Mental Health Awareness Collection

I’m home from work and ready to do my second post of the day… the Glisten & Glow Mental Health Awareness Collection post!

Mental Health Awareness is incredibly important. Breaking the stigma is important. While I personally don’t have any known mental health disorders, many people in my life do. I have seen it. I can’t pretend to know how it feels. I have some depression and anxiety, but not of the debilitating nature.

A good friend in high school suffered from depression. He took his life shortly after graduation. No one knew he was suffering, no one had an any clue. He was the class clown with great grades and got along with everyone. He could float between different groups and fit in anywhere. He knew where he’d be going to college, he had everything mapped out… and then he was gone.

My son’s father is bipolar, and when Jacob was very young I had to explain to him that his fathers outbursts or the days he had zero motivation to get out of bed, that those things had nothing to do with Jacob.

I’m not going to delve too deep into that because it’s just… a lot emotionally to replay some of the instances in my head and it’s not entirely my story to tell. My son’s father has made great strides to work on himself and be the best father he can be. That’s all I can ask of him.

My son learned about the importance of mental health at a very young age and that it’s okay to seek help and to lean on people.

I’m incredibly proud of those that are able to speak openly and help others realize that it’s okay to talk about it. My heart breaks for those that are shamed into keeping quiet or close off thinking no one cares or wants to hear about it.

Glisten & Glow has created this collection and $1.00 from every polish sold will be donated to Mental Health America

Let’s take a look.

Glisten & Glow | Suicide Awareness

Suicide Awareness is a slightly dusty yellow jelly base with blue to purple chrome flakes, as well as rainbow color shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Glisten & Glow | Break The Stigma

Break The Stigma is a red leaning pink jelly base with orange to red to green and green to purple color shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Glisten & Glow | PTSD & Anxiety

PTSD & Anxiety is a teal jelly base with blue to purple shifting shimmer. This is sheer enough to wear as a topper, but offers enough opacity to build up to a stand alone polish. I show it below both alone (index and pinky) as well as over black (middle and ring)

Alone is 3 thin coats, over black is 1 coat.

Glisten & Glow | Bipolar & Depression

Bipolar & Depression is a lime green jelly base with green to gold color shifting shimmer, as well as green to purple color shifting iridescent flakes and a subtle sprinkling of holo. This is sheer enough to wear as a topper, but offers enough opacity to build up to a stand alone polish. I show it below both alone (index and pinky) as well as over black (middle and ring)

Alone is 3 thin coats, over black is 1 coat.

Glisten & Glow | Mental Health Awareness Collection

I was happy to see Jill take on this topic within a collection. I have actually confided in her some of my struggles with Jacob and his father over the years and how I get lost sometimes. I know things aren’t on completely on Jacob’s father and some things he’s trying the best he can and I’m thankful he’s still around to talk with his son (we’re in different states, but we’re planning for him to come up to see Jacob this Summer)

Much like most charity sets, I did make a donation myself. I donated $50 to Mental Health America
