Polish Pickup | Mythology

It’s officially been 1 year since my debut as Blogger of the Month for the Polish Pickup – and in the year since, I’ve had the opportunity of working with so many incredible makers and have consistently had the privilege of showing 35+ Polish Pickup shades each month.

It’s been an incredible year, and with the beginning of 2019 – I can only hope to continue that. Today I have the January 2019 Polish Pickup Mythology to share!

I have 47 products to share today and I do believe this is everything. As far as I am aware, nothing is in transit as the final 3 arrived last night.

Fair warning, this will be photo heavy. 47 polishes, about 4-6 photos per polish. If you are here to look at a specific shade (and you’re on desktop) go ahead and hit CTRL + F and search the brand name to go to the specific shade. Otherwise, settle in for a photo heavy post.

Inspiration: Poseidon’s Trident from Pirates of the Caribbean

Description: Break Every Curse At Sea is a deep turquoise scattered holographic with a blue to green shift, as well as blue to turquoise to gold shifting flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This formula is on the slightly thicker side, but still easy to work with. It spread nicely and didn’t pool in the cuticles at all.

My photos show this a little oranger than it really is. It’s slightly more toned down in person.

Inspiration: Huginn and Muginn from Norse Mythology

Description: Grímnismál is a smokey amethyst crelly base loaded with red to green shimmer. This looks different in every lighting scenario which makes it really interesting. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This one also has that smokey look to it overall and a few shades this month have it, and I’m so hypnotized by it!

Description: Mnemosyne is an olive green to amber to spruce green multichrome loaded with aurora shimmers, holographic glitters and iridescent color shifting flakes in shades of pink to gold to green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. You may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish as it is slightly textured.

Great Lakes Lacquer | Fox Fire (Tri-Thermal)

Inspiration: Kitsune

Description: Fox Fire is a tri-thermal shade that goes from a smokey blackened navy when cold, to smokey pink when warm to pale periwinkle when hot, and it’s loaded with blue to purple to orange to green shifting aurora shimmer, as well as orange to gold to green iridescent shifting flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

With the base and shimmers – it comes across more blurple in the cold state. It’s also freezing here and I couldn’t capture the periwinkle state in full. My hands are ice cold and no matter what I tried I couldn’t hold it long enough for photos.

Inspiration: Iris, Goddess of Rainbows

Description: Through Iris Eyes is a topper that looks good over virtually any polish. It’s a very sheer pink leaning purple tinted base loaded with original red to green unicorn pee pigment, as well as red to gold to green to yellow iridescent flakes and a sprinkling of scattered holographic. I used 1 coat over a navy blue creme (OPI March In Uniform) for these photos.

While the base is tinted, it’s so sheer that you can easily use it over any color.

Description: Gaia is a vibrant blue jelly base packed with holographic glitters, color shifting unicorn flakes that flash pink, purple, green and blue. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. There is a light texture with this shade, so you may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish.

Description: Wonder is a slightly smokey teal creme with blue shimmer and gold sheer flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The formula is a touch on the thicker side, but still easy to work with.

Inspiration: American Gods – Carousel from House On The Rock

Description: Those Who Were Neither is a soft, milky red jelly base filled with chrome and iridescent flakes in various color shifts as well as holographic silver flakes, red to green aurora pigment and scattered holographic pigment. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The reddish pink tones and gold tones are the most prominent and this is actually an incredibly intriguing color with all the shifts and elements in play.

Inspiration: Cthulhu

Description: Fear Of The Unknown is a tri-thermal polish with green stages! It goes from a neon lime green when hot to grass green when warm to a dark forest green when cold. It is packed with pink to gold to green color shifting flakes and peridot to roseshifting shimmer, and blue to purple iridescent micro hex glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade has a slightly thicker consistency, but easy to work with.

Description: Throw Caution To The Wind is similar to last months finish, but a new color twist! This is a periwinkle multichrome that shifts from pink to purple to blue to teal and it’s a softer multichrome. It also has linear holo and magenta to blue to teal to gold ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Moonflower Polish | Atabey (Stamps)

Inspiration: Taino Goddess of Fresh Waters and Earth

Description: Moonflower Polish has another stamping polish that also works as a standalone shade. Atabey is a dusty teal creme base with purple to blue to green aurora shimmer mixed in. On 2 nails I used it alone in 2 coats, then I stamped over a black creme and a white creme.

My Indie Polish | Jackalope (Thermal)

Inspiration: Jackalope

Description: Jackalope is a thermal that shifts from a deep burgundy when cold to a soft taupey maroon. It’s packed with red shimmer and color shifting chrome micro flakes that shift fuchsia to orange to red. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The thermal shift is more on the subtle side with this shade, but it’s still obvious it has shifted.

Inspiration: Pisces Constellation

Description: Pisces is a cool toned purple that shifts to deep blue, loaded with iridescent glitters, scattered holographic and silver star glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I had no issues picking up stars, however, to avoid buildup – I did the first coat without stars (wiped them off the brush if I picked any up) then I applied stars to the second and third coat. I used a glossy top coat to smooth everything, but you may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish, depending on your application style.

Description: All Dressed Up & Yeti To Go! is a cool toned purple when warm to blue at room temp to icy blue when hot and is loaded with aqua shimmer, blue to purple ultra chrome chameleon flakes, aqua opal flakes and scattered holographic. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

My hands are ice cold this time of year – and I couldn’t get the medium temp color to stick for photos. It’s a medium toned blue.

There is a mild texture due to the flake and glitter content, so you may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish.

Pretty Jelly | Orpheus & Eurydice (Tri-Thermal)

Inspiration: Orpheus & Eurydice

Description: Orpheus & Eurydice is a tri-thermal that goes from dusty rose when warm to dusty navy blue when at room temp and black when cold. It has copper shimmer, pink to green aurora shimmer, holo flakes, pink to green ultrachrome chameleon flakes and green to purple ultrachrome chameleon flakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Slight texture due to flakes, so 2 coats of top coat may be needed. On me, the black looks more of a deep grey, but it could be that my nails weren’t cold enough to move it to black.

Inspiration: The hippocampus or hippocamp, also hippokampoi, often called a sea-horse in English, is a mythological creature shared by Phoenician, Etruscan, and Greek mythology, though its name has a Greek origin. The hippocampus has typically been depicted as having the upper body of a horse with the lower body of a fish. 

Description: Hippocampus is a medium denim blue ultra holographic base with magenta to orange shifting shimmer as well as magenta micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

January 2019 Polish Pickup | Mythology

There it is – all 47 items I was sent this month. I started this post 8 hours ago, and like each month – it’s a labor of love.

Once again we have a wonderful assortment of colors and finishes to choose from! I already have a few February shades in hand, so I’ve started a new month a little early.
