Today’s post is something a little different. I had the opportunity to review an iPhone 5 case, and I’ll admit – I adore phone cases and change mine up regularly. The case I received was a Rocketcases Retro Cassette Tape iPhone 5 Case
I’m 31 years old and cassette tapes were basically what I grew up with. I don’t think I owned my first cd until I was about 17? Possibly even 18. So while others may be raising an eyebrow as to why I would want a case like this… it’s quite simple. 1. I love cases for my phone and 2. Nostalgia purposes.
Ok onto the actual review
First off, the rubber cases is quite comfortable in my hand. It’s made of a rubbery feeling plastic and had a great grip to it. Unfortunately though, there are a few things I wasn’t so thrilled with which stopped me from using it much.
Can you see from the above picture what I’m about to point out?
The sides of the case fit fine. I was able to get my phone in the case with very little effort. BUT the top and botton of the phone didn’t fit correctly. Both left a gap between the phone and the case itself, which you can see in the photo above, and I’ll post another below. Because it bowed out on top a little, the piece that fits over the power button on top did not line up and was very difficult to push. The same goes for the volume buttons on the side, but since there was no gap on the sides, I have to assume its the plastic material the case is made of that made the buttons almost non functional for me while the case was in place.
The lower gap is more noticeable. Also, I use my phone as a music source in the car. Unfortunately, the plastic case on the bottom is too thick and I could not plug anything into this phone while the case was in place. It simply wouldn’t connect because of the case. This includes charging the phone. I’m not sure if the gap is what caused it, but either way it immediately made me remove the case.
While I personally found the case to be cute and reminded me of growing up with cassette tapes you could record on over and over and over (which my sisters and I did) – because of the gaping and the issue with plugging anything into it, I don’t think I will continue using this particular case.
Price: $14.99
Where to Buy: Amazon and Rocketcases.com
Would I repurchase?: I would not purchase this case. I may try another case from this manufacturer in case this was a fluke and I got a bad one, but sadly I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
