Sally Hansen Halloween 2014 Costume-ize Your Nails Collection Swatches & Review

Press Sample

Good evening!  I received this collection recently and rushed to get them done!  I have several of the polishes that Sally Hansen released for Halloween 2014.  The collection is the Costume-ize Your Nails and in full, it consists of 4 Insta-Dri shades, 4 Salon Effects Nail Stickers, 2 Fuzzy Coat polishes and 2 Big Glitter toppers.  Lots of goodies!

I have all 4 Insta-Dri shades, a Big Glitter topper and a Fuzzy Coat topper.

We’ll start with the Insta-Dri polishes!

Fright Night

Fright Night is your perfect black glossy creme polish.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

Pumpkin Queen

Pumpkin Queen is an orange creme with an incredibly subtle shimmer.  I used 3 thin coats for these photos.  The first 2 coats were a little patchy, but the third seemed to even it all out.

Scaredy Matte

Scaredy Matte is a black matte polish.  Slight brush strokes are visible and if you have prominent nail ridges or imperfections, Scaredy Matte might accentuate them.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

OMGhost

OMGhost is a creamy white with the best name of the collection.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

Witchful Thinking Fuzzy Coat

I want to like bar glitters like these, I really do… but something about them give me the creeps and I don’t know why!  Witchful Thinking is a black and pale orange micro bar glitter in a clear base.  I used 1 coat over Pumpkin Queen.  Overall, application was great.  I got a decent amount of glitters in one coat and they all laid down nicely.  Bar glitters just aren’t my preference in polishes.

Dressed To Thrill Big Glitters

Now we get to my favorite of the set!  Dressed To Thrill is a clear based packed with silver holographic glitters in small hexes and squares and micro glitters.  I used 1 coat over Fright Night for these photos.

Overview

Overall this collection covers the perfect shades for a Halloween collection.  Are they the most original?  No.  But the price is decent and the performance is really good.  Pumpkin Queen needed 3 coats, but aside from that, they were really nice.

Prices:

Insta-Dri Polishes – $4.99

Fuzzy Coats & Big Glitters – $5.99

Salon Effect Nail Stickers (not shown) – $9.99

Where To Buy: Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS & Target

If you have a chance to snag any of these, I would say go for it.  I go through black and white polishes quicker than anything, so I practically stockpile them.  These cremes are nice and the black matte is pretty nice as well.

I'm always on the look out for a good creme, so I'll probably pick up that white and black. Lovely swatches!

As am I! Especially basic colors with good application! Thank you!

Im also not a fan of the bar glitters. I can stand them if they are sparsely mixed with other glitters but thats about it. I love the insta-dry polishes, they are great for stamping.

I can deal with them when mixed with other glitters if they aren't overpowering, but on their own I just can't get into them :(

Dressed to Thrill is my favorite! It's a pretty glitter :)

Yes! I love that one. I just bought the other in the collection as well!

Yes!! I said this on mine, too. Either you love bar glitter or you hate it. Great swatches!!
Lisa Heath November 1, 2014 - 10:23 pm
Definitely. It's a completely preference based thing, and I still buy them hoping one will change my mind and it's just not for me. Thank you!

Great swatches! That orange looks great on you, and I love the Insta-Dri collection for stamping :) I'm not into bar glitter either - reminds me of hair or spiders or something creepy!

I need to use them for stamping! I'm thinking the matte as a base and the glossy black over it might make for a really nice mani! And micro bar glitter... especially black glitters... remind me of leg hair.

I can't do the bar glitter thing either so you're not alone. I got the Night Fright and OMGhost but didn't see the orange or matte black, or the glitters! I would've loved Dressed to Thrill!

I just found the other Big Glitter from this collection this morning so I snagged it immediately. I looked for the other bar glitter too, because I like "complete" collections (even though I'm not a bar glitter fan)

Great swatches! I'm with you on bar glitter- it just looks hairy and gross to me, I just can't get down with it.
Lisa Heath November 1, 2014 - 10:27 pm
Thank you! YES! To me it looks like hair. I always try to love it and mess with it to see, but it's just one of those things.

Your swatches are perfection! I have been on the hunt for the Nail Stickers and STILL haven't found them :-(
Lisa Heath November 1, 2014 - 10:29 pm
Thank you! I found ONE set of the stickers this morning and the other Big Glitter

Love that fuzzy coat! Of course perfect for Halloween :)

I know some who love them and you are right - for Halloween it is fitting :)

I can't like bar glitter as well, I tried! Weirdly, only the white interests me from this collection..
Lisa Heath November 1, 2014 - 10:30 pm
It's a great white to have :)
