Polish Pickup August 2025 | Time Travel

The time is just flying by and wow! It’s almost August! Today we’re going to be looking at the items I received for the August 2025 Polish Pickup shop – and this months theme is Time Travel!

We have 58 items to check out this month, so it’s a pretty large feature!

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used a clear latex peel off base, and for the glossy photos I did Monarch Lacquer Hi-Def Shine Top coat (sent as PR and I’ve also purchased.. and that’s an affiliate link).  For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Monarch Lacquer top coat over it. 

For my lighting setup, since I use artificial lighting due to my day job, involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

And lastly – I do use artificial gel nails that I do myself at home. In this post (and video) I am using Apres Gel X Nails in Extra Short Stiletto, which are clear nails. I do not use blurring base coats or anything to increase opacity of the nails – and it shows during my YouTube videos especially. With the clear nails, if you can see through the tip still – then odds are you will also see VNL through the polish I have on. If you cannot see through them, then opacity was likely reached.

For my camera, I use a Nikon z30 which is still semi new to me so some kinks are still being worked out. If I see any discrepancies in real life and my photos – I will mention it.

1422 Designs | New Money, Old Rules

Inspiration: An image of two characters (specifically their dresses) from the TV show, The Gilded Age.

Description: New Money, Old Rules is a mulberry jelly base with a teal-blue-purple shimmer and holo flakes.

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy and matte top coat for these photos.

This shade is slightly pinker in person, my camera seems like it picked up a bit more of the blue tone.

Cuticle Oil by BCB Lacquers | Jubblies

Inspiration: The movie- Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me 

Description: A 6ml Click Pen cuticle oil in the scent Jubblies, which has notes of: Woods, Bergamot, Pine, Sage, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Juniper Berry, Citrus and Moss.

To my nose this is very earthy and unisex that leans slightly more into masculine.

Beaux Rêves Lacquer | Déjà Blue

Inspiration: Traveling back in time to 1996! Inspired by the groundbreaking (at the time) nail polish shade Ciel de Nuit by Chanel.

Description: Déjà Blue is a midnight blue base with a shimmer that shifts navy to violet filled with holo pigment, holo sparkle and reflective glitter

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy and matte top coat for these photos.

This polish is a bit on the thick side, but not overly so that its difficult to work with. The consistency is just a little thicker than most Beaux Reves tend to be.

Chamaeleon Nails | Primeval Garden

Inspiration: Inspired by the series Terra Nova.

Description: Primeval Garden is a bright, slightly cool toned neon green jelly base with iridescent flakes shifting pink/orange/green, a scattering of tiny silver holographic glitters and a very soft shimmer. This has a strong yellow-green glow in the dark effect.

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy and matte top coat for these photos.

The formula is slightly thicker on this shade, but still easy to work with.

Inspiration: “Trapped In Time” inspired by the Elephant Mosquito (Mosquito in the Amber) from Jurassic Park.

Description: Trapped in Time is a blackened orange base packed with holo flakes with a fiery orange/gold /green magnetic effect. 

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I used a velvet magnet on index and pinky, catseye magnet on middle and ring nail and thumb is unmagnetized.

I did experience staining with this polish, even with base coat.

Inspiration: I really miss the Eras Tour era, and this polish was inspired by Taylor Swift’s final Eras tour curtain call outfit.

Description: Ticket Time Machine is a blackened burgundy base with burgundy leaning pink to gold magnetic pigment and blue microflake shimmer.

The magnetic hit more on the subtle side for this shade.

Inspiration: Inspired by a painting of the wardrobe that leads Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy to enter Narnia for the first time.
Chronicles of Narnia is not just a time-traveling story but also a new world-traveling story. It is my favorite book of all time.

It works by filling in all the nooks and crannies without “sinking” in like top coat usually does.

Hit the Bottle | Rose Ash Undies Peel Off Basecoat

Inspiration: Inspired by requests for a VNL blurring, peel off base coat.

Description: Rose Ash Undies is a water based peel off base coat with the same type of formula as Keepin’ It Peel, but it’s tinted in a dusty blush rose.

I used 2 thin coats over clear gel x nails, and the final photo shows it used under a sheerer shimmer shade (Royla Lee’s Echoes of the Stars – also available this month)

The maker did say she would be tinting this a bit more to make it more opaque, however the formula would remain the same as what swatchers received.

Jior Couture | Garden of the Galaxy

Inspiration: “Garden of the Galaxy” is the sister polish (Get it, sister? ha) to our April 2018 PPU polish “Gamora Doesn’t Dance”. Nebula from the Guardian of the Galaxy is the inspiration, as she’s travel through time and space. In the trailer for Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Nebula says to Gamora in a mocking tone, “Look at you. A Garden of the Galaxy.” to which Gamora annoyingly replies, “It’s Guardian of the Galaxy. Why would I be a garden?” They have/had a complicated relationship, but in the end they love each other as true sisters.

Description: Garden of the Galaxy is a tri thermal that shifts from blue to indigo to rose pink with metallic holo glitters and gold-copper aurora shift.

But not all of us had the threat of failing history class, and the future of a utopian society depending on it! Add in one phone booth, two dim-witted high school students, and a guide from the future, and you get what can only be described as an excellent adventure.

KBShimmer | Fillin’ Groovy Ridge Filling Base Coat

Inspiration:

Description: First off… I know. I don’t have ridges – I have smooth af fake gel nails without a single ridge anywhere in sight.

Hear me out though. I obviously don’t wear shades like this for a ridge reduced/free look – I wear it for a sheerish wash of color that I love as a base for stamping or for water slide decals. Or if I want to wear a palate cleanser polish – this is it. It also is a good base coat whether you have ridges or not.

If you have ridges and want a nice base or palate cleanser – here you go.

About the item though – Every polish wearer needs a good base coat. Fillin’ Groovy is a base coat that acts like double-sided sticky tape. It helps to create a long-lasting bond between the nail and polish while filling ridges for smooth application. It also helps prevent staining.
