Press Samples for Polish Pickup
February 2020 | Flora & Fauna
Disclosure: I am a paid employee of Polish Pickup for their Social Media. While this post isn’t sponsored, I am an employee of their shop

It’s that time again, and I’m always shocked at how fast it sneaks up on me. I’m talking about Polish Pickup February 2020! Flora & Fauna is the theme – so it’s about the plant and animal life this month.

As of now (when I start typing this post) I have 101 items to share, but I’m still waiting on 5-7 items to arrive. Basically I’m in tax season now during my day job which won’t deter me from doing these massive Polish Pickup posts, but I do need to start typing a lot earlier to get things moving. The posts alone take roughly 8 hours, so if I start now, I might get done by tomorrow night with all of my breaks and my work schedule.

As far as I am aware – I think I’m still waiting on Bluebird Lacquer, Girly Bits (2 items), Grace-full Nail Polish, Luna Wax, and Emily de Molly.

I will have a giveaway at the end of the post like usual, so make sure you stick around for that.

This month I switched it up a bit and did each polish both glossy and matte. I only did 2 photos for matte to show them because that already brings us up to 7 photos per polish and… that’s a lot. I’m going to try to do this each month, however I went through a full bottle of matte top coat plus dipped into the start of a new bottle – and I basically need to buy a lot more matte top coat to continue it. I’m hoping to hit up Sally’s or something this weekend and seeing what a good price is to buy in bulk.

This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. As of right now it’s 101 items with 3-7 photos PER item (majority has 7 though.) If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.

The February Shop will open on February 7th and close February 10th.

For all photos shown, I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, either Vibrant Vinyls or Cuticula top coat, and Tonic Polish Velvet Matte Top Coat unless otherwise specified.

Let’s get this show on the road!

77 Nail Lacquer | Call Of The Wild

Inspiration: Inspiration comes from an elk painting by Iris Scott.

Description: Call Of The Wild is a black jelly based scattered holographic with golden shimmer, iridescent microglitter and silver holo microbar glitter. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat. I didn’t experience any issue with the bars curling or adding any texture to the polish.

1850 Artisan Polish | Sedum (Thermal)

Inspiration: The Sedum Plant

Description: Tridacna Maxima is a royal blue jelly base with multi-sized silver holographic glitter and a pink to orange to gold to green shimmer with a scattered linear holographic finish. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The blue base is deeper in person. Since it’s jelly, the light passing through the polish lightened the color a bit.

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Shake It, Nudibranch

Inspiration: inspired by the beautiful yet strange Spanish Shawl Nudibranch – a toxic, hermaphroditic sea slug that swims by violently thrashing its body back and worth in a c-shape. The result is a truly unique dance that looks like a fancy purple and orange rug being vigorously shaken out!

Description: Shake It, Nudibranch is a vivid blurple to red to copper to gold shifting multichrome with iridescent flakes that shift orange to pink to gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Baroness X | Acetone Additive

Inspiration: We’re pulling inspo from both sides of the theme this month, sweet purple figs (flora) and honey from bees (fauna).

Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin.

I personally use mine mostly in Zoya Remove+ remover – it’s not just for pure acetone.

This months scent is Purple Fig & Honey. Purple fig with top notes of warm honey and a slight touch of ginger in a sugary vanilla base. This month’s Acetone Antidote comes in a purple ombre glass bottle.

This is a lighter scent and honey and vanilla are the notes I detect most, then a hint of fig. It smells really nice.

Price: $4.25 | Cap: None

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Spriggan Lip Balm Tint

Inspiration: the Burnt Spriggans from Skyrim

Description: Spriggan is an unscented lip balm tinted a sheer, deep, brownish red with golden bronze shimmer. For the photo below, I applied 2 coats on my lips to reach the color shown.

This is one of the sheerer shades that I can think of for the lip tints done for Polish Pickup, but it’s very wearable for a variety of people and you can layer it up for more color.

By Vanessa Molina | PEEL OFF

Inspiration: image of fauna that does skin exchange

Description: PEEL OFF is a peel off base coat which is perfect for swatchers like me! It does contain latex, so if you have a latex allergy, this isn’t for you. Goes on white and dries clear so it doesn’t alter the polish color – then it easily peels off when ready to remove. This can also be used to protect cuticles for stamping/gradients if you apply around the cuticle line and let dry.

Price: $9.00 | Cap: 200 US / 20 UK

Cuticula | Power Couple Duo

Inspiration: Inspired by Tropical Birds

Description: The Power Couple duo includes Mic Drop Base Coat and Limitless Quick Dry Top Coat. The scent this month is Hawaiian Punch, which smells almost exactly like the bright red drink. As soon as you smell it, it will remind you of it, I promise!

Mic Drop Base Coat is a 5 Free base that is a ridge filler and sticky bond base coat combined. Limitless Top Coat is a 5 Free quick dry top coat that dries fast and can be used with nail art if you float the top coat on.

Fun fact – I was addicted to Hawaiian Punch while I was pregnant – so the scent made me smile. It’s a fruity blend of pineapple, papaya, guava, orange, apple, apricot, passion fruit, and cherries. Super sugary sweet.

Price: $16.00 | Cap: None

Description: Glofish is a deep blue jelly base with fluorescent glitters ranging from micro to large size and sea blue hex glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is a slightly darker blue in person, since it’s a jelly base – the light passes through all layers and makes it appear lighter than it is.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 75 US / 5 UK

Ginger Fizz Boutique | Fairy Godmothers

Inspiration: Sleeping Beauty was one om my first princes dolls. I still sometimes catch myself singing—Once Upon a Dream. But my favorite part about Sleeping Beauty is that she had not one but three fairy godmothers—Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. Since Sleeping Beauty is often seen sleeping with a rose in her hands and she was renamed Briar Rose, the scent choice for this wax brittle had to be roses. Enjoy this sweet scent will hanging out with your prince charming or waiting for him to find you!

Description: Fairy Godmothers wax is a white wax sprinkled with pink rose petals, and the scent is sweet, fresh cut roses and vanilla. It’s a classic and romantic scent. The rose scent isn’t super strong and ‘grandmother’ like at all – it’s well balanced and makes a nice home scent.

Price: $5.00 | Cap: 75 US / 25 UK

Girly Bits | Fireweed

Inspiration: I took inspiration from the magic and wonder of Banff National Park, Canada. It’s filled with beautiful lakes of aqua and turquoise, majestic mountains, and acres upon acres of wildflowers and wildlife. I was inspired specifically by an image of fireweed by Lake Louise, which is where one of my daughters currently lives and works as a concierge. Fireweed is often the first plant life to grow after the devastation of wildfires, and it has been used for years by First Nations people to treat burns and other skin conditions because of its anti inflammatory properties.

Description: Fireweed is a beautiful pastel pinky lavender base with a shift that goes from aqua to fuchsia, as well as aqua-blue-green-pink iridescent flakes and holo micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Price: $7.50 | Cap: 80

Glisten & Glow | Cuticle Remover Pen & Cuticle Oil Pen Duo

Inspiration: N/A

Description: The scent for this month’s duo is Pomegranate Punch, which is a custom blend of the tangy fruity yet light and refreshing pomegranate with twist of orange zest. I need someone to make this for me as a drink, cause it smells delicious and refreshing. I definitely smell the pomegranate and a citrus zing to it.

Glisten & Glow’s cuticle remover softens and removes excess cuticle as well as eponychium skin and comes in an easy to use twist-up pen style applicator. The cuticle oil is in the same style twist up pen – and I actually keep this duo in my desk drawer at work. It’s very easy to carry.

Directions for Cuticle Remover: Apply generously to the cuticle area and let sit for 60 seconds. Next, gently push back with your favorite tool, I personally love my Germanikure Crystal Cuticle Pusher (that’s an affiliate link) Finally, wash hands and cuticles thoroughly with soap and water.

Follow up with the cuticle oil pen, and your cuticles will be in tip top shape.

I would show a before and after, but I’m actually incredibly anal about my nail care and use remover every Sunday, plus push back every other day – so I didn’t have enough on the nail to show a before/after shot.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: No Cap

Glisten & Glow | Pink Gerbera Daisies

Inspiration: Pink Gerbera Daisies are my favorite flower! I love the bright bold color of the pedals with dark contrast of the center of the flower. They were my wedding flowers also! They bring a smile to your face when you see them and brighten any room!

Description: Pink Gerbera Daisies is a bright neon pink glitter crelly base packed with various size and shape black glitters and black holo glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is a deeper pink in person. It’s bright, so it photographed like a neon (which makes the color correcting harder.)

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Grace-full Nail Polish | Floral Dreams

Description: Floral Dreams is a tri thermal moving from burgundy when cold to magenta – red then to mauveish lavender when warm. There are red, cooper and gold chrome chameleon flakes throughout. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Heather’s Hues | WiTs Lotion

Inspiration: Oncidium Sharry Baby, aka the chocolate orchid

Description:  WiTs body lotion is a fast absorbing body lotion that doesn’t leave my hands greasy. The texture is light and creamy and a little goes a long way.

This month’s scent is Chocolate Orchid and it’s a unique and fresh blend of light floral mixed with warm milk chocolate undertones to create a beautiful, clean fragrance.

My nose picks up the floral blend first, then the chocolate is an afterthought in the scent, it kind of mellows out the floral.

***CONTAINS OILS DERIVED FROM SEEDS/NUTS***

Price: $6.50 | Cap: 30 US / 5 UK

Heaven Scent Treasures | Roll On Perfume

Inspiration: The Last Unicorn movie/Book

Description: The Unicorn Lived in a Lilac Wood is a hand crafted blend of Apples & Oak, and Lilac. Imagine walking in a apple orchard that’s next to a lilac field.

My nose picks up the lilac scent most, but the apple scent gives it a fresh, juicy twist. It has silver flecks that are left behind when rolling it on. If you don’t want it to leave on any shimmer, don’t shake it up – just let the shimmer settle at the bottom. It mixes back up easily if you want to swap back and forth between shimmer.

Price: $9.00 | Cap: No Cap

Hit The Bottle | TIddalik’s Laugh

Inspiration: Green and gold bell frog of Southeastern Australia

Description: Tiddalik’s Laugh is a bright lime to grass green stamping polish with a gold shimmer. Can also be worn as a regular polish, opaque in one coat. I used it alone on the index and pinkie nails and stamped over a black creme on the middle and ring fingers.

Plate used is What’s Up Nails B018 Fields of Flowers

Price: $8.50 | Cap: 200 US / 15 UK

Hit The Bottle | Black Undies

Inspiration: N/A

Description: Black Undies is a black peel off base coat. This is a one coater, and I only used 1 coat for my photos. While the 10 minute time to fully dry may sound like a lot, if you think about it – a 1 coat black peel off base eliminates the need for base coat and 1-2 coats of creme – which would run about the same amount of time or longer.

This is a water based peel off base coat that last much longer than the latex peel offs, plus they removed the need for a base color under your glitters.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 100 US / 10 UK

Jior Couture | Avian Kaleidoscope (Magnetic)

I really pick up the freesia and white musk scents and it’s really good.

KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

Lucky 13 Lacquer | Lotion of Immortality Trio

Inspiration: Ghibli

Description: Lotion of Immortality is a thick moisturizing lotion, wonderful on cuticles and hands or anywhere else! Made with Shea butter, Aloe, and love. You don’t need much, only use 1/4 tsp for both hands, or half that for just your cuticles.

This month we have a trio of 20g Lotion of Immortality jars.

Soot Sprite Shenanigans – Happy little helping hands, just add candy! Includes notes of sweetened fruits including pear, kiwi, raspberry, grape, and peach, plus a hint of jasmine and lily.

To my nose, this is a light, candy sweet lotion. Reminds me of NERDS candy almost with a very slight floral undertone.

She Likes My Spark – Perfectly toasted marshmallows and burning embers. Includes notes of ooey-gooey toasted marshmallows with mellow hints of burning wood.

This one surprised me. It smells like a campfire that has fizzled out, that smokey scent mixed with wet wood – like it was put out by water, and a very light hint of marshmallows.

Keeper of the Forest – Gentle rainfall as you rest in a hidden tree hollow. Includes notes of forest foliage and a hint of cedar.

Very unisex and earthy. It has the forest greenery scent and I can definitely detect the cedar.

Luna Wax | Butterfly Garden

Inspiration: Inspired by Butterflies eating fruit

Description: Can I just say – I LOVE this style of wax? It’s super cute. Butterfly Garden is a scoopable wax scented in Pineapple, Strawberry and Coconut with little wax butterflies, Fruit on a bed of “grass” and “dirt.”

This particular wax smells almost like a tropical smoothie to me. The pineapple and coconut are the more dominant scents to my nose and I barely detect the strawberry. The coconut is probably the scent I notice first. It’s very soothing and really well done.

You will get the little shovel scoop with purchase as well.

More from Tanya: My son has autism helped in coming up with a colour concept for this thermal beauty. He is now 13 and the things that he likes aren’t generally what other people like. To my nose, this has an earthy scent and rain type scent mingled together. Definitely an interesting scent, but it’s very unisex and calming.

Vibrant Vinyls | Duo of Scented Double Bond Base & Fast & Hard Top Coat in Flora & Fawna

Inspiration: Fawn in Spring

Description: Vibrant Vinyls will have 2 listings this month. One listing will be this base coat and top coat DUO while the other will be JUST the top coat. So you can buy both or just the top coat.

Both are in the scent Flora & Fawna, which is a truly complex fragrance blend of juicy apples, orange slices, ripe peach, and pineapple spun with floral middle notes of lily of the valley, jasmine, and violet balanced on woodsy fresh oak leaves and oak moss.

My nose picks up Lily of the Valley and Jasmine with a bit of the citrus and orange to mellow out the floral.

Double Bond:
This revolutionary 2 in 1 base coat is formulated with proteins to fill imperfections and ridges on the surface of the nail leaving you with a smooth even base ready for polish. Vibrant Vinyls added sticky bond base coat to the ridge filler to grab onto your polish and keep it there.

Fast & Hard can be used over wet polish and provides a glossy shine. Plus it plays well with stamping if you “float” the top coat over the design.

Price: $15.00 for the set or $8.00 for the Top Coat alone (will be separate listings) | Cap: 100 US / 50 UK Duo Sets & 150 US / 50 UK Single Top Coats

Zombie Claw Polish | Decaying Beauty (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by Raven (art by Brenda Clarke Digital Art)

Description: Decaying Beauty is a vampy thermal that transitions from black (cold) to dark red (warm) and contains a variety of color shifting flakes and red to gold to green ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I did the photos a little different because the deep color made a transition shot harder to see it was a thermal. My index finger is in warm state which the rest are cold.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 75

Polish Pickup February 2020 | Flora & Fauna

As I said at the beginning – I still have minimum of 6 more items I’m waiting on, but there might be a couple more. As they arrive I’ll add them into the post.

Once again, I’m still waiting on Bluebird Lacquer, Girly Bits (2 items), Grace-full Nail Polish, Luna Wax, and Emily de Molly.

Overall for February – I was surprised at all the green. I shouldn’t be.. it’s FLORA and fauna – but I don’t feel like we see much green in Polish Pickup. For once – purple did not dominate the color scheme, but there’s still enough sprinkled in that purple lovers will be happy.

Cool tones dominated – primarily blue and greens.
