Polish Pickup September 2023 | Haunted History

Disclosure: I am a paid employee for Polish Pickup. While this post is not sponsored, I do have a relationship with the hosting collaboration shop.

Happy Saturday… kinda early Sunday. I was hoping to have the final few items here to complete my video and post, but USPS is still holding them and I don’t know when they will arrive – so I needed to move forward as is. Right now – we’ll be looking at the items I was sent for Polish Pickup September 2023… Haunted History!

Right now I have 59 items, but I am still waiting on 3 more that I am aware of – and that’s By Dany Vianna, Indie by Patty Lopes and Penelope Luz. Once those arrive – I will have a grand total of 62 items for the month.

As usual – you can check out all current 59 items on my YouTube channel – I swatch each polish and sort of demo each product so you can see the consistency or how it’s used.

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Glisten & Glow Top Coat which is available in this month’s shop (sent as PR).  For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Glisten & Glow top coat over it. For matte photos I used Anchor & Heart Lacquer Sea Glass (Gifted)

For my lighting set up I use artificial lighting due to my day job, my set up involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

For my nails – they are Apres Gel X nails throughout this post, and the style is Extra Short Stiletto.

Shop will open on September 1st at 11am Eastern.

Let’s jump in!

Inspiration: Inspired by Frankenstein Castle in Germany, once home to an alchemist named Johann Konrad Dippel who claimed to have created an “elixir of life,” and was accused of grave robbing and experimenting on the bodies. He might also have served in some part as a source of inspiration for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (published in 1818), as she may have heard stories about him during her stop in Gernsheim, just 10 miles away from the castle, during her journey on the Rhine in 1814.

Inspiration: Inspired by History Goes Bump the Podcast

Description: Milk has been used in beauty routines since ancient times, it is high in lactic acid that aids to remove dead skin cells, for soft and supple skin. Coconut milk is also packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamin C, which is known to brighten skin and increase elasticity. Along with quality skin loving oils and butters, this makes coconut milk the perfect option to include in a creamy coconut milk hand creme. This creme has a more fluid consistency than the Unicorn Magic Skincare Deluxe Triple Butter Hand Lotion, but is still rich, nourishing and moisturizing.

This month’s scent is History Goes Bump and it’s described as: fresh baked apple pie combined with creamy pumpkin and hints of nutmeg & ginger, sitting on base notes of maple sugar and vanilla frosting, yummy!

My nose picks up the mix of baked apples and pumpkin – but it’s an even mix, neither overpowers the other but they play well together, and then i get the nutmeg and vanilla mingling too. This is not a super sweet scent – but has the bakery yumminess and sweetness with the nutmeg spice.

Price: $9.75 | Cap: 190

Inspiration: Inspired by the urban legend of the “Demon’s Road,” located on a backroad in rural Texas, it leads to a cemetery. Locals claim that if you enter the graveyard, or taunt the spirits, you may have an extra passenger on the way home. People have said that the spirits will follow you home.

Inspiration: Inspired by Another urban legend, this time from San Antonio, of the “Devil in a Nightclub”
Locals say that in 1975 on Halloween Night at the El Camaroncito nightclub, a devilishly handsome man that danced the night away, stole hearts and swept women off their feet… had a very strange secret. As he was dancing someone looked down and saw that his feet were actually the feet of a chicken! Screams erupted and it’s said that he was the Devil.

Description: Nail Elixir is basically a nail and cuticle oil. This Elixir is Vapid’s blend of oils that come together to create a truly one of a kind nail and cuticle oil. It has weight to the oil itself, it’s enough to truly hydrate the toughest of cuticles and driest of nails while still being able to soak effortlessly into the skin. Once absorbed it’s not greasy and can be rubbed all over the hand for moisture.

This oil contains tamanu oil, a viscus oil that has a light brown sugar scent, this does come through in the scent straight from the bottle. Once it dries down, you will only smell the fragrance left behind. Vapid’s elixir is also heavy in Jojoba oil allowing it to soak into the nail on a molecular level, as jojoba oil is able to easily penetrate the nail and provide and carry other nutrients with it.

Nail Elixir comes in a 1 fl oz squeeze bottle

This scent is a buttery vanilla and plum bourbon with caramel marshmallow fluff, grounded by woods and whispers of jasmine blossoms. This scent is full of such a devilish mix of scents, some say it smells a bit different with every sniff.

Every time I smell this oil, I get a different profile and it’s odd. It smells amazing – but I seem to get a mix of strawberry jam and sweet incense. I know The Polished Mage got more of a sweet earthy scent. It’s a complex mix and … I love how different it is.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 150

Inspiration: Inspired by various libraries where fires took place, some that are said to be haunted.

Description: Wax Melts are a nice home fragrance option. You break off a piece of wax, place it in a wax warmer and as it warms and melts – it fragrances your home or office.

Shh… is fragrance blend of old books, some charred from the fires.

My nose does pick up a charred book like scent, that smokey fire scent – but there’s also a light, sweet note, almost slightly fruity. It smells quite unique and I plan on grabbing a backup.
