I have a brand new skincare device to share with you today: The Michael Todd Beauty Total Refresher! I had the opportunity to try this out and share it with my readers before it launches on July 24th.

What is the Total Refresher? This is a complete skin rejuvenation system to help improve your skin’s texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and uneven skin tone. It’s perfect for skin that needs to be refreshed. There are 3 steps in 1 device for this: Microdermabrasion, black head & milia removal, and then soothing your skin.

Step 1 Smooths, Step 2 Removes and Step 3 Soothes.

This device is not ideal for sensitive skin. I don’t have super sensitive skin, but it was red for a couple hours after use. Otherwise, it is ideal for other skin types, I just wanted to point out that those with sensitive skin should either not use, or use with caution.

The Michael Todd Total Refresher Includes:

  • 1 Rechargeable Device Handle
  • 1 Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion Head
  • 3 Varying Sized Suction Heads
  • 1 USB Charging Cord
  • 2 Year Limited Warranty

Above are the 4 different head types. They are pretty self explanatory, there is a Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion head and then 3 different suction heads for different skin problems to extract blackheads and whiteheads from your skin.

The different heads are incredibly easy to swap out on the device itself.

The Michael Todd Total Refresher is fairly lightweight and cordless while in use. There is an easy to use USB charger to keep it charged up and ready, so you are free to move around while in use.

Ready to talk about how to use it? I was a little intimidated at first because I’ve actually never used a device for microdermabrasion or pore extraction – but once I got the hang of it, it was quite easy!

Before you do anything, you want to prep your skin! Cleanse your face using a product that helps dissolve excess oil like the Michael Todd Charcoal Detox Cleanser.

Make sure your skin is fully dry and then move onto Step 1

Step 1. DIAMOND TIP MICRODERMABRASIAN – SMOOTH

For the first step, attach the Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion head. Start with the lowest setting and glide the head of the device across your skin (avoiding the eye area.) This will help smooth the area and gently buff away rough skin texture, uneven skin tones, and fine lines. This also helps to remove excess dead skin cells that form a “cap” over pores, so it will help with removal in step 2.

Step 2. SUCTION EXTRACTION– REMOVE

Step 2 cleans out your pores and detoxifies your skin. There are 3 heads for this step: Large Pore Extractor to unclog pores, Small Pore Extractor to use for more localized, detailed extraction (like blackheads or little whiteheads) and then an Oval Pore Extractor for fine line areas.

This step helps prep your skin to be able to receive revitalizing oxygen, micronized toning mist (which is step 3) and treatment serums. It also helps you pores appear more refined.

Step 3. MICRONIZED TONING- SOOTHE

The final step  soothes your skin. You use your favorite toner in the device by popping off the back piece and using the provided funnel and squeeze bottle to fill the reservoir within the device. The Total Refresher micronizes the toner to infuse it into your pores to boost your toner’s effectiveness.

If you are looking for a new toner (or don’t use one and want to start) then the Michael Todd Blue Green Algae Balancing Toner is a good one to try out.

This is the toner reservoir on the back of your device. Just pop off the back piece, lift the stopper, insert the funnel and use the squeeze bottle to fill the reservoir with the toner of your choice.

Michael Todd Beauty Total Refresher Overview

I was really thrilled to have the opportunity to try this out, especially because my pores have always been a problem for me. It’s recommended to only use once a week, and I’ve done it at night because as I said earlier, my skin remained red for about 2 hours after using it.

For me personally, Step 1 was the one I was most nervous about, and I won’t say that I didn’t feel anything, I did. But it didn’t hurt. I could definitely feel it going across my skin though because the diamond tip is created to resurface, so there is a texture to it. Just be gentle and don’t push too hard.

My skin was SO smooth after though. I was just thinking “WOW” and couldn’t stop touching my face (which I shouldn’t be doing..) but I couldn’t help it.  My skin felt smoother, looked healthier and actually felt refreshed, so the name of the device is completely fitting.

The Michael Todd Total Refresher launches on the Michael Todd Beauty and Soft Surroundings websites on July 24th and will retail for $129.00. You can preorder ahead of time though if you don’t want to wait!

  1. Wow this thing sounds AMAZING! I’m so jealous of people that can use this because I have super sensitive skin unfortunately. I’m passing this on to one of my sisters though because she doesn’t and she’s been looking for new at-home things to help her skin have a better texture!

I’ve never used one before but I’m thinking I should definitely look in to this one!

  3. I think the extraction would make me most nervous, though I think I could really benefit from it. When I hit my 30s, my skin lost it’s mind and I have more blackheads than I ever did as a teenager. Ugh!

  4. Lisa, how well did the ‘extraction’ feature of this device work? Was it really able to remove blackheads, etc.? Does the ‘microdermabrasion’ feature require refills or replacement heads as it wears down? Thanks! :)

  5. I really want to try this product it sounds awesome! I am going to look for one and give it a whirl.

  6. I’m glad you talked about how step 1 wasn’t too bad because as soon as I read it, I wasn’t sure it was for me. But it sounds like it wasn’t too bad. I’ll have to keep this prodct in mind!

  7. I’ve never used one before but it looks like a great tool. I may have to invest in one. Thanks for sharing your review.

  8. The mechanics of this looks like that of a Hydra Facial! I’m always looking for solutions to enlarge pores, but not sure if this will help! Hope to be able to review this too!
