Press Samples for April 2019
Polish Pickup | Famous Works of Art

This month has been an incredibly stressful month, and I almost thought this April 2019 Polish Pickup Famous Works of Art post would be right up against the deadline, but somehow I pulled through.

Of the 18 tax seasons I’ve been through (12 with my current employer) this has been the most stressful. This isn’t entirely due to tax season itself though. With Polish Pickup, Polish Con coming up, Tax Season and 7th grade projects that were due this month, I was totally freaking out that things would slip.

So far though, I’ve been working lots of overtime (only Sundays off so far this month..) we’ve successfully completed 5 large projects for Jacob, and while my swatching is a bit behind – overall I am doing an okay job of keeping up with that. 2 more weeks though and we’re home free and back to a normal schedule. Not to say the next 2 weeks won’t be even more brutal. Between tomorrow and April 13th, I won’t have a single day off.

Anyways – that’s why I’m a little more quiet than normal, but I do have the April 2019 Polish Pickup goodies to share. I did 90% of these photos in a single day.

I have 57 items to share this month and this is a mix of Polish Pickup and Indie Pickup, but since it’s all on the same site again at the same time, I just label the whole whopper Polish Pickup. 7 of these are from the Indie Pickup section and 50 are from Polish Pickup.

As usual, if there’s a particular polish you came to look at and don’t want to scroll through everything – hit CTRL + F if you are on desktop and search the brand name.

Let’s get this show on the road.

Alter Ego Nail Enamel | Vega 200 Vasarely 1968

Inspiration:
Op artist Victor Vasarely, considered one of the founding fathers of Op Art

Description: Vega 200 Vasarely 1968 is a slightly green crelly base with metallic red and metallic blue flakes. Some flakes go wayward, but it was easy to either brush them off the nail or rotate them to behave. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $8.50 | No Cap

Aurora 5-Free Nail Lacquer | The Quill Of The Cock

Inspiration:
Girl with Peacock Earrings portrait by paper artist Yulia Brodskaya

Description: The Quill Of The Cock is a clear base loaded with rainbow flakes. I used 3 thin coats alone for these photos. It can be used over a creme base as well.

Baroness X | Acetone Antidote in Almond Orange Spire

Inspiration:
The fruit spires on Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. These jewel-like spires are decorated with colorful mosaic fruits, made of sparking Venetian glass. They represent fruits for each season of the year – peaches, cherries, figs, pomegranates, almonds, oranges, etc.

Description: This acetone additive is a creamy orange with a hint of almond. It’s very smooth so you don’t get that tart orange scent, but more of a smooth dessert like orange. Think creamsicle, but instead of vanilla – the additional scent is almond.

Recommended Use:  Add the entire vial to 6-8oz of acetone. You can add more or less, these are just suggestions for optimal scent and protection from acetone. Once the AA is added to your acetone just shake the bottle once to mix it each time you change polish. There’s no need to keep shaking during the removal of a full mani with our formulation, it will stay blended long enough to remove your polish.

Fat Cat Pawlished |Raise An Eyebrow Room/Linen Refresher Spray

Inspiration:
Frida Kahlo Self- Portrait

Description: Raise An Eyebrow scent was inspired by Frida Kahlo. Outdrinking men in tequila contests, flowers in her hair and a cigarette in her hand. This Room/Linen Refresher Spray has a mix of notes like tequila con limon, marigold, greenery and a twist of tobacco. My nose personally picks up the marigold and tobacco mostly. It’s an interesting combo, and while at first I raised an eyebrow to it… my car currently has this scent in it and I quite like it.

Linen Use: Spray items from 6 inches away to freshen between laundering. Safe for most fabrics and furnishings. Spot Check if item is prone to staining.
For Room Use: Spray upwards 12 inches away in air and avert your eyes! Sniff and enjoy. 3 pumps is ideal. These are body-safe fragrance oils and can be used as a body mist if you’re feeling a little peculiar like Frida!

GALATEA Cosmetics | Foaming Bath Crush

Inspiration:
The illustration of Waterfall City, from the book Dinotopia, by James Gurney

Description: GALATEA Foaming Bath Crush is an aquatic type scent with hints of florals and spice. Primary notes are bergamot, coriander, hyacinth, tonka and clear cool water. It turns the water a rich shade of blue-green, has a decent foaming amount (not as much as a bubble bath, but a good amount) and it’s in a crushed powder form – so you can scoop or pour out as much as you wish.

I haven’t had the chance to soak in this yet. I tested it in the sink and the aroma filled our bathroom and lingered for quite awhile.

For maximum bubbles, toss as much bath crush as you like under running water as your tub begins to fill – or, for softer, creamier foam (and to get that traditional bath bomb fizz!) scatter it on the surface of the water when the tub is full.

Our formula contains skin-softening and moisturizing ingredients, and leaves your skin feeling wonderful. It will not stain your tub or make it slippery. We use only phlalate-free, vegan and cruelty-free ingredients.

Our bath crush was designed for sensitive skin – but if irritation occurs, please discontinue use immediately. Keep out of reach of children except under adult supervision.

Price: $9.00 | Cap: 25

Inspiration:
“Water makes me happy. From the lakes of Minnesota and Wisconsin where I grew up, to the oceans and seas I’ve come to cherish through my travels, it’s no surprise that when searching for artwork to inspire April’s PPU shade, I was drawn to, “The Ninth Wave,” a painting by Ivan Aivazovsky. This painting depicts a raging sea, with a legendarily powerful and destructive “ninth wave” approaching shipwreck survivors clinging to the cross-like mast of a ship’s wreckage. The warm tones and dawn’s breaking light give us hope that man will overcome, in spite of the wave’s potential for destruction.”

Stella Chroma | Emulsified Sugar Scrub in Beachwood Vetiver

Salvador Dali’s Swans Reflecting Elephants

Description: Since Stella Chroma was running behind on time – I was scent a small vial of the fragrance so I could do this review. I own at least 20 jars of her Emulsified Sugar Scrub and am well aware it’s incredible.

Beachwood Vetiver is a wonderful mix of jasmine and coconut with carnation, vetiver and a touch of eucalyptus. Now that I was given a small vial – I want a whole bottle of this scent. It’s intoxicating. The jasmine is the main scent I pickup, but it’s smoother and no as overpowering as a lot of jasmine fragrances I have. The eucalyptus mixes well with it and adds a nice bite to the fragrance. I’ll be picking up a jar of this for sure. It’s a scent that would turn heads.

This month we’re seeing a lot of purples with aqua shimmer as well as blues with shifty shimmer – and I’m here for it all.

I had no issues with application on these shades, and I did most of these swatches in a day due to my current schedule – and none gave me any complications.
