Happy Saturday… almost Sunday. It’s late and I’m hoping I finish this post up before I head to bed. I have my big post for Polish Pickup ready, and for April 2022 the theme is Periodic Table!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks – so I’ve been hauling butt to swatch and keep up and I’m not doing too bad at it. This week I turned 40, and since I had my 10 year Blog Anniversary in late December – that means I officially blogged my way through my 30’s.

Pretty sure I just heard my son squawk upstairs…

Anyways. April brings us a theme I’ve wanted for awhile! Periodic Table! This means Periodic Table of Elements and makers can create what they wish and tie it into the theme however they see fit.

I am still waiting on a couple items (surprise surprise) I always feel like 2 items are on the way, just 2. Otherwise – I currently have 75 items to share.

This is also Polish Pickup’s 5 year anniversary! So makers that are still in PPU that were involved in the very first Polish Pickup shop in 2017 were invited to recreate their first polish as well as their April shade! That’s why you will see 2 shades from some makers.

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did use a combination of the top coats including Vibrant Vinyls which was sent as PR this month, and Night Owl Lacquer’s Patience Not Required, as well as Anchor & Heart Sea Glass. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues and the top coats were sent as pr or as gifts.

Also – i got my periodic table prop on .. Zazzle I think. We can never redo this theme or I’ll have to duct tape over the month and year.

I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I work during the day and weekend afternoons I’m with Nick and Jacob, so I do most swatching when the sun is setting or gone. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

For reflective polish photos – I only used my camera flash. It was taken in low light with a my camera (Nikon Coolpix L830)

For Glow In The Dark and Solar polishes I used this UV flashlight to “charge” my nails for photos.

My nails are not my natural nails – I’m using ENailCouture Full Coverage Gel Nail Tips in Active Almond shape.

Wish-listing opens tomorrow (Sunday… in case I post this after midnight) so let’s get this going.

BARONESS X | XPRESS DRYING DROPS IN MIXED ROCK CANDY

Inspiration: Inspired by the little chemist sets for kids, which always includes a little glass dropper. The scent is inspired by the science kits for growing your own crystals.

Description: Xpress Drying Drops scented in a house blend, Mixed Rock Candy (hard candy scents in watermelon, apple, peach & passionfruit).

This product contains ingredients that bond with the solvents in nail polish to help them evaporate faster, namely disiloxane. This is the ingredient that evaporates and bonds with solvents the fastest of all the silicones in drying products. Drying products that do not contain this ingredient, won’t dry your nails nearly as quickly as Xpress Drying Spray. Baroness X also added camellia and jojoba oil to help hydrate skin and cuticles at the same time as drying.

Simply apply 1-2 drops over each nail to speed the outer layer for drying.  Be sure to do this as the FINAL step – not between layers. Do this once the mani is done.

No need for rushing! Just apply the magnetic polish as a regular one and let it dry. Then apply a generous coat of this top coat on one nail and use the magnet over it (repeat in the other nails). I painted 3 thin coats of the Bee’s Knees Lacquer Demeter as regular polish – no magnet used during the 3 thin coats) then I used this top coat, and after each nail I used a magnet. I got nice circles from it and it was a lot less work than usual.

“I wanted to represent our Black culture and I wanted to represent all the amazing people in this project,” Dana said.

Sweet Sangria is a sweet, fruity blend as refreshing as a glass of sangria loaded with seasonal produce. Sweet grape notes are brightened by a hint of tart berry. Deep wine notes amplify hints of orange, black plum, and pineapple for a blend that will have you envisioning relaxing days laughing with family and friends.

My nose primarily picks up grape juice and plum… and it almost seems like a hint of plumeria but this doesn’t have floral notes. It’s semi sweet but not tooth aching sweet. I wouldn’t mind having a body wash in this scent as well… and a lotion.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

This smells so good.

Fizzy Salty Bath Milk is a luxurious bath soak to help relax you. All you need to do is sprinkle in the desired amount and then lay back and relax. It can make your tub a little slippery – so be careful, especially if you don’t have those slip proof mats.

Description: Elementary My Dear is a black jelly base with gold to pink to green to purple 5D magnetic multi chrome pigment with blue to purple to pink shifting chameleon flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I only magnetized the center 2 nails so you can see the polish both ways.

Price: $ 13.00| Cap: 300

SCOFFLAW VARNISH | PLUTONIUM MILK FOR MY ATOMIC KITTEN

Inspiration:

Description: Plutonium Milk for My Atomic Kitten is a milky crelly base with shifting lemon-lime shimmer and sparkles, holo flecks, and neon green matte micro-glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.75 | Cap: 126

STELLA CHROMA | THE HOLO-GENS

Inspiration: The halogens are a group of chemically related elements in the periodic table. I’ll not go into greater detail so I don’t put you to sleep.

Description: Holo-gens is a silver holographic base with metallic flakes in black, purple, and bright pink. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I don’t know why – but I get Vegas vibes from this polish.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

SWEET HEART POLISH | 83+🔥=🌈

Inspiration: Inspired by the 83rd element, Bismuth

Description: 83+🔥=🌈 is a micro glitter polish with gold, royal blue, fuchsia, emerald, copper, and rose gold glitters with a soft gold shimmer. I used 3 thin coats, a glitter smoothing topper (Glisten & Glow) and a thin coat of top coat for these photos.

Price: $10.50 | Cap: None

THE CRAFTY TACO | BI HAND NAIL ART MAGNET

Inspiration: Inspired by Bismuth (Bi)

Description: This piece features a small neodymium round magnet attached to a black painted wooden hexagon, with a cabochon painted with a magnetic polish. The magnet on the cab itself proves to be a bit slippery, so the hexagon helps with a nice grip to hold the magnet over the nail. It creates a circular design on the nail and is quite strong.

When not in use – it looks like a decorative piece to attach to a helmer or fridge.

The polish used is Bee’s Knees Lacquer Demeter

Price: $7.00 | Cap: 50

THE SOAPY CHEF | LIFE BEGINS AFTER COFFEE CUTICLE SCRUB

Inspiration: Inspired by a cute image with Co F Fe “The Only Elements I need”

Description: This gentle cuticle scrub and balm is made with a blend of oils and butters, as well as granulated sugar that buffs away dead skin around the cuticles and nail beds. Simply rub the scrub into nails and cuticles in a circular motion then wash off excess with warm water.

This smells so yummy – I am a huge coffee lover and this made me leave my house to grab an iced coffee at Dunkin’

Scent notes: Kona coffee, citron peel, caramel, dark chocolate, sugar cane, rich sweet cream, vanilla, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies

Price: $8.50 | Cap: None

TREO LACQUER | NEODYMIUM (Magnetic)

Inspiration: When I realized that Neodymium is an element I thought to myself, “I have to make a magnetic polish inspired by Neodymium!” We all love those strong magnets to make our magnetics look their best.

Description: Neodymium is a black jelly with purple magnetic pigment, as well as aurora shimmer that shifts green to berry pink to purple. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 160

UNICORN MAGIC SKINCARE | NEPTUN~IUM HAND CREME

Inspiration: Inspired by Neptunium and Neptune the god of water

Description: Coconut milk is also packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamin C, which is known to brighten skin and increase elasticity. Along with quality skin loving oils and butters, this makes coconut milk the perfect option to include in our creamy coconut milk hand creme. This creme has a more fluid consistency than Unicorn Magic Skin Care’s Deluxe Triple Butter Hand Lotion, but is still rich, nourishing and moisturizing.

This isn’t as stiff as the Deluxe Triple Butter, but I do find it really good to use at work and such because it does soak in quick and has a creamier consistency.

Neptun~ium: top notes of sea salt, ocean mist and aquatic florals blend with base notes of sea greenery, fresh air, soft musk and sandalwood.

This sea salt and soft musk are the notes that pop out to my nose. This is a cleaner, relaxing scent that is beachy.

Price: $8.50 | Cap: 200

UNICORN MAGIC SKINCARE | PLUTO~NIUM ACETONE ADDITIVE

Inspiration:

Description: The use of acetone can wreak havoc on nails and surrounding skin, leaving those unsightly dry white marks. The use of acetone additive will help diminish the stripping of natural oils from your hands & nails, helping them look healthy and beautiful. Contains skin loving oils such as jojoba & argan oil for maximum benefit.

This acetone additive is in a plastic bottle that you squeeze to dispense. Shake before using, add the desired amount and give the acetone a shake then use.

I do suggest adding a little, testing it to see if it needs more, then add more. I usually add 1/4-1/3 of the 1 ounce bottle to a 10 oz amount of remover (I used zoya remove+)

Pluto ~ nium – Floral top notes blend with orange blossom and hints of spearmint and are then laid down on a bed of musk and patchouli. This inspired by Supernova by Lush.

Price: $5.50 | Cap: 150

VAPID WAX | SMELLEMINT WAX

Inspiration: Inspired by Costa and her “Periodic Table of Smellements”

Description: This is a home fragrance wax melt with notes of: Fresh picked spearmint, ginger and a hint of vanilla.

Okay bear with me a moment.

On dry sniff, this straight up smells (to me) like someone tried making a cupcake flavored soda. The ginger and spearmint almost gave it that effervescent zing, and I was like “What the hell is Jenn doing…”

So obviously I melted it.

When melted it actually smells really nice and refreshing and it’s more of a vanilla spearmint with the slight ginger kick.

The cupcake soda had me worried though initially.

**My clam shell says 2.75 oz. but it’s actually 3 oz**

Price: $6.00 | Cap: None

VIBRANT VINYLS | NEON DREAMS – SCENTED DOUBLE BOND BASE COAT

Inspiration: Inspired by the element on Neon

Description: Double Bond is a ridge filling base coat and sticky base coat in 1. Best of both worlds. I also sometimes like wearing it alone cause it gives a healthy, sheer, milky look to the nails.

‘Neon Dreams’
Let this island blend of juicy mango and fruity papaya light up your life with neon dreams of a tropical drink on a sandy beach.

This is a really nice tropical scent. When dry I get more citrusy scents – like orange and pineapple. This is a medium strength scent and one of my new favorites from April.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

VIBRANT VINYLS | NEON DREAMS – SCENTED FAST & HARD QUICK DRY TOP COAT

Inspiration: Inspired by the element on Neon

Description: Fast & Hard is a super glossy quick dry top coat that can be applied over wet polish without issue. It also works over stamping, just make sure you float the top coat!

WHAT ADDICTION | STEEL LOVIN’ HUE

Inspiration: Inspired by the St. John’s bridge in Portland, OR. Using the elements of iron and carbon which creates steel.

Description: Steel Lovin’ Hue is a turquoise leaning teal crelly with holo micro flakies, aurora shimmer and red gold flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is actually my top pick for the month.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 100

Wildflower stolen flame, Penelope Luz Osmium and Pahlish Neon grabbed me even tho I was trying for a no buy this month!! But man now that I’ve seen your post I’m looking awfully hard at that atomic polish as well!

Ethereal Lacquer’s beautiful blue is lovely.

Reply
Cherie B March 28, 2022 - 10:25 pm

WHAT ADDICTION?’s Still Lovin’ Hue. Even though they’re basing it on steel, It makes me think of copper’s turquoise patina with some of the shiny copper glistening through

Reply
Wendy Stewart March 28, 2022 - 11:46 pm

That neon yellow from Pahlish is fantastic. I’m going to have to get that one.

Reply

Dreamland’s “ Czech This Out” is my number one pick this month. Closely followed by the Wildflower Polish. I’m really loving reflective glitters lately and have always been a HUGE lover of purple polishes so the Dreamland has my name written all over it. Also, that shade of lilac is just… *chef’s kiss*!

Reply
Rebecca S March 30, 2022 - 3:38 am

After looking at the shop, I think my new favorite is the Great Lakes Lacquer. It’s so shifty and gorgeous!

Reply
C March 30, 2022 - 8:33 am

Wildflower is stunning!!

Reply
Cherie B March 30, 2022 - 8:50 am

Cameo Colours is stunning. BUT, due to it’s name, I will NOT purchase it. My 6 year old granddaughter know the brands, color names and finishes of all her mom’s 500+ polishes and my almost 200. I would like to see PPU not allow innuendos or down right foul language in the polishes that are offered.

Reply
Ash Elizabeth March 30, 2022 - 11:46 am

I’ll definitely be getting Osmium by Penelope Luz, it’s so sparkly and I love the reflective glitters!

Reply
Sandi Margolis March 30, 2022 - 12:25 pm

Cat Tail’s Phos-4-us! and the chemical formula bag are two must haves for me this month.

Reply
