Polish Pickup October 2023 | 90’s Grungey

Happy Saturday once again! How is this year almost over?? Only 2 more Polish Pickups after this one and it will be 2024. Anyways – tonight we’re looking at the Polish Pickup October 2023 shop.. and the theme is 90’s Grunge!
I have 52 items to share currently and I know USPS is holding onto 2 I believe, so when those arrive they will get popped into here too.
As usual – you can check out all 52 items on my YouTube channel – I swatch each polish, show their special effect (if any) and sort of demo each product so you can see the consistency or how it is used.
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Glisten & Glow Top Coat which is available in this month’s shop (sent as PR). For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Glisten & Glow top coat over it. For matte photos I used Anchor & Heart Lacquer Sea Glass (Gifted)
For my lighting set up I use artificial lighting due to my day job, my set up involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).
For my nails – they are Apres Gel X nails throughout this post, and the style is Extra Short Stiletto.

Inspiration: The last time there was a 90’s theme, Alchemy Lacquers was inspired by Nirvana’s second album Nevermind, so of course we had to do Nirvana again! Heart Shaped Box was inspired by their final studio album cover, In Utero.
Description: Heart Shaped Box is a plum jelly base loaded with gold to orange to green shifting shimmer and holographic flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy and matte top coat for these photos.

ANCHOR & HEART LACQUER | THANK YOU, CHRIS (PAID PR)
Inspiration: Inspired by Chris Cornell, singer/songwriter and frontman for Soundgarden, a rock band formed in 1984 that is often regarded as one of the first to popularize grunge. Inspiration photo for this polish is a variation on the cover art for their wildly popular single, Black Hole Sun.

Description: Frogstomp is a vibrant medium tealish blue base with aurora pigments with a heavy blue shift and green reflective glitters. I used 2 coats, glitter smoother and top coat for these photos.

ACETONE ANTIDOTE BY BARONESS X | PISTACHIO PLAID
Inspiration: Inspired by the popular plaid flannels worn in the grunge era, specifically sage green colored ones.
Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.
Pistachio Plaid is a more unique and upscale version of popular pistachio scented bath and body items. Sweet pistachio ice cream is blended with the spicy warmth of cinnamon and clove tempered by the silky sweetness of vanilla, musk, and saffron.
This is a really nice scent, and my nose definitely picks up pistachio with the cinnamon and vanilla the most. It almost reminds me of spiced pistachio bread. It’s not really sweet – but it’s a nice bakery like scent

I did find the magnetic pull to be on the softer side for this shade. I only magnetized the middle and ring fingers so you can see it both ways

I only magnetized the middle and ring nail for these photos.
This shade did stain my gel nails. It’s a very pigmented red – so I’d recommend using a really good base coat.

GLISTEN & GLOW | NIRVANA UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK
Inspiration: Inspired by Nirvana. 1994 brought us 2 things, one iconic and one tragic. In 1993, Nirvana with front man Kurt Cobain recorded MTV’s – Nirvana Unplugged in New York! The album was released in November of 1994 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold 310,500 copies. The highest first-weeks sales of Nirvana’s career. Prior to the album’s release, Kurt Cobain took his own life. Many like myself still mourn his passing, we are grateful to have this album and other Nirvana albums to keep his memory alive.
The album cover is the inspo color wise for this polish.

Description:Glisten & Glow top coat is perfect for nail art and stamping and is a long lasting glassy quick dry top coat. I’ve been using the top coat for 8 years now and it’s never failed me. It dries fast, has a very glossy, high shine and floats well over nail art.
This top coats dries fast (about 4 minutes on me) and glows under blacklight. Also pairs beautifully with G&G Glitter Grabber if you picked that up in previous shops.

RESTORATION DROPS BY KBSHIMMER | NAIL POLISH THINNER (PREVIOUSLY PAID PR)

Description: Restoration Drops is just one of those things that polish lovers should have on standby. Polishes can have evaporation, making them thicker over time, or some ingredients just naturally make the polish thicker. Restoration Drops help thin out polish and bring the polishes either back to life (if evaporated) or bring it to a consistency you prefer.
I use these the most with top coats! Ever notice they get thicker and stringy around the halfway point? Add some thinner to get it back to what you prefer.
Whenever you use drops like this, start off with a few drops (5 or so) and mix, then see where the consistency is. Add more as necessary. This way you don’t overdo it. When I use it in top coats, I typically use 18-20 drops, but I also know my preference and have been doing it with this exact polish thinner (not this bottle, but this brand) for years so I know what to add to get it where I like.
One bottle of this usually lasts me 1 to 1.5 years.

Pear Berry is our throwback to a ‘90s fragrance many teens loved. Juicy notes of delicious pear blend seamlessly with ripe raspberry, boysenberry, and blackberry. A hint of apple adds a bit of sugary sweetness to this throwback scent.
This pretty much exactly as described and exactly like I remember from my high school days.

The light reflecting off the shimmer gives this polish a fairly opaque look but it person is a bit more on the sheer side.

DA BALM-ER BY RED EYED LACQUER | MOVING TO THE COUNTRY, TO EAT A LOT OF APPLES (PAID PR)
Inspiration: Inspired by Country Apple Bath and body Works scent!
Description: Da Balm-er is a cross between a balm and body butter. It’s creamy like a body butter but has a more emollient feel like a balm would. It’s an intensive treatment you can use anywhere (I love it on cuticles of course) but a little goes a long way. If you use too much – it will feel very oily (like a balm would) so start with a little and build up if you need more.
This smells exactly like I remember Bath & Body Works Country Apple scent smelled like! This brought back memories… since it was the only one my mom could stand and so it was what we were allowed to wear back then (I was probably 11 when I started wearing it.. or rather bathing in it practically.. as one does with their first body spray.

UNICORN MAGIC SKINCARE | DELUXE TRIPLE BUTTER HAND LOTION
Inspiration: Inspired by The Smashing Pumpkins
Description: Deluxe Triple Butter Hand Lotion is a thick and rich, decadent hand cream, made to sooth, moisturize and protect your delicate skin. Handcrafted with quality ingredients many of which are organic, in small batches.
This stuff is a staple and a little goes a long way! Their hand lotion has helps me through the winter.
Smashed Pumpkin Crunch Cake – creamy pumpkin pie filling with freshly baked yellow cake, melted butter, pecans, and hints of spice, combined with chestnuts and a splash of maple.
My nose picks up the pumpkin pie scent and pecans and maple the most and I do get that slight hint of spice. This isn’t overly strong or spicy or sweet. It has a nice, delicate balance.

Inspiration: Inspired by the music of Alice in Chains, and is named after their album “Jar of Flies”.

NAIL ELIXIR BY VAPID | BLACK RASPBERRY VANILLA (PAID PR)
Inspiration: Inspired by those classic 90’s staple scents!
Description: Nail Elixir is basically a nail and cuticle oil. This Elixir is Vapid’s blend of oils that come together to create a truly one of a kind nail and cuticle oil. It has weight to the oil itself, it’s enough to truly hydrate the toughest of cuticles and driest of nails while still being able to soak effortlessly into the skin. Once absorbed it’s not greasy and can be rubbed all over the hand for moisture.
This oil contains tamanu oil, a viscus oil that has a light brown sugar scent, this does come through in the scent straight from the bottle. Once it dries down, you will only smell the fragrance left behind. Vapid’s elixir is also heavy in Jojoba oil allowing it to soak into the nail on a molecular level, as jojoba oil is able to easily penetrate the nail and provide and carry other nutrients with it.

Description: Boyfriend’s Flannel is a deep turquoise jelly base loaded with black micro flakes and it glows green in the dark. I used 2 coats, glitter smoother topper and glossy top coat for these photos.
I did use a UV flashlight to charge the glow for photos.

This was another good month and so many shades that just looked really good with my skintone. I also love all the reds! I feel like there aren’t usually much in the way of red polishes, so this was a nice change for me.

I’m SO excited for Crystal Knockout’s 25 Fly this month! I love a cutesy polish and I love heart glitters. Hopefully the thermal lasts/transitions as well as Fancy Gloss thermals, which are basically my gold standard ― Crystal Knockout is a brand I’ve never tried before.

I want the Jen and Berries, Wildflower, Ethereal, KBshimmer, and vapid the most. There are so many others that I’d like to take home I need to spend real time reducing to one more olive green and one more red.
I think this will be my first Cuticula.
I didn’t think Grunge was my thing, but these polishes have me thinking otherwise. I’m loving Monach, Sweet & Sour, J&B, PFD & Dam. Going to have to slash come Friday, but these videos have me adding instead of subtracting….LOL.
