Little Box of Horrors January 2022 | The X Files

Press Samples

Well hello there… it’s time for the first Little Box of Horrors shop for 2022! The January theme is The X Files!

I admittedly didn’t watch much of The X Files. My older sister was VERY into the show and swore up and down she was gonna be David Duchovny’s future wife (and boy was she pissed when he married Téa Leoni!) Over the years it has been on my “need to watch” list and honestly some of these themed collabs and fandoms have kicked my butt into gear and watching stuff I’ve been wanting to for awhile.

Okay so a little about Little Box of Horrors… This will be a bi-monthly collaboration shop that will consist of 25-35 makers. Each bi-monthly shop will have either a horror, sci-fi, thriller, supernatural, paranormal, or mystery like theme – and the products will then be inspired by that theme.

The shop is already opened – it runs from the 18th to the 30th every other month… so there’s still 9 days to shop.

Let’s jump on in and take a look.

Apipila | X-Files Stamping Plate

Inspiration: X-Files

Description: Apipila brought it again with another stamping plate that perfectly nails the inspo. This is a 12×9 cm stainless steel stamping plate. I had no issues picking up images and the etching didn’t seem too shallow. Very fun to play with, and I’ll probably play with it more once I’ve binge watched the show.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 300

Black Dahlia Lacquer | Watching X-Files With No Lights On

Inspiration: We were inspired by the song One Week by The Barenaked Ladies.

For a brief second I forgot my 90’s songs and thought the inspo was The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang, but that was a different X-Files line.

Description: Watching X-Files With No Lights On is a smokey emerald green scattered holo loaded with violet to green to bluish grey shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.50 | Cap: None

Bonparsco | X-Files Luxury Cream Eyeshadow

Inspiration: The inspiration comes from the DVD cover of season 1.

Description: X-Files Luxury Cream Eyeshadow is a lightweight, non greasy formula of cream eyeshadow. This month’s is a blackened smokey blue shade.

I will admit, I rarely use dark colors on my lids. And I do have oily lids – so I shy away from creams. However, for cream shadows I do have to play around to find what works for me… so if you have oily lids like me – here’s what I need to do.

I tried with a typical primer and it had too much “slip” still and left a patchy look. I used Urban Decay Primer Potion. The more I tried to fix it, the oilier my lids got, and the more it slipped around. So I wiped it off and started again. This time I did a thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion, then once set I brushed on some setting powder (I used Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder) and then I dabbed the cream shadow on and it worked much better. Usually if I do use deeper shades, I lay down primer and then instead of translucent setting powder I used an eyeshadow powder that’s close in color so amplify the shade. However – for this review, I didn’t want to alter the color so I used translucent.

Overall – once I found what worked for me for a deeper cream shadow – it worked well. I’m not used to deep colors, so I do need some more finesse for it… but I still like the formula and performance… even for my oily lids.

Price: $8.50 | Cap: 15

Garden Path Lacquers | Trust No One

Inspiration: by fan art of the Cigarette Smoking Man

Description: Trust No One is a smokey purple crelly base with strong blue to aqua to purple shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: No Cap

Jen & Berries | Shock Through The Heart and You’re to Blame

Inspiration: The episode D.P.O., in which Giovanni Ribisi (swoon!) plays Darin Peter Oswald. D.P.O is a boy who survived being struck by lightning and gave him the ability to summon it, which he does to kill a friend after an argument about a video game.

Description: Shock Through The Heart and You’re To Blame is a blurpley violet jelly base with strong red to gold to green aurora shimmer and holographic microflakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 80

Luna Wax | Twins Wax Melt

Inspiration: Episode Eve in the first season of X-Files

Description: This is an 8 piece wax melt set and the pieces are perfect to just grab and pop into the melter. It’s scented like cola – and it smells exactly like cola gummy candy. I knew before I read the info what the scent profile was. But it literally is dead on gummy cola candies and now I want some.

I love this smell, but be sure you love sugary sweet cola (or it’s a great gift for a friend who loves them)

There are 6 red rectangles and then the 2 girls or “twins” which are cute but mildly creepy to look at. I’ll be honest – I can’t melt them because I have a weird thing about feeling like they will come back and haunt me if I do. So I’ll melt the rectangles and keep the twins for decoration… that way I don’t die by some supernatural force.

Price: $9.25 | Cap: 75

Luna Wax | Mr Chuckle Teeth Scoopable Wax

Inspiration: Episode Familiar which occurs late in the X-Files series which has a dummy antagonist who tries to lure children with fun and sweets!

Description: Mr Chuckle Teeth is… an interestingly sweet combo. This is a scoopable wax and has itty bitty wax beads along with larger solid shaped wax, and in this one you’ll find eyeballs, denture like gums and teeth and cupcakes and sweets under the face looking layer.

From this one – my nose picks up candy corn and cotton candy first. If someone said “Did you want some candy corn flavored cotton candy dunked in cola?” This is what I would imagine. Tooth achingly sweet. My son freaking thinks its the best scent ever made and it’s pretty much made up of all his main food groups according to him.

Price: $10.50 | Cap: 75

LynBDesigns | The Truth Is Out There

Inspiration: UFOs and their light beams.

Description: The Truth Is Out There is a blurple jelly based scattered holo multichrome that shifts purple to pink to orange to yellow to green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Description: A wax melt with the following scent profile:

Description: Top: Caramelized Sugar, Coconut, pumpkin, apple Middle: Custard, Rum, blueberry, currants Base: Vanilla, Maple, Benzoin, orange, cinnamon.

This reminded me of a mixed pancake buffet. There was a lot of different notes jumping around with the pumpkin and blueberry and cinnamon, with a breakfast vibe from the maple.

Price: $5.00 | Cap: 110

MTK Design | Who’d U Tick Off?

Inspiration: Scully & Mulder’s first meeting.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None

Peachtree Polish | Paper Hearts (Thermal)

Inspiration: The inspiration comes from a fan art drawing by Will Brooks and the name is from an episode title.

Description: Paper Hearts is a purple (cold) to candy pink (warm) crelly based thermal with holo and iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This might actually be my favorite Penelope Luz polish.

Inspiration: the Simpsons crossover episode.

Description: I Bring You Love neon pink crelly base with red, yellow, blue, green and white matte glitters mixed in, with sizes ranging from micro to large. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

If you have a strong VNL, there is a good chance you will see it through this shade.

Inspiration: Ronnie the pizza delivery boy from the X-Files Episode “Bad Blood”.

Description: One of our Own is a coppery red base with copper to red to mauve multichrome shimmer and red magnetic pigment. The magnetic pull is fairly subtle and hard to see in photos. In person you can see it a bit better. I magnetized the 2 middle nails for these photos, and I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 50

Syzygy.Boston | Series of Vampire-Like Acts (Glow In The Dark)

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 50

The Soapy Chef | The Truth Is Out There Manicure Bombs

Inspiration:  Inspired by The X Files.

Description: This is a set of 5 manicure bombs in what we know as a wax clam, but it’s perfect to house these without them being crushed. It’s also easy to pick one up and close it up.

This is a super fresh citrus scented set. Mix of fresh lemon, key lime and ruby red grapefruit. It gives an incredible zing and wakens up your senses.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: 75

The Soapy Chef | X-Files Resin Coated Shot Glass/Water Marbling Cup

Inspiration: Inspired by The Smoking Man.

Description: Each cup will be different, but all feature a smoke effect over white glitter, a vinyl decal with a spaceship in neon green that says “I want to believe”. On the bottom of the cup is a silhouette of the Smoking Man.

This can be used as a shot glass or water marble cup. I actually enjoy using them for water slide decals since they are a nice, small size to use for it.

Price: $9.50 | Cap: 60

Vibrant Vinyls | Alien Princess Scented Double Bond Base Coat

Inspiration: Alien Princess Image (Available as a sticker!)

Description: ‘Alien Princess’ A magical fragrance that will make you feel like the Princess of the Universe! Notes of bright melon and sparkling mandarin are mixed with orange blossom, star jasmine, and rose.

This revolutionary 2 in 1 base coat is formulated with proteins to fill imperfections and ridges on the surface of the nail leaving you with a smooth even base ready for polish. It’s mixed with sticky bond base to also help grab onto your polish and giving a longer wear time.

Usually this is a pale green color, however the scent oil altered it over time in the bottle. It still performs perfectly fine, but I wanted to mention this. When I received the base coat it actually was a pale greenish shade still and over about 15 days it slowly altered to a pale orange, then deepened a bit. It didn’t affect application – just the appearance in the bottle, so nothing to worry about.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

Vibrant Vinyls | Alien Princess Scented Fast & Hard QDTC
