought a new beast of a smoker and we’ve been enjoying his cooking. We put a brisket on at 3am, so … waiting on that to be ready. There were a few unexpected kinks that came up during the move that needed an electrician, another needed a plumber – but those are now sorted and the delay was minimal. We’re moved in though and doing pretty well. My work gave me 2 days off that I requested for the moving weekend, Nick’s parents in Connecticut came up to help (his step dad did some minor repairs and installed a new mailbox for me) and things are stressful right now – but doing well.

Anyways, today we’re looking at PR I received for the Polish Pickup April 2021 shop with a theme of The Nineties!

So there are 105 items in the post so far. I think 1 or 2 more are on the way still – but I’m not 100% sure. I already have 22 for next months shop too… so makers were on it this month.

I was born in the 80’s, but my junior high and high school years were in the 90s. I graduated class of 2000. So a lot of this stuff is major nostalgia for me.

First things first – I’ve said this before but I’m repeating it. My nails aren’t “mine” for this entire post. I had a bad break in January before starting on PPU swatching, and I broke out the Kiara Sky Gelly Tips kit in Short Coffin. I did do a full post on those, so click the wording if you want to see. So yes, my nails look different because they are for now. I also am really enjoying the tips so I don’t know how long they will be on, but they are clear and don’t alter anything – so … I’m enjoying it!

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base and I swapped between Vibrant Vinyls Fast & Hard, Glisten & Glow Top Coat and Baroness X Hydromancy Top Coat, all of which were sent as PR for this monthly shop. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues.

Due to the move, I did not use matte top coat this round. I actually ran out except for one bottle that was 3/4 full and I left unscrewed one night on accident – and some dried and left white bits in it so it was unusable. I placed an order after the move (I didn’t want it to go in USPS limbo with forwarding) and I should have it for the next PPU post.

I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I get the most done at night, so I swatch a lot at night. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

For my Glow in the Dark photos, I use a UV Black Light (affiliate link) found on Amazon.

This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.

The April shop will be open from April 2nd – April 5th and wishlisting will be open today (probably before this post is live)

Let’s take a look!

1422 Designs | Affirmation

Inspiration: Inspired by the song Affirmation, by Savage Garden

Description: Affirmation is a dark blue jelly base with pink holo glitter, purple holo glitter, silver holo shreds, and blue flecks. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Depending on how glitters lay, there may be a slight texture, but I only needed 1 coat of top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 100

A Bead Apart Jewelry | Happily Ever After Charm & Dangle Wrap Bracelet

Inspiration: Inspired by Ever After: A Cinderella Story

Description: Happily Ever After Charm & Dangle Wrap Bracelet has a dangle cluster with all semi precious stones and Swarovski crystals, and a silver etched heart charm. The bangle part consists of 4 slender silver tubes to allow for some “give” so it’s not too tight and is easy to slip on and off. There are no clasps, it just wraps and fits most wrist sizes.

Price: $15.00 | Cap: 40

Alchemy Lacquers | Nevermind

Inspiration: Inspiration was drawn from Nirvana’s second album cover, Nevermind, which was released in 1991.

Description: Nevermind is a medium periwinkle crelly base with purple metallic flakes, green to turquoise to blue shifting flakes, and green to turquoise to blue shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Toe Bean Mani/Pedi Fizzies | All Mixed Up Lacquers

Inspiration: Inspired by Lisa Frank Stickers

Description: Mani/Pedi Fizzies are similar to bath bombs, but smaller and with more oils and goodies to help your hands and feet.

Toe Bean Fizzies are mani/pedi fizzies that have a bubble gum like smell to my nose, but an underlying note of vanilla. I don’t have the official description – so I don’t know the actual scent, but that’s what it smells like to me. To use, just fill a bowl with warm water, drop a fizzy in and then soak your hands or feet for 10-15 minutes.

Price: $5.50 | Cap: 40

All Mixed Up Lacquers | My Fly Sticker Collection

Inspiration: Inspired by Lisa Frank stickers that we all obsessed over

Description: My Fly Sticker Collection is a light fuchsia pink jelly base loaded with shifty pigment ranging green, gold, pink depending on the light, and a light dusting of shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade was sheer on first coat – but stick with it. It does build to or near opacity.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 150

7 Cherries Rose Up Foaming Bath Crumbs | Alter Ego Body Care Products

Inspiration: Inspired by Cherry 7Up

Description: 7 Cherries Rose Up Foaming Bath Crumbs are foaming loose bath crumbles (think crushed bath bomb foamy so you control the amount without having to do any of the smashing) in a fizzy light citrus effervescent soda scent and colored a rose pink. This stuff foams up beautifully and smells so fresh. It comes in the baggie as shown, just open – pour in desired amount, close up the bag and save for later!

Price: $7.00 | Cap: 30

Alter Ego Body Care Products | 7 Cherries Rose Up

Inspiration: Inspired by Cherry 7Up

Description: 7 Cherries Rose Up is a semi sheer cherry red jelly base with a subtle pinkish red shimmer laced throughout. I did used 3 thin coats for these photos and a glossy top coat – but you might need 4 if you have a strong VNL. This shade would also be beautiful for leadlighting in stamping designs.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | My Prinze Jr.

Inspiration: Inspired by the makers first celebrity crush and all around 90’s heartthrob, Freddie Prinze Jr! More specifically the DVD cover from his 1999 film She’s All That.

Siren’s Cure Cuticle Creme | Anchor & Heart Lacquer

Inspiration: Inspired by Nostalgic 90’s fragrances from places like Bath & Body Works, The Body Shop, and Claire’s.

Description: Siren’s Cure is a luxurious cuticle crème – formulated specifically to promote cuticle healing and nail growth. It contains 75% organic ingredients such as aloe leaf juice, coconut oil, neem seed oil, jojoba oil, and white willow bark extract! It also features super ingredients MSM and DMAE, known for their anti-inflammatory, skin healing, and toning properties!

Scent Descriptions:
Wild Watermelon Sorbet – juicy, ripe watermelon, honeydew, kiwi, & strawberries, with a subtle base of tropical flowers, white musk & vanilla sugar.

Razz Lemonade – a refreshing, zesty blend of muddled raspberries with lemon, sugar, and vanilla.

That’s So 90’s – pink orchid & pear nectar blended with sensual sandalwood & soft amber.

Each jar is 1/4 oz. These work beautifully for cuticles and the Wild Watermelon Sorbet is my favorite! This is an excellent way to try out the Siren’s Cure in a selection of scents though.

Price: $8.50 | Cap: 150 sets

Atomic Polish | Polly Pocket

Inspiration: Inspired by Polly Pocket!

AURORA 5-Free Nail Lacquer | Shrine of the Silver Monkey

Inspiration: Inspired by Shrine of the Silver Monkey from Legends of the Hidden Temple

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 200

Baby Girl Lacquer | Cool Like Dat! (Solar)

Inspiration: Inspired by a song titled “Cool Like Dat” By ’90s Jazz Rap Group Digable Planets.

Description: Cool Like Dat! is a light almost cornflower blue indoors and dusty purple in UV light with an assorment of flakes and some blue shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I used a UV Blacklight flashlight to shift the polish into the solar state, but sunlight will work as well.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 100

Baroness X | 90’s Blues (Fluid Art)

Inspiration: Inspired by the blue op art/water/fluid swirl prints that made their way around mid to late 90s fashion.

Description: 90’s Blues is a blue metallic pigment fluid art polish with sterling silver flakies. This polish can also be used as a regular polish. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat on index and pinky, and I used it as a fluid art polish on middle and ring finger, along with Zoya Evelyn (PR sample) and Glisten & Glow Sailing and Sight Seeing (PR Sample)

First I needed to make a decal. I recommend a silicon mat to do this, I personally use this one (affiliate link) but you can find them cheaper – I just like the size and having 4 to use.

The method that works best for me is to drop the polishes on top of each other a couple drips at a time (similar to water marbling without the water) so I did 3 drops of Evelyn, 3 drops of Sailing and Sight Seeing, 3 drops of 90’s blues, rinse and repeat until I had a nice little blob piled on itself in the center of the mat. Then I picked the mat up and just carefully moved it around to get the blob to warp and stretch and flatten out.

Once I saw the desired cells and spread of the polish, I set it aside for about 15 hours to dry (can take less, I went just waited 15) and then I cut out the desired size, painted my nails with a sticky base and applied the cut out decals. Then I manipulates and sealed them in with a cotton swab dipped in polish remover. I used an orange stick to help cut off any extra I didn’t need.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

Top Coat by Baroness X | Hydromancy Top Coat

Inspiration: Inspired by the blue op art/water/fluid swirl prints that made their way around mid to late 90s fashion.

Description: Hydromancy is a gel-like top coat without the cure lamp! This top coat gives your mani a super glossy, wet looking reflection, has a slightly thicker formula so it works well with nail art and glitters, comparable to Seche Vite without the shrinkage and it dries down relatively quick (my mani was dry and ready to move around after about 4 minutes, but fully dry and ready to do dishes in 8 minutes)

I used this over the below stamping and it didn’t smear (I did not use the floating method) the index finger weirdness was actually a stamping snafu and not the top coat. This was my first time using Hydromancy and I quite enjoyed it.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Don’t Go To Sleep

Inspiration: Inspired by The Goosebumps novel!

Description: Don’t Go To Sleep is a deep indigo polish with an antique gold shimmer that shifts to vibrant green and blue. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Black Dahlia Lacquer | Happy Little Trees

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

Base Coat by Black Dahlia Lacquer | Peel Off

Inspiration: I was inspired by glue. Specifically, peeling glue off the palms off of hands.

Description: This isn’t the latex type peel off for short term (swatching usually) manis. This is a clear peel off base coat perfect for glittery creations so you don’t have to scrub to remove with acetone. Peel Off Base is like UNT but a thicker consistency, so those who are like me don’t need to use 2 coats so it peels off nicely. Once on, this looks like a normal clear base coat, then top it with the polishes of your choice and peel off when ready. I did test it on my Cindy hand – and it lasted 5 days before wearing down a bit, and 8 days before a nail coating popped off and vanished during my move.

This can take a few minutes to dry, so be ready for that. Because it’s clear, it’s harder to tell when fully dry – so I applied, waited about 3-4 minutes and then touched a corner gently to see if it was still tacky or not. I found all 5 nails on one hand were fully dry to apply polish in about 5.5 minutes.

When ready to remove your mani, use an orange stick and gently push up around the cuticles and then peel or just continue to push up with the orange stick.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: None

Bluebird Lacquer | The Rum Shaker

Inspiration: Inspired by Rum Raisin the quintessential brown-ish lipstick worn by everybody in the 90’s.

Description: Of course this polish was inspired by an insanely popular lipstick from the 90s – but the name is also a play on Rump Shaker – which was insanely popular when I was in the 5th grade.

The Rum Shaker is a mauve tinged reddish brown linear holographic – and it’s a lot more holo in person than my photos show. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Bonus – this polish stamps! I used this shade to stamp in the Baroness X Hydromancy photo set.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

Repair Oil | By Vanessa Molina

Inspiration: Sailor Moon

Description: Repair Oil is a nail and cuticle oil that absorbs easily to moisturize your cuticles and By Vanessa Molina says it helps to strengthen your nails. It does moisturize the cuticles, but for full disclosure – I am wearing false nails, plus I haven’t had the oil long enough to say whether it strengthen my nails as well.

I do find this to be a lighter oil, so it does absorb quicker without being super oily feeling. Scent wise, it has a light, powdery floral scent.

Price: $10.50 | Cap: 300

By Vanessa Molina | Moon Prism Power, Make Up!

Inspiration: Inspired by the colors of the Sailor Moon transition image

Lip Balm by Color Spectrum Polish | Don’t Lay A Finger!

Inspiration: Inspired by Butterfinger BB’s candy

Description: I’ve been looking forward to these lip balms every month! Color Spectrum Polish brings us Don’t Lay A Finger lip balm, and it is a nice, moisturizing lip balm that is scented but not flavored. This month’s scent is a rich, creamy peanut butter flavor mixed with a dash of smooth chocolate and cocoa beans.

It smells EXACTLY like a Butterfinger (before they went and changed the formula.. just throwing that in cause I haven’t bought one since they went and did that)

The lip balm is lightly tinted a brownish shade, but on my lips it doesn’t alter anything and no color deposits.

Price: $5.00 | Cap: 40

Base Coat by Colores de Carol | Power Pow Nail Strengthener

Inspiration: None mentioned

Description: Power Pow is a nail strengthener that creates an almost invisible, strong, protective shield over the nail. Contains vitamins B5 and C which nourish, hydrate and protect the nails. Biotin helps stimulate the formation of the nails’ keratin.

Full disclosure again – I have false nails on and I haven’t had this product long enough to test out the nail strengthening. I do like that it has a pale, sheer, milky “wash” of color that’s a good base for some stamping.

This is an unscented nail strengthener

Price: $8.75 | Cap: 50

Crystal Knockout | Crushes & Cassette Tapes

Inspiration: Inspired by cassette tapes

Description: When I explained cassette tapes to my son, and went over how you had to rewind and fast forward… and sometimes the player would “eat” the tape… he flat out said “Wow, I’m glad I wasn’t alive back then”

‘Raspberry Sugar’ Juicy, candy fruity top notes with long lasting sugary sweet bottom notes. A scrumptious sweet-as-candy blend of sugared raspberries, hints of plum and tiny little hint of floral.

This acetone additive is in a plastic bottle that you squeeze to dispense. Shake before using, add the desired amount and give the acetone a shake then use.

Polish Pickup April 2021 | The Nineties

Whew! Now this is a line up of beautiful creations and a load of nostalgia. I just had my 39th birthday so … this kind of thing brings me back to my childhood. When my bones didn’t crack when I moved and before I got aches in joints I didn’t know I had. The tv shows, the music, the movies… it all takes me back.

This was a super busy month, so I was slightly more surprised and I feel a lot better completing this collage. Especially since I had to set up lighting in a rush and hope I had it right.

There are a lot of more neutral tones this month but there are also a lot of blue tones. The glow in the dark shades will be fun as the warmer months come. You can wear them on your toes for a fun glow when the sandals come out. There are more GITD shades this month than usual, so it was a nice surprise!
