Press Samples for Polish Pickup
April 2020 | Aquatic Wonder

Disclosure: I am a paid employee of Polish Pickup for their Social Media. While this post isn’t sponsored, I am an employee of their shop

It’s been a very busy month – but now I have the Polish Pickup April 2020 Aquatic Wonder post ready to share!

Easily my largest Polish Pickup post to date. I have 117 items to share, plus I still have 3-5 on the way. I know 2-3 for sure, and 2 others seem to be lost in USPS limbo, so I don’t know if those will make it or not. As usual, there is a giveaway at the end of the post – so be sure to enter that.

This month has been a doozy. We’ve been on lockdown for 2 weeks now, my job is considered essential (CPA office) so I do still leave to go to work, but Nick and Jacob have been hunkered down at home. Thank goodness for gaming systems so Jacob is still socializing and playing with friends. Nick is working from home, so he’s able to keep busy as well. I added homeschool teacher to my bag of tricks, which took a couple days to work into the schedule – but we’re pretty much all set up now.

I turned 38 last weekend. We had a nice, quiet evening at home. Nick made me an incredible dinner and dessert, and really it’s how I would have wanted to spend it – lockdown or not.

Once again I did do each set of photos both glossy and matte. I purchased 2 fresh bottles from Night Owl Lacquer and she was kind enough to send 2 refill bottles along with my 2 purchased bottles – so thank you again Lindsay!

For all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, Sweet & Sour Lacquer Gloss Sauce as top coat (except for the photos showing Glisten & Glow, Cuticula, and Vibrant Vinyls), and Night Owl Lacquer Gone Matte Top Coat unless otherwise specified.

Since I leave for work while it’s still semi dark and I get home while it’s still semi dark – I do use artificial lighting for my photos. My current setup uses Glamcor Pro Lights and I use the Elite X model. That is a link for those wanting to look, but it’s not an affiliate link. The brand did send them for me to post on Instagram too though, so it is a press sample (which I posted about 3 months ago)

This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. There are almost 120 products and 3-7 photos PER item (majority have 7 though.) If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.

The April Polish Pickup shop will be open from April 3rd-April 6th.

Let’s get started! It’s currently 12:23pm on Saturday, and I’m hoping to finish this tonight – but I don’t think it will complete until tomorrow (when wishlisting opens up!)

77 Nail Lacquer | Aliens?!

Inspiration: Inspired by the alien like jellyfish found in the Mariana Trench. Using a remotely operated vehicle, marine scientists dove to the deepest part of the world’s oceans, called the Mariana Trench, east of the Mariana Islands near Guam in the western Pacific Ocean; they were exploring the so-called Enigma Seamount (named for the lack of information scientists have on it) when they came upon this surreal-looking creature

Description: Aliens?! is an indigo jelly base that shifts red to green to blue to purple with blue to purple to red shifting large particle pigment and gold micro glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 145 US / 5 UK

Alchemy Lacquers | Halophile (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by pink salt lakes

Description: Halophile is a slightly orchid leaning hot pink (cold) to pale pink (warm) thermal with pink to red tp orange to gold to green shifting flakes and hot pink flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

It’s a bit brighter in person.

Price: $11.50 | Cap 75 US / 5 UK

All Mixed Up Lacquers | Hidden Treasure Mini Fizzies

Inspiration: Inspired by a photo of coral and colorful fish

Description: Hidden Treasure is a set of 2 hand painted mani/pedi bombs that look like geodes. They are almost too pretty to use!

Mani/Pedi bombs are similar to bath bombs, but smaller. They are packed with nourishing oils to soothe and soften dry skin. To use, drop one mani/pedi bomb into a dish or pedi bath of warm water, then soak hands or feet for about 10 minutes.

The scent is “On The Beach” and to me it smells like salty sea air and a touch of floral. I want to say soft jasmine like scent. It’s a really relaxing scent.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: 30

All Mixed Up Lacquers | Underwater Treasures (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by a photo of coral and colorful fish

Description: Underwater Treasures is a dusty plum (cold) to dusty rose pink (warm) thermal with scattered holo packed with different types of flakes including iridescent and ultrachrome chameleon. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Lotion Stick by Alter Ego | Hit The Spot

Inspiration: Inspired by “I wanted a lotion stick that is ez to carry for immediate dry spot relief “

Description: Hit The Spot lotion stick is a slim, twist up plastic tube with balmy lotion inside. It is really good to travel with, as it is slim and easily fits in a pocket if needed. The lids also have a hole through them, so you can attach to a lanyard or chain and carry it on a keychain or around your neck as well.

Hit The Spot will be sold in a set of 3. One is unscented and you can smell the natural ingredients, and to me it smells like cocoa from the cocoa butter. The other 2 are scented – Pufferfish Pout and Twin Waterspouts. Both scented are very lightly scented, and the cocoa scent of the cocoa butter comes through stronger for me personally. I can smell something – but the cocoa skews it just enough that I can’t tell exactly what the scent is. Twin Waterspouts has a sort of salty sea type underlying scent and Pufferfish Pout seems to have a light floral. Again though – the cocoa is the stronger scent.

These are perfect for touch up spots that need some added moisture – as well as cuticles. While the name is Lotion Stick – it does have more of a cuticle balm like texture.

Price: $7.00 for a set of 3 | Cap: 30 Sets

Alter Ego | I Huff & I Puff

Inspiration: Inspired by a fun photo of a colorful yellow, fuschia & white pufferfish a fan group member posted in my fan group

Description: I Huff & I Puff is a sunflower yellow crelly base with fuchsia, white and silver micro glitters mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. It does have a very light texture when it dries down, but 1 coat of top coat was all it took to smooth it over.

Price: $9.50 | Cap: None

AURORA | Ocean Circus

Inspiration: Inspired by Cirque du Soleil  ‘O’

Description: Ocean Circus is a clear base loaded with scattered holo, teal to purple shifting microflakes and rainbow flecks. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. You can use this in just 1 coat as a topper as well. The particles within the clear base are super small, so there isn’t much texture – so 1 coat of top coat should smooth it out just fine.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 100 US / 10 UK

Baby Girl Lacquer | Wonder Woman!

Inspiration: Inspired by a Wonder Woman Underwater scene.

Description: Wonder Woman! is a turquoise blue jelly base with ultrachrome chameleon flakes that flash fuchsia, copper, gold and green, as well as blue to purple, silver shimmer and a tiny bit of scattered holo mixed in. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The more coats you add, the deeper the shade.

Price: $11.50 | Cap 100 US / 10 UK

Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Atlantis

Inspiration: Inspired by Atlantis

Description: Atlantis Acetone Additive is an interesting but sort of addicting scent. It’s a base of peach, with coconut and salty sea air. Like a tropical drink being enjoyed sea side. The peach is definitely the prominent scent, but the coconut lingers and you almost catch it after you inhale – then there’s the salty sea air type scent after that mellows it all out. It’s pretty incredible.

Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin.

Shake the vial and add the full bottle (.5oz) to 6-8oz of acetone. You can add the vial to more or less (down to 4oz of acetone, no less due to IFRA regulations). These are just suggestions for optimal scent and protection from acetone, the ratio can vary due to personal preference.

I use a full vial in 10 oz of Zoya Remove+

You will either receive this in a clear glass bottle as I’m showing, or it will be a cobalt blue glass bottle.

Price: $4.25 | Cap: None

Baroness X | Atlantis Beach – Fluid Art Polish Duo

Inspiration: Inspired by water washing up on the beach of Atlantis.

Description:
Atlantis – a vibrant blue fluid art base with turquoise shimmer and teal metallic microflakies
Sand Ahoy! – a light neutral, white beach sand fluid art base with holo microflakies and clear white microflakies

These polishes create the spotted effect as seen in fluid art nail polish designs. You can use them together with some white and seafoam green shades to create a water washing up on the beach effect. Of course they can be used separately to create any color combo you want. You just need one fluid art polish for cells to form. You will get more cells and colors if you use 2 fluid art polishes with other standard polishes.

This is a placeholder right now. The decals are drying after I messed up the first set. Don’t use ziplock bags. That’s what I took from this mess up. I will add the full mani photos in when they are done.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Subject Delta (Magnetic)

Inspiration: It’s no secret that I love the Bioshock games so when I saw the theme, I knew I wanted to make a polish for the first Big Daddy you get to explore the ocean floor with.

Description: Subject Delta is a blackened navy with copper to yellow to green magnetic pigment and gold to green ghost flakes (largest particle UP).  I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I left 2 nails unmagnetized and the other 2 I used a magnet with.

Price: $14.00 | Cap None

Lip Balm by Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Party Like it’s 1959

Inspiration: Inspired by the epic New Year’s Eve party in Rapture from the Bioshock games

Description: Party Like It’s 1959 is an unscented lip balm tinted a pale pinky beige with gold shimmer. I used 3 coats on my lips in the photo and only 1 swipe on the arm swatch. This builds up nicely and is a beautiful neutral shade.

Price: $5.00 | Cap: None

Beyond the Nail | Starfish Sunset

Inspiration: Inspired by a starfish laying on the beach at sunset

Description: Starfish Sunset is a deep cerulean blue crelly base with violet to gold shimmer, hot magenta pink glitter, and white matte star glitter. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I did have to fish a little for the star glitters, but it wasn’t too bad. A couple came up on their own, the others I tilted the bottle and swirled the brush around to grab.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 150 US / 15 UK

Black Dahlia Lacquer | Island of Atlas

Inspiration: Inspired by Underwater city of Atlantis

Description: Island of Atlantis is a deep teal green crelly base loaded with blue to green aurora shimmer, holographic micro flakes, champagne to green metallic flakes and green to blue to magenta to red to gold multichrome and iridescent shifting flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

BLUSH Lacquers | The Black Pearl

Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

By Dany Vianna | Tortoiseshell

Inspiration:Inspired by Tortoiseshell pattern

Description: Tortoiseshell is a yellow tinged brown jelly base with black and brown small glitters, as well as gold metallic flakes. My main photo (directly below) is more color accurate. For some reason this pulls really reddish brown on me, but in person it is more yellowish brown. Almost like you paint your nails with a brown, then paint over with a yellow sheer tinted polish. It’s an interesting shade. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 200 US / 10 UK

By Vanessa Molina | Wonder Seabed

Inspiration: Inspired by the deep sea, where shoal of fish move almost like a ballet.

Description: Wonder Seabed is a medium blue jelly base with iridescent blue to gold to green falkes, pink to green aurora shimmer and scattered holo. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Cadillacquer | Shape Of Water

Inspiration: Inspired by the movie The Shape of Water

Description: Shape Of Water is a deep teal jelly base with color shifting flakes that show blue to green to gold, and small red metallic glitters. It is more teal in person – my photos pull more blue. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.50 | Cap: None

Cameo Colours Lacquers | Coronate Medusa

Inspiration: Inspired by the Atolla Jellyfish (also known as Atolla wyvillei and coronate medusa).

Description: Coronate Medusa is a bright orange leaning red crelly base with scattered holo, red to gold shimmer, orange to gold crystal chameleon flakes, red to gold to green shifting flakes, and silver holo microflakes. There’s a lot of elements in here, but they aren’t overpowering – so there’s a nice, delicate balance. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

Chirality | Factory Reset Restorative Nail Treatment

Inspiration: Inspired by Oceans

Description: This is my second bottle of Factory Reset, as I have tested it before. Factory Reset is a Restorative Nail Treatment that is made to restore your nails back to their healthiest “factory settings.” Can be used as a base coat as well ( and quite well I might add) however, my nails don’t peel and are quite strong (I can take someones eye out clipping my nails) so I cannot speak on that.

However, I did used this on my “Cinderella” hand as it says to: Apply one coat to nails every day for six days. Remove Factory Reset on the seventh day. For the next two weeks, apply one coat twice a week and remove at the end of each week. Use as needed afterwards.

When using as directed, my nails actually lightened. While I don’t have severely stained nails, they of course have a light “tinge” to them and that went away. They did look whiter and brighter.

As a base coat – you can also layer it up to 3 thin layers and have a nice, neutral, pale pinkish beige shade on your nails that look juicy. I enjoy this look. Shown in the photo is just 1 coat, and my nails have a nice, natural “glow” to them.

This is a scented product, and the scent is a blend of rain water and red apples. It’s light and refreshing.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

Chirality | LOST

Inspiration: Inspired by Bermuda Triangle

Description: LOST is an oceanic teal blue crelly base with purple shimmer, silver micro glitter, and green to purple metallic flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Color Spectrum Polish | Coral Me Crazy

Inspiration: Inspired by beautiful coral reef with colorful fish

Description: Coral Me Crazy is a peachy coral jelly base loaded with gold shimmer, blue irirdescent glitters, as well as blue, green and purple mosaic glass glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I did have to fish a little for the mosaic glass glitters.

Mosaic Glass Glitters are extremely thin glitters, so they don’t have much texture and are almost see-thru. I really like the look of them.

Price: $10.00 | Cap 75 US / 5 UK

Lip Balm by Color Spectrum Polish | Coral Me Crazy

Inspiration: Inspired by Beautiful coral reef with colorful fish

Description: Coral Me Crazy lip balm is a sheer, light peachy coral with gold shimmer and sparks that smells of lemon verbena, honeysuckle and vanilla.

The color on my lips is almost undetectable, almost a “my lips but better” look where it boosts my natural lip color. The shimmer is incredible fine and doesn’t accentuate fine lines on your lips. It’s a really nice every day type balm to wear. The scent is incredibly refreshing and the lemon verbena is the strongest note for me.

I thought I took a pic wearing it, but apparently I didn’t – so I will add that in tomorrow or Monday.

Price: $4.00 | Cap: 25

Colores de Carol | Blue Lips, Don’t Care!

Inspiration: Inspired by Blue Lips Fish

Mic Drop Base Coat is a 5 Free base that is a ridge filler and sticky bond base coat combined. Limitless Top Coat is a 5 Free quick dry top coat that dries fast and can be used with nail art if you float the top coat on.

‘Lava You’ is a blend of tropical fruits with sugared oranges, lemons and limes with hints of exotic tropical florals and mountain greens.

When I first smelled this – orange tic tacs came to mind scent wise and it’s the power scent to my nose. I can detect a bit of the lemon lime – but … Yum. Orange tic tacs.

Inspiration: Inspired by a flamingo pool float on the ocean

Description: Flamingo Ringo is a light turquoise blue crelly base filled with fine aurora shimmer that shifts from a peachy-pink to gold to sea green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is more turquoise in person – my camera doesn’t like teals and turquoise – and I did try color correcting but it didn’t go well. So I’m telling you – it’s more greenish leaning in person. Please check the listing for more accurate base color.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 180 US / 20 UK

Sugar Scrub by Dreamland Lacquer | Ready to Flamingle

Inspiration: Inspired by a flamingo pool float on the ocean

Description: Ready To Flamingle Sugar Scrub is a candy box of 5 sugar scrub squares scented in my favorite frou frou drink ever – Strawberry Daiquiri!

They’re made with sugar to exfoliate, and a special mix of mango butter, cocoa butter, and some oils to moisturize. They also contains emulsifiers so they get soapy when you use them and rinse clean.

So there are 2 ways to use these. You can use a full square in the showed all over your body (which I did try and loved it) or you can cut a square into 4 equal parts (I did 4) and use a smaller cube and use it on your hands.

The packaging is super cute and makes it a nice gift. The gift might be to yourself – but still a pretty nice gift.

Inspiration: Inspired by the jaw dropping rainbow of colorful coral reefs.

Description: Reef Dancers is a clear base with small and micro glitters in blue, pink, red, lime green, silver and purple with silver holographic dolphin glitters. Ginger Fizz Boutique | We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

Inspiration: “Dun dun… dun dun…. dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnn! I remember my first scary movie at the movie theater—Jaws! It was the first time I saw my dad get nervous watching a movie. The theme song from Jaws will forever be etched into my memory. I grew up spending my summers at the beach with my family. We loved to collect sharks teeth while walking in the soft sparkly sand or wading in the waves, but I learned to always keep a careful look out for those fins!”

Description: We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat is a wax brittle is a light blue spattered with red and holographic sharks. Each bag of wax brittle also contains it own gray shark fin. This wax brittle is scented in a juicy watermelon scent.

Top Coat & Matte Top Coat Duo by Glisten & Glow

Inspiration: None

Description: This month you can get both a top coat and matte top coat in one shot from Glisten & Glow!

Both are unscented, so it’s usable to even those with scent sensitivities. The glossy top coat gives a beautiful crystal clear, shiny appearance and it’s super fast drying. It can be used with nail art and it glows under black light. The matte top coat gives a velvet like finish and dries within about 10 minutes.

I usually use the glossy top coat first, then matte over the glossy to speed up all dry times.

This month’s scent is Ocean Breeze which is a mix of seaspray, green cactus, warm driftwood, and a slight hint of berries and citrus. I mainly smell the seaspray scent – which is a favorite of mine in general. It’s unisex so Nick can use it too if he wishes to.

Peel Off Base by Hit the Bottle Polishes

Inspiration: None

Description: Peel Off Base is a water based peel off base coat. Great for glitters and other difficult to remove polishes. Can also be used under gel polish. This is like UNT but thicker in formula so you only need 1 coat (I generally need 2 coats of UNT) and I’ve had this last up to 9 days I believe. It’s a long term peel off base in comparison to the latex bases I use.

For a lot of my stamping manicures – this is the base I have under it. If I use the Latex peel off, the cuticle barrier can lift normal latex peel offs if they touch at all – so I rather not risk it.

Apply to clean, dry. oil free nails. For best results don’t cap the tip with the basecoat, but do with your desired polish that you apply over it.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 100

Hand & Body Sugar Scrub by KBShimmer | Wild Orchid

Inspiration: Inspired by Orchids

Description: This month’s KBShimmer Sugar Scrub scent is Wild Orchids (cause apparently she didn’t think people would buy a fish scented scrub) and this might be one of my favorite floral scrubs. The scent isn’t super strong – so it doesn’t assault your nostrils or smell like ‘old lady’ – it’s actually light and has a delicate sweet amber scent mixed in to give it a little musk.

KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

Skyline Soapworks | Sea Stars Nail Dip Powder

Inspiration: Inspired by Green sea creatures with a backdrop of blue ocean.

Description: This is my first time ever doing nail dip powder, so for full disclosure – I did use UNT under the nail dip base so that I could basically pop the dip off when I was done rather than the proper removal of soaking in acetone.

This is for the powder only. I do have a 3 piece nail dip liquids set I bought on Amazon before, which is what I used with this powder. For the first time though – it was a lot easier than I thought. No “curing” with a lamp and nothing was overly difficult for me.

For all steps I used, I went by this Youtube Video, and I do suggest you take a look as she’s very helpful – especially for beginners like me.

Sea Stars looks like a greyed out blue with small green to blue shifting glitters, but when everything is done, it’s a medium -dark teal with the shifting glitters within.

Effect Topper by Starlight and Sparkles | Myths, Magic, and Wonders

Inspiration: This polish is because we live in a world full of wonders and extraordinary things. Sometimes myths and facts coincide. Sometimes legends are true. Sometimes fantasy overlaps with reality. Our world is full of incredible, extraordinary things, things that take your breath away and leave their echo in your heart. Things that make the world feel tinged with just a little bit of unreality – that seem just a bit too wondrous to be real.

And even if your feet are firmly planted in reality, and none of that rings true, we still live in a world where sea unicorns are real. And that’s pretty awesome.

Description: Myths, Magic, and Wonders is a clear based topper loaded with blue to green and teal to violet color shifting UP Sister shimmers and scattered holo and microflake holo. I used 1 coat over a black creme for these photos.

Price: $15.00 | Cap: 225 US / 25 UK

Scents of lemon, green leaves, orange, lime, lavender, jasmine, rosemary, lily of the valley, vetiver, amber, musk, tobacco, and cedar

This scent reminds me of a cologne boys used to wear when I was in high school. I cannot for the life of me think of the name (I asked Nick, but he was like 6-10 years old when I was in high school… so he has no clue) but it smells really good.

I was in high school from 1996-2000 – so if you were about then, you’d definitely know this scent

Vibrant Vinyls | Mermaid Farts QDTC & BC DUO

Inspiration: Inspired by Mermaid Farts

Description: Vibrant Vinyls will have 2 listings this month. One listing will be this base coat and top coat DUO while the other will be JUST the top coat. So you can buy both or just the top coat.

Vibrant Vinyls is bringing you a new, ppu exclusive, aquatic scent… Mermaid Farts. Ocean mist, sea salt, and feminine florals combine to form a fun new aquatic scent, Mermaid Farts. This fragrance begins with top notes of ocean mist, sea moss, sea salt, and dewy cyclamen petals; followed by middle notes of geranium flower, water mint, and coriander.

My nose primarily picks up geranium flower, sea salt and I think sea moss. I detect a third scent over others – and I’m not 100% sure what it is. It’s a nice, light, floral and ocean scent though.

Double Bond:
This revolutionary 2 in 1 base coat is formulated with proteins to fill imperfections and ridges on the surface of the nail leaving you with a smooth even base ready for polish. Vibrant Vinyls added sticky bond base coat to the ridge filler to grab onto your polish and keep it there.

Fast & Hard can be used over wet polish and provides a glossy shine. Plus it plays well with stamping if you “float” the top coat over the design.

Price: $15.00 for the set or $8.00 for the Top Coat alone (will be separate listings) | Cap: 150 US / 50 UK Duo Sets & 150 US / 50 UK Single Top Coats

What Addiction? | Un-Belize-Able

Inspiration: Inspired by The Great Blue Hole

Description: Un-Belize-Able is a sheer teal jelly base with color shifting pigment, micro holo flakes, micro green holo glitter, aqua-green chameleon flakes and metallic blue flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Some of the blue flakes were almost bent (not curled) so they stuck up a little (maybe 3 did it?) so I used a cuticle pusher to push it back down, or tweezers to just pick it off. It wasn’t a huge deal and easy to remove, but I wanted to mention it.

Polish Pickup April 2020 | Aquatic Wonder

I’m usually like “wow” every month when I complete a post like this, but right now – I’m floored. It was a rough month out in the real world – and working full time during tax season with extended hours, homeschooling, dealing with the shelter in place… being able to sit here and have something like Polish Pickup to work on and focus on really helped me out. Was I panicking as 40 products arrive this week alone? Yes I was. But it took focus off all the other stuff happening in the world – so… it wasn’t so bad.

Vapid.’s Coconut Octopus is a very intriguing polish.
