Polish Pickup August 2023 | Dreamscapes

Happy Saturday! I feel like so much has happened since the last Polish Pickup post – big blog sale, Polish & Beauty Expo… lots of releases.. but we’re back and it’s time for the Polish Pickup August 2023 shop… and the theme this month is Dreamscapes!
Probably the #1 thing I saw when Dreamscapes was announced as the August theme was… “What is a Dreamscape?” so for those not in the ppu group or that simply aren’t sure – Dreamscape is a landscape or scene with the strangeness or mystery characteristic of dreams. When items started rolling in, I fell in love! They are mostly shifty and shimmery and it’s very much what I thought this theme would be.
This month I have 54 items to share. You can check all 54 out on my YouTube channel as well:
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Glisten & Glow Top Coat which is available in this month’s shop (sent as PR). For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (previous PR) and Glisten & Glow top coat over it.
For my lighting set up I use artificial lighting due to my day job, my set up involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).
For my nails – they are Apres Gel X nails throughout this post, and the style is Extra Short Stiletto.
Wishlisting will start on Sunday, July 30th (no set time, just whenever it’s ready) and the shop will open on August 4th at 11am Eastern.

Inspiration: Inspired by a dreamy silhouette of a girl sitting on a swing looking into a nebulous night sky filled with shades of pink, blues and purples.
Description: Dream A Little Dream is a periwinkle crelly base with pink to orange to gold shifting iridescent flakes and subtle sprinkle of corresponding shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

ATOMIC POLISH | STRANGE THE DREAMER (Paid PR)
Inspiration: Inspired by One of the most beautifully written and narrated books that I have listened to, Strange the Dreamer.
Description: Strange the Dreamer is a bright aqua creme base with aurora pigment that shifts gold to aqua. Naturally this dries down to a satin finish, but I used a glossy top coat for these photos.

BARONESS X | EMERALD TRIANGLE XPRESS DRYING DROPS
Inspiration: Inspired by the Emerald Triangle in Northern California.
Description: This product contains ingredients that bond with the solvents in nail polish to help them evaporate faster, namely disiloxane. This is the ingredient that evaporates and bonds with solvents the fastest of all the silicones in drying products. Drying products that do not contain this ingredient, won’t dry your nails nearly as quickly as Xpress Drying Spray. Baroness X also added camellia and jojoba oil to help hydrate skin and cuticles at the same time as drying.
Simply apply 1-2 drops over each nail to speed the outer layer for drying. Be sure to do this as the FINAL step – not between layers. Do this once the mani is done.
This month’s scent is Emerald Triangle and it’s described as exotic woods and seductive amber with hemp smoke in a euphoric and psychedelic trip to a rich foreign land.
Notes are: Top: Cantaloupe, Marijuana Leaf
Heart: Marijuana, Hemp Seeds
Base: Musk, Amber, Eastern Cedar
This is actually a really interesting scent. It’s complex and I pick up a mix of amber and fresh marijuana plant first and a touch a cedar and musk. I don’t detect cantaloupe directly – but I’m assuming thats where the slight sweet note is coming from. This doesn’t smell like straight up marijuana to me, but I do feel like this is a scented product I could pick up back home in Berkeley, CA.

Inspiration: Inspired by technicolored lucid dreams.
Description: Rollin’ With My Chrome-ies is a sky blue jelly base loaded with a rainbow mix of large particle shifting shimmers that give it a shimmery chrome finish. The rainbow mix primarily shifts pink to gold to green for me. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Inspiration: Secret Garden
Description: Secret Garden is a jelly based thermal that goes from deep green (cold) to teal (warm) with gold to green large particle aurora shimmer and yellow irregular glitters mixed in. I used 3 thin coats, glitter smoother and top coat for these photos.
The glitters in this polish require some manipulation. I found they liked to hug it out and stick together. Because of this it’s also fairly textured, especially in spots that they stuck together.

Inspiration: Ever since the owner, Jill was little she has always had the same recurring dream of dark clouds in the sky, rain pouring down with rays of light peaking through in various colors. My Mom would always tell me, Don’t worry hunny, they are just tears from heaven from the loved ones who have passed on. I created Tears from Heaven in memory to all of those who have lost a loved one.

Description: Glisten & Glow top coat is perfect for nail art and stamping and is a long lasting glassy quick dry top coat. I’ve been using the top coat for 8 years now and it’s never failed me. It dries fast, has a very glossy, high shine and floats well over nail art.
This top coats dries fast (about 4 minutes on me) and glows under blacklight. Also pairs beautifully with G&G Glitter Grabber if you picked that up in previous shops.

Description: First off… YUM. This is already in my top 3 favorite KBShimmer scents.
KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.
Pistachio Macaron Hand & Body Scrub starts with the tempting aroma of pistachio nuts and heady almonds, giving a cherry-like fragrance. Sweet notes of honey give way to rich, creamy vanilla, while slightly floral heliotrope amps up the almond notes of this sweet scent.
My nose immediately picks up the pistachio and almond scent and it’s scrumptious. I keep sniffing it. It has a very rich scent and the floral notes are incredibly light and just adds to the sweetness vs an actual musky like floral. It’s a great combo and I will be getting a backup of this one.

UNICORN MAGIC SKINCARE | DELUXE CUTICLE BALM SCENTED IN ISLAND DREAMS
Inspiration: Inspired by A beautiful island dreamscape
Description: This is a cuticle balm (which I find more hydrating for me than creams) that is made with local beeswax from the famous Hollywood Farmers Market, as well as oils that help nourish and soften your cuticles.
This stuff is magical in the Winter/cooler months. Perfect also for rough spots like elbows and knees, beards and hair ends, or anywhere that needs a little extra TLC. As with most anhydrous (oil only) products, a little goes a long way.
Island Dreams – A tropical blend of juicy peaches, papaya, exotic dragon fruit and fresh island pineapple and nutty notes of almond, combined with fresh coconut husk and ginger.
This is a lighter scent and is quiet pleasant. I can pick up the tropical fruit blend and then the touch of almond to bring down the sweetness.

VAPID LACQUER | NAIL ELIXIR IN MARTIAN PARADISE (Paid PR)

Description: This Elixir is Vapid’s blend of oils that come together to create a truly one of a kind nail and cuticle oil. It has weight to the oil itself, it’s enough to truly hydrate the toughest of cuticles and driest of nails while still being able to soak effortlessly into the skin. Once absorbed it’s not greasy and can be rubbed all over the hand for moisture.
This oil contains tamanu oil, a viscus oil that has a light brown sugar scent, this does come through in the scent straight from the bottle. Once it dries down, you will only smell the fragrance left behind. Vapid’s elixir is also heavy in Jojoba oil allowing it to soak into the nail on a molecular level, as jojoba oil is able to easily penetrate the nail and provide and carry other nutrients with it.

Martian Paradise is a fruity and clean scent that hovers somewhere in the atmosphere. Cucumber and mint orbit around red hibiscus and juicy guava’s planetary vibe. An absolutely unique and delicious scent.
My nose picks up the cucumber and guava primarily – but cucumber is the strongest scent. This is a really nice, clean scent with a little kick. I honestly don’t detect much mint in it at all – almost a slight fresh mint leaf type scent? But the cucumber is top.

Description: Neverending Dreamer is a deeper denim blue with a slight purple flash, with blue to violet shifting shimmer, reflective glitters, blue to violet to purple to pink to green to gold ultrachrome chameleon flakes and a slight sprinkling of micro holo flakes. All this is a green glow in the dark base! I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I’m eyeing Ethereal’s Latte Cloud. I missed out on Coffee Cloud because I discovered PPU a month after it came out. I’m glad it was actually the start of a series so I’ll be able to catch the next ones that come out.
The True Crime & Nail Polish tumbler is super cute! I totally would’ve bought one if it came in pretty & bright colors. Or maybe at least a normal-shaped tumbler, not the weird ring one.

Thanks for continuing to do this blog. Your photos are great. It’s nice to have most of the polishes in one spot to reference. You Tube is useful for seeing application. But something about the hand movements bothers my eyes. I can’t focus well on the polish in those parts of the video.
