Press Samples for Polish Pickup
December 2019 | Winter Is Coming

I have the final Polish Pickup post for 2019. Hard to believe another year is almost over… but at least we’re going out with a bang! Today we’re going to take a look at the Polish Pickup December 2019 Winter Is Coming shop!

This month the sales dates are changing. Instead of our typical Friday – Monday format, it will be a few days early and run from Monday – Friday. So mark your calendars for December 2nd – December 6th. This is to help expedite shipping a bit, but also give some breathing room for makers and PPU staff for the holidays.

This month I have 102 items to share with you all. It was a busy month, but as always – it was a fun month and putting the final collage together always makes me think “I did HOW many?!” but here we are.

The theme this month is ‘Winter Is Coming’ which left makers open to a lot of possibilities. They could go the Game of Thrones route or Winter in general. Anything from Winter traditions to holidays to memories to anything that freezes your little tush off. With the assortment I reviewed, there’s actually a nice, balanced mix of GoT and Winter in general.

This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. As of right now it’s 101 items with 3-7 photos PER item. If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.

Let’s get this show on the road.

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Siren’s Cure Cuticle Creme

Inspiration: The bright, fruity scents of holiday cooking & baking!

Description: Siren’s Cure Cuticle Creme is an interesting consistency. It’s whipped, so it feels light, but has a nice thickness to it at the same time. When applying, it reminds me of butter. It starts off feeling thickish, but melts away when in contact with body heat. It’s a really nice consistency and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy.

The scent is Merry Cranberry and it smells like the holidays. It has that crisp cranberry scent with the sweetness of raspberries. Basically the holidays minus the cinnamon scent.

Baroness X | Acetone Antidote in I Want A Pink Xmas Tree!

Inspiration: non-traditional holiday trees

Description: Acetone Antidote is back – and I look forward to this every month. This month we have I Want A Pink Xmas Tree! which honestly sounds like a battle I would have with Nick.. mainly knowing he would say no. The scent is a powdery evergreen scent (the powdery scent cuts the harshness of evergreen) with light notes of berries, green apple and spun sugar. The scents shouldn’t work together… but they do. You get powder, shrubbery, sweet and tart all in one.

My nose primarily picks up tart apple and powder. It’s sweet but light.

If you are new to Acetone Antidote – this is a small vial of liquid that you pour into your polish remover in order to cut the harshness. I generally use a full vial for 10-12oz of remover, but you can do less if you prefer. Most use it with Acetone remover, but I use it in Remove + so it bumps up the moisturizing properties.

Ingredients: glycerin, jojoba oil, h2o, fragrance, poly 80

Price: $4.25 | Cap: 145 US / 10 UK

Baroness X | Ice Bubble Flambé (Thermal)

Inspiration: Our inspo is month is flammable ice bubbles that form in ice in some lakes. Most famously from Lake Abraham in Alberta, Canada. Methane bubbles are produced by decaying organic matter in the sediments at the bottom of lakes or rivers. The bubbles freeze when temperatures plunge.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Blood Magic

Inspiration: Inspired by the way dragon eggs are hatched in Game of Thrones

Description: Blood Magic is a rusty reddish burgundy jelly base with bright red to green shimmer and red o green ghost flakes. My photos do pull a bit bright, but I find the 3 fingered posed photo to be closest to accurate (but still it’s a bit darker in person.) I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | No Cap

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Smarter Than The Average Dragon Tinted Lip Balm

Inspiration: Drogon from Game of Thrones

Description: Smarter Than Your Average Dragon is an unscented shimmery red lip balm. It’s definitely a pink leaning red, and on me it comes out strawberry pinkish red with my lip pigmentation. I found this slightly sheerer than previous months, so 1 swipe will give you a nice wash of pinky red color, but it builds up nicely. On my lips in the photo below is 3 swipes over my lips.

Price: $5.00 | No Cap

Crystal Knockout | Pastel Mirror

Inspiration: An iced-over lake reflecting the winter sunset

Description: Pastel Mirror is a delicate rose pink chrome base with shifts of purple and gold and subtle iridescent shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is slightly stronger in person, but the paleness of my skin and the paleness of the polish washed everything out. It’s a very delicate shade in general though.

Price:$11.00 | Cap: 80 US/ 10 UK

Limitless Top Coat is also 5 Free, and it’s a quick dry top coat that gives your mani a nice shine, and if you float it… it plays nice with nail art too.

Inspiration: a photo that a friend took in the Arctic

Description: Winter Never Quite Leaves is a thermal that’s dark lavendar grey from some angles and dark brown from others when cold that transitions to a light teal when warm, and is filled with filled with shifty red to gold aurora pigment. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The first photo below is the best of mine for transition colors. We just had colds sweep through our house and my body temp is still all over the place, so the transition tried to go back to cold too quickly for a photo session.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 180

Stamping Plate by DRK Nails | Designer 3 (Snow Flake)

Inspiration: A rainbow in the winter

Description: Designer 3 Snowflake Stamping Plate is a larger imaged plate that gives room for a lot of creativity. There are large snowflakes all over the plate that connect, and in some cases, they can also pass as flowers (so it goes from a Winter to Spring stamping plate). It’s deeper etched and images were super easy to pick up using a clear stamper.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: 50

DRK Nails | Gratitude

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 130

Frozen Lake Stamping Plate | Esmaltes da Kelly

Inspiration: Frozen Lake

Description: Esmaltes da Kelly brings us a fall to Winter like plate with a nice variety of images. I did have some initial trouble picking up images with thinner stamping polishes, so I do recommend thicker, more pigmented ones. Could be my user error – but I was cruising along and came across that bump. Once I swapped stamping polish brands, it was smooth sailing.

Price: $14.00 | Cap: 100

Emily de Molly | Capture The Dream (Magnetic)

Ginger Fizz Boutique | First Snow Wax

Inspiration: There’s nothing quite like the first snowflakes of the season. Time seems to stand still while children and adults alike get lost in the magical world of a winter wonderland. You are taken back to your childhood days of making snow angles, building snowmen, and sledding down the biggest hills in town. It’s no wonder as adults we are still mystified by the power of a single, unique snowflake. Enjoy melting this scent and try creating some of your own paper snowflakes while you wait on the first snowflakes of the season.

Description: First Snow is a mini wax loaf that has lilac, light turquoise, and sky blue layers topped with three white, sparkling, snowflakes. This mini loaf is scented with juicy pear and leafy greens dusted with sugared cinnamon spices. The top notes are leaf green, orange, citrus and lime, middle notes are ripe pear and apple, and bottom notes are sugar and slight woodiness.

This is a very welcoming scent with milder fruits that give you that bit of juicy fragrance and the leafy greens and cinnamon balance it out to make it a good home fragrance that isn’t too sweet, but not too “holiday” My nose primarily picks up juicy pear, lime and sugar.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: 75 US / 25 UK

Girly Bits | I Came, I Thaw, I Conquered

Inspiration:  Ice Age (the movie)

Description: Ice Hole I Came, I Thaw, I Conquered is a soft lilac purple jelly base loaded with blue to aqua to purple to pink to violet shimmer that gives a glowy look, plus a subtle scattered holographic effect. It is on the sheer side when you first apply, but don’t freak out – it will build up nicely. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | No Cap

Glisten & Glow | Cuticle Remover Pen & Cuticle Oil Pen Duo

Inspiration: None

Description: This month Glisten & Glow brings us a duo pack of her cuticle remover and cuticle oil – both scented in Winter Cheer! The scent is a custom blend of orange, cinnamon, clove, cranberry and baked vanilla. My nose especially picks up on the orange and clove, but it’s a very warm scent. I detected a hint of the vanilla, but not the cranberry… all noses are different though. It’s a nice, holiday scent.

Glisten & Glow’s cuticle remover softens and removes excess cuticle as well as eponychium skin and comes in an easy to use twist-up pen style applicator. The cuticle oil is in the same style twist up pen – and I actually keep this duo in my desk drawer at work. It’s very easy to carry.

Directions for Cuticle Remover: Apply generously to the cuticle area and let sit for 60 seconds. Next, gently push back with your favorite tool, I personally love my Germanikure Crystal Cuticle Pusher (that’s an affiliate link) Finally, wash hands and cuticles thoroughly with soap and water.

ingredients: distilled water, potassium hydroxide, coconut oil and fragrance Glisten & Glow Cuticle Oil Pen is a custom blend of Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, argan oil, castor oil, acai berry extract, tea tree oil and fragrance oil

Price: $12.00 | No Cap

Glisten & Glow | Olive, The Other Reindeer

Inspiration: Based on the children’s book and TV/DVD of Olive, The Other Reindeer written by Vivian Walsh about a jack Russell terrier dog, Olive who tries to save Christmas and help Santa deliver the presents to all the children. The play on words with OLIVE and “All of the” sure causes quite the mix up one little dog’s quest to save the day, not to mention all the characters that get in his way!

I used 1 coat over a black creme for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 100

Stamper by Hit the Bottle Polishes | Double Shot No Ice

Inspiration: None

Description: The Double Shot, No Ice Stamper is a dual headed stamper. It comes apart in 3 pieces, a short barrel holding a stamper head, a long barrel with a stamper head and the cap (shown in photo below) The stamper heads are semi firm, with a little squish to them and are slightly sticky.

I’ve been using this same stamper, but with “ice” (crystals in the small barrel) so I’m familiar and comfortable with this style of stamper. What I usually do is use the long barrel end to stamp with, and I used the short barrel to burnish powder on and stamp with. Powders make the stamping heads slightly cloudy over time, so this way I’m not messing up my main stamper. You can also not use the smaller side and just have it hold onto a replacement stamping head.

Each month for Polish Pickup – when you see any stamp I’ve done – it’s done with this stamper (again, the “ice” version)

You will receive the 3 piece stamper and a scraper card in a clear box.

Price: $10.50 | Cap: 150

Hit the Bottle | Staring at the Embers (Stamping Polish)

Inspiration: being cozy in front of a glowing winter’s fire

Description: Staring At The Embers is a bright orange leaning coral creme with a very subtle gold sheen to it. It can work as a 1 coat creme or a stamping polish. I used 1 coat on my index and pinky, and stamped over black for middle and ring. It does dry to a satin finish, so use top coat to give it a glossy look.

KBShimmer | Cocoa & Cookies Sugar Scrub

Inspiration: Hot Chocolate & Christmas Cookies

Description: KBShimmer is back with her sugar scrub, and I swear this one makes you want to grab a spoon and dig in. Don’t though… don’t eat the body products.

Cocoa & Cookies smells exactly how you’d expect. If you took a fresh baked sugar cookie… and dipped it into a mug of hot chocolate and took a big whiff.. this is what that would smell like. It’s deliciously sweet and chocolately. I find the cocoa to be the stronger scent, but it’s a milk chocolate cocoa, so it’s semi mild and smooth, then I pick up the bakery sugar cookie scent.

KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.

Price: $10.00 | No Cap

Inspiration: nuclear winter, Crawl out through the fallout, baby!

Description: Nuclear Winter Wonderland is a steel blue (cold) to dusty peachy pink (warm) thermal with white shimmer and crimson to copper to gold color shifting shimmer mixed in. I dropped the ball a bit – as it’s a glow in the dark and I was so focused on the thermal that I forgot to photograph it. It’s a strong red glow in the dark effect.

I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The polish dries down to a satin like finish without a topper.

Everyone at work knows where I keep them so they can grab them if they need. So office or home – it’s nice to have and it works.

Description: Yuki Onna is a sheer ice blue with blue to purple to red shimmer, purple to blue iridescent flakes and holo flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. VNL is still showing, so you can use thicker coats, or a base color to create a more opaque look.

Price: $13.50 | Cap: 200

Moon Shine Mani | KEVIN!!!

Moonflower Polish | Tropical Winter Vacation (Stamping Polish)

Inspiration: I’m from the tropics where it never snows and we can enjoy the beach during the winter. We even put up Christmas Lights on the palm trees! So whether you come join me in my current home of Florida or go visit my homeland of Puerto Rico, you know that beach getaway is how you’d rather be spending your winter.

Description: Tropical Winter Vacation is a medium purple stamping polish with pink to red to gold color shifting shimmer and scattered holo mixed in. I used this as a regular polish on my index and pinky, and stamped over a black creme on middle and ring.

This naturally dries down to a matte finish.

My Stunning Nails | Rosebud

Inspiration: Inspired by a red sled named Rosebud in the movie Citizen Kane

Description: Rosebud is a medium red creme with gold aurora shimmer, gold flakes and gold microglitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat.

I got some flakes (2 maybe?) that stuck up a little, so I manipulated them to lay smooth. They weren’t curled, they just hugged another flake and went a little wonky.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 75

Nail Hoot | Winter Rose

Inspiration: Winter Roses

Description: Winter Rose is a bright pink jelly base with a bold blue flash and shimmering pink to blue microflakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $9.99 | No Cap

Nailed It Nail Polish | The Anti-Claus

Inspiration: Inspired by Krampus

Description: The Anti-Claus is a blackened red based scattered holographic, with red to orange to gold multichrome pigment, red to gold ultrachrome chameleon flakes, red to green crystal flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 120

Nailed It Nail Polish | Peppermint Forest Bye, Girl Barrier

Inspiration: Inspired by Mr. Mint from Candy Land

Description: Bye, Girl Barrier in Peppermint Forest, inspired by Mr Mint from Candy Land! This is a dual use product. You can use it as a latex cuticle barrier for nail art… and like I do – as a peel off base coat. It has no color so it dries down clear and doesn’t interfere with swatching or altering colors.

Want to know how I get through hundreds of swatches without my cuticles shriveling up? Products like this.

Brush 1 coat on, wait about a minute and a half for it to dry (when it’s clear, dry) paint, photograph, peel and go. It minimizes use of remover and still forms a nice base to avoid staining too.

It’s latex though, so if you have an allergy to it, don’t use.

This is lightly scented with a creamy vanilla scent and touch of peppermint so it doesn’t smell like straight up latex and is easier to handle.

Price: $6.75 | Cap: 45

Native War Paints | Beautiful Wanderings

Inspiration: Inspired by a photo of foot prints in the snow against a beautiful sky

Description: Beautiful Wanderings is a teal jelly base loaded with red to orange to yellow shifting shimmer. The shimmer is more vibrant in person and the polish has that inner glow look to it. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | No Cap

Necessary Evil Polish | Peppermint Kisses (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by peppermint white chocolate mocha

Description: Peppermint Kisses is a warm, slightly pink leaning red (cold) to clearish white (warm) thermal with scattered holo, red shimmer and white and red holo glitters mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 150

NeVerMind Polish | It’s Almost Dawn

Inspiration: Inspired by 30 Days of Night

Description: It’s Almost Dawn is a blood red jelly base with white micro glitters and bright red micro glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 100

Night Owl Lacquer | Nothing Burns Like The Cold

Inspiration: Inspired by a quote from George R.R. Martin

Price: $12.50 | No Cap

Noodles Nail Polish | Red Cup Season

Inspiration: Inspired by Starbucks red cups for the holiday season. When the red cups come out, you know Christmas/Winter is coming!

Description: Red Cup Season is a cherry red crelly base loaded with holo flakes, silver and red holo micro glitters, and red metallic micro flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. It has a mild texture when dry, so you may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth, glassy finish.

Price: $11.50 | No Cap

Olive and Finley | Three’s A Crowd Bracelet Trio

Inspiration: Inspired by “When winter holidays come, so do unexpected guests!

Description: The “three’s a crowd” bracelet trio comes ready to be gifted with a fabric bag and a winter themed card so you are never caught empty handed! Perfect to gift, but so sparkly, gorgeous and easy to wear that you might be tempted to keep them for yourself.

Featuring a wintery color palette, these stacking bracelets are primarily shades of silver and pewter with accents of blue and blurple. Each stretch bracelet is 7 inches. These 3 coordinating stacking bracelets look stunning layered together, but also make a statement when worn alone.

These are really nicely done and make nice arm candy. The stretch piece inside is a thin, clear stretchy piece, and I had no issues with it feeling like it might snap. Perfect for wearing with jeans or on a night out.

Price: $15.00 | Cap: 25 Sets

Pahlish | Jolly AF

Inspiration: neon Christmas lights

Description: Jolly AF is a bright holly green with scattered holographic microflakes and bright copper to lime green shifting multichrome shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Description: Snow Tree is a sheer silvery icy blue base loaded with green to purple duochrome shimmer and icy blue holographic glitters in 3 different sizes. Price: $11.00 | Cap: 280

Pepper Pot Polish | Fireside Chat

Inspiration: Inspired by a warm and glowy fireplace in the middle of a snowstorm

Description: Fireside Chat is a vibrant persimmon orange-red with rainbow flakes, as well as gold flakes, and a pink shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 80

Bath Fizz by Pepper Pot Polish | Warm Fuzzy

Inspiration: Inspired by your favorite cozy blanket and sitting by a roaring fire.

Description: Warm Fuzzy Bath Fizz is a nice, warm scent. Sweet spice, fragrant woods, tonka bean, light and dark musk, resin and rum. Nick really loved the scent because it wasn’t so “girly” and the scent lingers awhile after. I find myself sprinkling a little in the sink and running warm water just to scent the bathroom.

Bath Fizz is like a crushed bath bomb. Run water and then pour in your desired amount and it will fizz a bit and scent your bath water while also adding some body softening properties for a nice, silky smooth feeling after.

Price: $9.00 | No Cap

Poetry Cowgirl Nail Polish | It’s Snow Cold

Inspiration: fresh fallen snow in morning light

Description: It’s Snow Cold is a sheer white jelly base packed with pink to purple to orange shifting shimmer as well as iridescent micro glitters that spark shades of pink, gold and aqua. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 140

Quixotic Polish | Make it Stop

Inspiration: Inspired by Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas, is you”

I don’t listen to radio or anything much, and I can honestly say I don’t know all the words to this song. I’ve only heard snippets in movies, commercials and Del’s Youtube.

Description: Make It Stop is a gold linear holographic loaded with red to green multichrome shimmer. The red gives off a bronze shift and it’s beautiful. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 300

Rogue Lacquer | Winter Solstice

Inspiration: Inspired by the winter solstice

Description: Winter Solstice is a pale lavender jelly base with orange to pink to green color shifting flakes and holo micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 330

Sassy Cats Lacquer | Dragonglass

Inspiration: Game of thrones Dragonglass

Description: Dragonglass is a smokey black base with intense royal blue shimmer. There’s a very slight deep purple looking shift at extreme angles, but I’m not sure if my eyes are playing tricks or not. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 100

Sassy Pants Polish | Frozen Sapphire

Inspiration: Inspired by a beautiful black, blue, silver winter scene

Description: Frozen Sapphire is a sapphire blue scattered holographic jelly base with black, holographic silver and white opalescent assorted glitters, as well as blue and silver shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 100

Sassy Sauce Polish | Heart Tree

Inspiration: Game of Thrones Weirwood tree

Description: Heart Tree is a thin white crelly base with aurora and copper shimmer, red to orange shifting flakes and red holo micro glitter mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.75 | Cap: 100

Starlight and Sparkles | Frost Flowers

Inspiration: Inspired by frost flowers, or sea ice, are ice crystals that grow on thin ice over water. The feathery ice crystal structures they form tend to grow in groups, and look like glittering flowers in a field of sparkling ice. Frost flowers or ice flowers are also what a lot of people call the beautiful patterns of crystals that can form in ice on windows and windshields. I always loved those patterns in ice, so finding out they basically come in 3D, and that there are places where there are whole “meadows” of them, I knew I had to pick frost flowers for my polish inspiration this month!

Description: Frost Flowers is a blue leaning periwinkle crelly base with blue to purple and teal to violet iridescent aurora flakes, pearl white microflakes, and blue to purple and purple to pink iridescent shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $15.00 | Cap: 185

Starlight and Sparkles | Flurry in a Bottle Snow Globe

Inspiration: Inspired by snow globes!

Description: Flurry in a Bottle is a snow globe in a polish bottle! It contains blue and silver metallic and holographic glitter, blue-purple iridescent glitter, and two sizes of holographic silver snowflakes. Shake it up and watch the magic! The silver snowflakes are larger and heavier, and fall more quickly, while the smaller glitters drift more slowly downward. After it’s shaken up, you can tilt and flip the bottle, watching the snowflakes move, and how they move the other glitter as they fall.

The polish snow globe comes with a lanyard clip and a small ball chain with clasp (good for attaching to a purse or tote), as well as a lobster clasp with a ring on the end (good for using a ribbon loop to hang it like an ornament).

7.5mL bottle, full height approximately 3 and 1/8″

Price: $7.50 | Cap: 185

STELLA CHROMA | Cold As Ice

Inspiration: Inspired by album art for Foreigner’s classic hit “Cold As Ice”

Description: Cold As Ice is an antique gold metallic base that shifts through green, pale gold, and a bit of silver blue, with holo flakes and red to gold to yellow ultrachrome chameleon flakes

Price: $12.00 | No Cap

Emulsified Sugar Scrub by STELLA CHROMA | I Drink And I Know Things

Inspiration: Inspired by Tyrion Lannister and his love for wine and knowledge.

Description: My favorite hand scrub! This month Stella Chroma went with a warm red wine scent with a woodsy finish. Reminds me of a Cabernet that Nick enjoys. I usually bring these to work to use… but this one will stay home. Don’t need them thinking I’m a lush.

Stella Chroma’s Emulsified Sugar Scrub is an incredibly fine particle sugar that’s densely packed in. Dig a little out of the jar, massage into your hands then rinse and keep rubbing it in while rinsing. Your hands will feel smooth, soft and incredible.

Price: $6.00 | No Cap

Supermoon Lacquer | This Is My December

Inspiration: Inspired by The song ‘My December’ by Linkin Park

Description: This Is My December is a medium navy blue holographic base filled with blue to red color shifting shimmer, silvery white shimmer, gold, red, and white sparks, iridescent blue, red, and rose pearl microflakes, and holographic microflakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | No Cap

Supernatural Lacquer | Santasaurus

Inspiration: Inspired by the book The Dinosaurs Night Before Christmas by Anne Muecke

Description: Santasaurus is an evergreen jelly base with lime ultrachrome chameleon flakes, large particle holo sparkle, gold and green micro holo glitters and green color shift and metallic flake. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 70

Sweet & Sour Lacquer | Unbeleafably Evergreen

Inspiration: During the winter months, we usually rush to cover our plants to keep them from freezing over. Hellebores actually love the cold and thrive during the winter months. They start blooming around December, and continue through mid-Spring. However, hellebores are categorized as perennials and evergreen. Meaning, that they last for what seems an infinite amount of time, and they retain their green leaves year round.

Description: Unbeleafably Evergreen is a sheer golden green base with flakes that shift shifts from lime-blue-gold, violet-blue-green, and red-copper-gold-green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is a sheerer shade and depending on the thickness of your coats, you may still have VNL.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 75

Sweet Heart Polish | You Sit on a Throne of Lies

Inspiration: Inspired by my favorite Christmas movie Elf, when Buddy realizes that the store Santa isn’t the real Santa

Description: You Sit On A Throne Of Lies is a greige crelly base with gold flakes, taupe to green, blue to pink & red to gold ultrachrome chameleon flakes, as well as copper shimmer with red and blue sparks. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $9.50 | Cap: 95

The Lady Varnishes | Furnace Tune-Up

Inspiration: Inspired by furnace flames

Description: Furnace Tune-Up is a blackened plum crelly base with orange to green shimmer and indigo and pink flakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 150

The Soapy Chef | Winter is Here Whipped Body Butter

Inspiration: Inspired by Hot Apple Cider

Description: This is a fluffy whipped body butter. It moisturizes like crazy but doesn’t leave your skin greasy. Perfect for winter. Smells like hot cider, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg.

It’s basically a hug in a jar. My nose picks up the apple cider and nutmeg the most, with a hint of clove.

The consistency is thick but airy at the same time and it melts so nicely. I used it on my legs after shaving and WOW they felt incredible.

ingredients: Cocoa butter, btms 50, Distilled water, vegetable glycerin, fragrance oil, Germall plus liquid preservative, freshly grated cinnamon stick

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 50

Top Shelf Lacquer | Old Man Winter

Inspiration: Inspired by Old Man Winter

Description: Old Man Winter is a blue jelly like base, with blue sparkling glass fleck, linear holo and shifts of blue, purple, red, and green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 350

QDTC by Top Shelf Lacquer | Winter Sparkles

Inspiration: inspired by the frozen twinkling branches in winter time in my area of the country (midwest / Cincinnati).

Description: Winter Sparkles is an actual glitter top coat, not a topper. It’s a quick dry top coat with copper holographic microglitters suspended within. You can use it to top your mani and go without need for another top coat layer.

This is fun and fast drying, but I don’t find it as glossy when dried down as a normal quick dry, I’m guessing due to the pigment/glitter mixed in. But it still works incredibly well.

Price: $9.00 | Cap: 300

Turtle Tootsie Polishes | Purple Cozy Blanket

Inspiration: A Cozy Blanket

Description: Purple Cozy Blanket is a deep dark purple linear holographic polish with pink, green and gold shimmers and black holo micro glitter. It’s leaning more cool toned in my photos than it is in person. Lean it a little more warmer purple. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: 200

4-1 Nail Serum By Vanessa Molina

Inspiration: Winter

Description: This is a 4-in-1 Nail Serum that is made to strengths nails, nourishes nails and cuticles, cleanse and protects hands.

One thing that surprised me, is that this is a spray. Not a pump or wand. It sprays onto your nails. You do need to use quick bursts when pumping the nozzle to avoid a stream (that looks dirtier written out than I intended) so you get the spray on your nails and cuticles. It’s not a heavy serum, so it soaks in quick. It does have a floral like, slightly perfumy scent to it.

I’ve only been using it for a week, so I can’t say whether it’s helping or not. I haven’t had any bad reactions to it and my nails and cuticles look good still after over 100 swatches done in 3 days – so that’s good, right?

Price: $8.50 | Cap: 100

Vapid. | Doing Yeti Things (Thermal)

Inspiration:

Description: Doin’ Yeti Things is a thermal that transitions from a pale blue tinged grey (warm) to medium almost turquoise blue (cold) with green to pink to gold shifting shimmer and a bit of scattered holo. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300

Polish Pickup December 2019 | Winter Is Coming

It is so satisfying to see a post come together and know you’re about to hit publish and 2-3 weeks of rush rush rush is just… visually complete. It always amazes me.

This month we see a lot of cool tones and holy crap the thermals. I do love thermals… but I was sick recently and trying to do thermals with a fever is incredibly frustrating. I still got it done though- so.. ha!

January shades are already rolling in, so we’ll rinse and repeat soon :)

Top 1? That’s impossible for me to say. Hmmm Quixotic… usually Femme Fatale too.
How about top 3 thermals? There’s a lot to pick from from and it’s like I can’t say no! Ok so, top 3 are Heathers Hues – Hotel of Ice, lucky 13 – Nuclear Winter Wonderland, and I think My Indie polish just took the lead with her duo. I can’t wait to use that topper over her crelly. I’m in so much trouble this month. Necessary Evil, Colores de Carol, Baroness X, Vapid… did I mention I love multichromish shifty stuff too? Excuse me while I post my kidney up on Etsy. I mean it is technically homemade

Elizabeth,
my sentiment exactly. I quite like the song, but my family in California hates Christmas music with such passion that it is as if this polish was designed for them. But it is I who likes the actual polish! I’ll take the polish, theu can get the idea ;-)

Reply
Olga Custer November 30, 2019 - 3:25 pm

My #1 nail polish is from Quixotic. In fact, I am a little bit obsessed with it!
As for nail products, I have some oils in my cart. After reading this post I added whipped butter. But again, my number 1 is the cuticle duo from Glisten and Glow. I swear by their cuticle remover pens; I haven’t tried the oil yet and am very curious. I can be picky about the smells, but you never know until you try, and I loved their apple scent from one of the previous PPUs.
