March is always the month I wait and see what the theme will be, mainly because it’s my birthday month. I’ll be 40 on March 22nd. I’ve seen Maker’s Choice suggested many times, it even made it to voting several times… but it finally happened. Actually we’re seeing a lot finally win the votes (April too!) so it’s fun to see. So tonight we’re looking at the Polish Pickup March 2022 shop… and the theme is Maker’s Choice!

Not surprising – we have a lot of purple tones. I knew if Maker’s Choice ever won, it would be blue/purple heavy and … I was right. Purple is my favorite color though – so I’m not complaining. Also not surprisingly – there’s a lot of reflective glitter (BRING IT ON!) as well.

I almost want one Maker’s Choice a year just to see how the finishes and trends come and go. I do think it would always be heavily blue/purple – but as far as finish goes it would be interesting to see.

So Maker’s Choice is exactly how it sounds – makers each got to pick their own theme/inspiration and had complete control over their item. Some created companion polishes, others created what their fan groups voted on, and some just did what their passion/fandom/love was.

I am still waiting on 2 items for this month’s post, so I’ll pop them in when they arrive. Vapid Wax and All Mixed Up Lacquer as far as I know are the 2 I’m waiting on.

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos used Vibrant Vinyls  and Glisten & Glow Top Coat which were both sent as PR this month, and for matte top coat I used Alchemy Lacquers Mattenum Opus Top Coat which the maker sent as a gift in my swatcher packs. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues and the top coats were sent as pr or as gifts.

There are a lot of reflective glitter polishes this month – and for most I have 2 flash photo sets for. One (holding bottle) was taken in low light with a my camera (Nikon Coolpix L830) flash and the 3 finger set is with my cell phone (iPhone 12 pro) flash. Both flashes give very different effects and I included both.

I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I work during the day and weekend afternoons I’m with Nick and Jacob, so I do most swatching when the sun is setting or gone. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

My nails are not my natural nails – I’m using ENailCouture Full Coverage Gel Nail Tips in Active Almond shape.

Wishlisting opens this Sunday, so let’s get this show on the road!

Alchemy Lacquers | Begonya (Reflective Glitter)

Inspiration: Inspired by a picture of a blue Begonia.

Description: Begonya is a microglitter style stunner. This is a clear base with blue, red and gold micro holographic glitters, silver reflective glitter, as well as strong red to orange to gold to green shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

While this shade doesn’t really dry down with a strong texture, 1 coat of top coat only might have a mild “pitted” look to the polish when dry – so you may need 2 coats of top coat or a glitter smoother and top coat to get a nice, glassy look.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 200

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | It’s-A-Me, Mario

Inspiration: The maker was inspired by Super Mario! Not only was he a fixture of her childhood, but her own children now play the games, collect the stuffies, and build with the Super Mario Bros themed Legos!

Description: It’s-A-Me, Mario! is a clear base packed with matte and metallic glitter in red, blue, aqua, green, yellow, and white. It is made up of mostly smaller glitter sizes to create a fun speckled effect.. This can be used as a topper, but I used 3 thin coats and then a glitter smoothing top coat and QDTC to give it a smooth finish.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: None

Atomic Polish | Cosmic Pull

Inspiration: Inspired by a photo taken by Nasa showing one small galaxy being absorbed into another larger galaxy as they pass each other in orbit. This will one day happen to our galaxy!

Description: Cosmic Pull is a grey holographic base coat with 4 different sizes of holographic pigment, as well as holographic flakes, as well as gold to red to pink shimmer, green to blue and red to gold flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade is more opaque and slightly thicker, but not difficult to work with at all.

Price: $14.00 | Cap: None

AURORA 5-Free Nail Lacquer | Multichromosome

Inspiration: Inspired by Sister polish to “DNA Sequins”

Description: Multichromosome is a purple to blue to green multichrome base with geometric pigment and metallic red glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I did need 2 coats of top coat to get that smooth glassy finish, as this shade does have a very mild texture when it dries down.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300

Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Unicorn Pops

Inspiration: Inspired by summer fruits because most of us can’t wait for summer, right?

Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.

The March scent is Unicorn Pops which is bright notes of blood orange and satsuma combined with goji and mango with a touch of vanilla to ground the sweetness.

To my nose – satsuma is the stronger scent with underlying notes of vanilla and some blood orange. It has a citrus bite, but it’s more the bitter than the tart type citrus. It smells really good and I plan to grab a backup.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

Baroness X | Sol de Aureate (Fluid Art Polish)

Inspiration: Inspired by the sun and wanted to do sort of a sister fluid art polish to La Vie En Rose (also from PPU). Sol de Aureate loosely means Sun of Gold.

Description: Sol de Aureate is a berry pink based fluid art polish with gold to green to blue shifting shimmer and some large particle holo scattered in. I wore this in 3 thin coats on index and pinky, and used it as fluid art polish alone with a black creme and milky white crelly.

For the fluid art look, I did the following:

First I needed to make a decal. I recommend a silicone mat to do this, I personally use this one (affiliate link) but you can find them cheaper – I just like the size and having 4 to use.

The method that works best for me is to drop the polishes on top of each other a couple drips at a time (similar to water marbling without the water) and I do 3 drops of Sol de Aureate and then 3 drops of each of the other polishes right on top of each other. I keep doing this until I have a nice blob of polishes in the center of the mat. Then I picked the mat up and just carefully moved it around to get the blob to warp and stretch and flatten out.

Once I saw the desired cells and spread of the polish, I set it aside for about 15 hours to dry (can take less, I just waited 15) and then I cut out the desired size, painted my nails with a sticky base and applied the cut out decals. Then I manipulated and sealed them in with a cotton swab dipped in polish remover. I used an orange stick to help cut off any extra I didn’t need.

Pigment Kit by Hit the Bottle Polishes | Stuck on You & Midas Touch

Inspiration:

Description: A sticky black stamping polish designed to be used with pigments and nail art foils. Comes with 0.5 gr of multichrome (shifts from gold to olive green to steely grey) holo chrome pigment and applicator.

To use this set you would paint your base color and then apply a matte top coat. Once done, use the black sticky polish (Stuck on You) to stamp your selected design on. Wait 20-30 seconds, then gently apply pigment to stamping with applicator.

The pigment will not stick to the matte portion of nails which makes this a bit easier. Plus this way you can use the pigment without using the method that requires your stamper (which can make it permanently cloudy)

Once done, either use a water based top coat to protect the design, then the top coat of your choice. You can also skip the water based top coat and float your top coat of choice over, but it does run the risk of dulling the holo effect.

I used this kit over Starlight Polish’s PPU shade this month. Stamping plate design is Urban Wildstyle – also featured in PPU this month.

Price: $14.00 | Cap:80

KBShimmer | Hand & Body Scrub in Vanilla Bean

Inspiration: Inspired by vanilla desserts Rich, smooth cream combined with the fragrant vanilla bean form the base of many favorite desserts: ice cream, crème brulee, pudding, and pastry creams. My favorite way to enjoy a scoop of vanilla is with a drizzle of thick, dark caramel sauce. The toasted notes of the nearly burnt sugar complement the cool vanilla so well, it’s no wonder that the combo is even featured in fragrances.

Description: KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.

Vanilla Bean is a simple, rich vanilla bean scent with notes of sweet cream. This isn’t your typical super sweet vanilla scent, which I enjoyed. It’s a more mature vanilla scent.

Wax by Pretty Beautiful Unlimited | Black Sugar & Vanilla Lace

Inspiration: Inspired by ideas submitted by my FB Group

Description: Mysterious yet sweet, this fragrance blends luscious, creamy vanilla and tart raspberry intertwined with agarwood, myrrh and spicy musk. Sandalwood warmly highlights its sweetness.

My nose picks up the sandalwood smoothed out by vanilla mostly. It’s a warm and familiar scent that I cannot place – but I know it’s a fragrance i’ve smelled before.

I do want to say that the pink coloring used did transfer to my fingers when putting a cube in the melter – so be aware of that as you will want to wash it off right away. I didn’t experience staining – but I did have a small smudge on my face since I wasn’t paying attention.

Price: $6.00 | Cap: None

Da Balmer by Red Eyed Lacquer | What’s A TSP?

Inspiration: Inspired by Green Fairy from Sleeping Beauty making a birthday cake!

Description: Da Balm-er is a cross between a balm and body butter. It’s creamy like a body butter but has a more emollient feel like a balm would. It’s an intensive treatment you can use anywhere (I love it on cuticles of course) but a little goes a long way. If you use too much – it will feel very oily (like a balm would) so start with a little and build up if you need more.

The March scent is a sweet blend of fresh pomegranate and citrus creates natural juicy tones for this sweet heart delight. Creamy undertones of berry and musk are sweetened with vanilla and sugar crystals.

This scent reminds me of a mixed fruit cup. I don’t know why – but when I first opened it, it reminded me of those fruit cups you got as a kid in school that had one solitary half sliced cherry in it… but like an ambrosia like version of that. It smells sweet, fruity and delicious.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: 100

Scofflaw Varnish | The Chia Pet Conspiracy

Inspiration: The first rule of the the Chia Pet Conspiracy, is you don’t talk about the Chia Pet Conspiracy.

Description: The Chia Pet Conspiracy is a neon pastel lime green creme packed with glitters in shades of green, teal, and aqua, and finished off with holo sparkles and an aqua-blue shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Serum No. 5 | You Had Me at Aloe (Glow In The Dark)

Starlight and Sparkles | Are You Dreaming?

Inspiration: Inspired by my own experiences with narcolepsy, including vivid dreams, nightmares, and hypnopompic hallucinations (times where your brain doesn’t quite stop dreaming for a little while after you wake up).

Description: Are You Dreaming is a black jelly base with red to gold to green original unicorn pee shimmer, with holographic shimmer, and holo microflakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy to coat for these photos.

Two dollars from each bottle sold will go to Narcolepsy Network, a non-profit patient support organization.

Price: $17.00 | Cap: 200

STELLA CHROMA | Stuck-asaurus

Inspiration: We had just gotten some snow, so I wanted to go with a snowy white polish. Then I saw the most wholesome thing on the internet… A video of a 4 year old girl in a dinosaur snowsuit snowboarding. Her dad put a microphone on her and adorableness happened. And our polish was made! Want to see some cuteness? You do… https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdBHwCXE/

Description: Stuck-asaurus is a white crelly base with pink to purple to gold to green iridescent flakes, holo flakes, and pink to blue shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Sweet Heart Polish | Full Moon Vibes

Inspiration: Inspired by a photo I took of the full moon, Jan 17th 2022

Treo Lacquer | I, Pisces

Inspiration: March is my birthday month! So I thought it would be fun to do a Pisces inspired polish.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: 160

Unicorn Magic Skincare | Deluxe Cuticle Balm scented in Almost Herbal Essences

Inspiration: Inspired by the classic shampoo Herbal Essences

Description: This is a cuticle balm (which I find more hydrating for me than creams) that is made with local beeswax from the famous Hollywood Farmers Market, as well as oils that help nourish and soften your cuticles.

This stuff is magical in the Winter/cooler months.

Almost Herbal Essences: inspired by the 1980s version of Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo. It’s a fresh mix of lime, grapefruit, bergamot, heather, jasmine, ylang ylang, and wood. Please note this is not an exact match for the shampoo, that is why we are calling it Almost Herbal Essences!

I find this to be less fruity in scent than the actual shampoo, but it still has that fresh and clean scent with a light lime and grapefruit zing.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: 300

Base Coat by Vibrant Vinyls | Rainbow Sugar Scented Double Bond

Inspiration: Inspired by rainbow sugar

Description: Double Bond is a ridge filling base coat and sticky base coat in 1. Best of both worlds. I also sometimes like wearing it alone cause it gives a healthy, sheer, milky look to the nails.

For March the scent is Rainbow Sugar – The delicious smelling scent of fruity rainbow sherbet combined with sweet sugar crystals. Pops of raspberry, lime, and orange sit on a base of sweet sugar candy.

This is a nice, strong fruity candy like scented top coat.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

Top Coat by Vibrant Vinyls | Rainbow Sugar Scented Fast & Hard QDTC

Inspiration: Inspired by rainbow sugar

Fast & Hard is a super glossy quick dry top coat that can be applied over wet polish without issue. It also works over stamping, just make sure you float the top coat!

For March the scent is Rainbow Sugar – The delicious smelling scent of fruity rainbow sherbet combined with sweet sugar crystals. Pops of raspberry, lime, and orange sit on a base of sweet sugar candy.

This is a nice, strong scent too! If you like sugary fruit scents, you’ll love this.

For these nails, I used a black creme base (Vapid Lacquer Pessimist) with Hit The Bottle stamping plate in Go With The Flow and HtB stamping Polishes in the colors: Just Because (also available in the March shop), Lapis Of The Gods (March 2020 PPU Shop) and Free to Flutterby (March 2021 PPU Shop)

Hi Lisa,

You’re asking what is the number one product from march’s PPU for us, girl, I tell you I have a lovely very concise, very short and sweet list of 18, products I want. I am on a low buy right now, and am limiting my spending to a maximum of $60, including tax and shipping. So 18 products makes that kind of challenging, right?!? Not sure what I’m going to do, and now I only have 3 days left to narrow my list down to fit my criteria. waaah!

If I’m forced under Damocles Sword to pick one, then I think I have to go with Ethereal’s polish from this month. They have re-entered PPU with a BANG! I don’t have a colour like this one and I think it’s super pretty and unique amongst the reflective glitter party that is happening with the others.

Well that’s all then, hope you and yours are well and healthy. Take Care now.‍♀️
