It’s that time again! I have several of the the Polish Pickup March 2021 offerings to share, and this month the theme is Spring: Birds, Bees & Butterflies!

So far I have 93 items but I still have at least 11 more on the way that got held up in USPS limbo. According to tracking they should arrive Monday and Tuesday and I will continue on then and add them into the post.

First things first. My nails aren’t “mine” for this entire post. I had a bad break last month before starting on PPU swatching, and I broke out the Kiara Sky Gelly Tips kit in Short Coffin. I did do a full post on those, so click the wording if you want to see. So yes, my nails look different because they are for now. I also am really enjoying the tips so I don’t know how long they will be on, but they are clear and don’t alter anything – so … I’m enjoying it!

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, Sweet & Sour Lacquer Gloss Sauce (except for when I used Vibrant Vinyls and Cuticula), and Sweet & Sour Lacquer Secret Matte Sauce. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues, but the Sweet & Sour Lacquer top coats were sent as gifts from the maker.

I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I get the most done at night, so I swatch a lot at night. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

Inspiration:Inspired by the monarch butterfly and its migration patterns

Description: A Perilous Journey is a rusty brownish red jelly base with red to orange to yellow hsifting shimmer, as well as gold to green to orange to red shifting flakes and gold flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

A Bead Apart Jewelry | Hand Painted Hummingbird Dangle Earrings

Inspiration: Most people have lost someone they love. My late step-mother loved hummingbirds, and I think of her whenever I see them. This labor of love is a tribute to her memory.

Description: A Bead Apart brings us these cute dangle earrings that are each handpainted with 5 different Kathleen & Co polishes, and then glazed for a permanent finish. The earrings are 2″ long and 3/4″ wide, and the hummingbird itself is 3/4″ wide and 1/2″ tall. These aren’t heavy, so they don’t pull the lobe down.

Alchemy Lacquer | Metamorphosis

Inspiration: Metamorphosis is based on the Monarch chrysalis, about 24 hours before they eclose (come out), where the orange and black of their wings starts to develop and the chrysalis becomes translucent.

Inspiration:

Description: Butterfly of Darkness is a dusty pastel soft teal tinged mint green with unicorn pigment going from green to pink and mega bold ultra chrome chameleon flakes that shift gold to green to magenta. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

All Mixed Up Lacquers | Mani/Pedi Fizzies

Inspiration:

Description: 2 pack of spring green mani/pedi foaming fizzies with secret hidden colors scented in juicy apple fruit loops.  All Mixed Up’s fizzies are fun to watch because they always have secret color swirlies in side. This month’s scent is described as juicy apple fruit loops, but I detected something lightly floral in it as well that I couldn’t place my finger on. I wouldn’t have used fruit loops as the description either, but it just might be my nose not getting that scent.

My nose detected a very light, pleasant floral – soft and delicate. It also detected mixed fruit, but not the cereal like fruit loops scent. It’s like a Spring time picnic with a fruit bowl and soft florals being carried by the wind. That’s the scent I get.

So these are basically smaller bath bombs made for feet and/or hands. You can take a small piece of one, drop it in and let it fizz up and the oils mix in the water, then soak your hands or feet. If you use a full fizzie, make sure it’s a big bowl and the water isn’t to the top – or you will overflow with fizz and you will be cleaning it up.

Alter Ego Body Care Products | Pet & People Potion

Inspiration: Inspired by “I wanted to offer people a useful product they could use on themselves as well as their pets.”

Description: Pet & People Potion is a heart shaped solid lotion bar that is unscented and can be used on both pets and people!

This works well on pet’s foot pads to create a nourishing barrier. Tested on both cats and dogs… but is also usable on humans. I’ve been using it for my hands lately and I do love the feel. It’s not a creamy lotion, but it has an emollient like feeling to it which gives your skin a nice, healthy glow without being a greasy mess.

It comes in a heart shaped container which is adorable. I will be grabbing a backup of this – and I’m actually really glad it’s unscented!

Alter Ego Body Care Products | What A Big Boy!

Inspiration: Inspired by the Blue Morpho Butterfly

Description: What a Big Boy! is a medium sky blueish turquoise base with silvery shimmer and black microglitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The base with shimmer gives this polish an almost metallic like look – which is why it also looks slightly textured with the addition of microglitters. I only needed 1 coat of top coat to smooth over though.

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Mermaid Tears Base Coat

Inspiration: The scent was inspired by whimsical butterfly wings and the sweetness of a bird song. Light & pretty!

Description: I actually use this product a ton. I like using it as a base for nail art primarily but it’s a deep nutrition base coat.

Mermaid Tears is a deep nutrition rehab treatment for your nails and can help weak or brittle nails. It has a moisturizing formula that contains a smoothing complex to seal down Keratin cells, while amino acids help stimulate the formation of new Keratin cells.

My nails have never been a problem for me personally, so I cannot test if they help weak, brittle nails. I’ve always had strong, healthy nails – so I cannot confirm or deny if the base coat helps those issues.

As far as a stand alone base coat, it worked very well for me. It’s a milky neutral pink and 3 thin coats is the sweet spot for a great nail art base.

Scented in “Fly Away” – a light fruity/floral fusion featuring mandarin slices, pink berries, sheer waterlily, tuberose, white peach, lily of the valley – all warmed with subtle notes of amber, musk, and sandalwood.

To my nose the scent is light and pleasant. My nose picks up the mandarin and lily of the valley the most.

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Spread Your Wings & Fly, Butterfly

Inspiration: Inspired by Mariah Carey’s 1997 album Butterfly

Description: Spread Your Wings & Fly, Butterfly is a copper tinted ultra holographic base with copper, gold, tan, caramel, and rose gold glitter in various shapes, sizes, and finishes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This album came out when I was a freshman in high school – so lots of memories with various songs here.

Inspiration: Inspired by Galo da Serra bird

Description: Galo da Serra is a citrus orange creme. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat on my index and pinky for these photos. The middle and ring fingers were an attempt with the other Apipila item shown right after this one.

Apipila | Mix/Stamping Plate

Inspiration: Inspired by Marble nails

Description: Sterilizable plate for mixtures of products such as nail polish, nail gel, glitter, pigments. Mix Plate can be used as a basis for creating effects and mixing colors. It can also be used to mix products for make-up.

Okay – so I’m not a nail art person really. I can water marble and I can do basic stamping, so I was a little out of my element with this plate. However – I do see the usefulness with it.

So it has a few things to do with it. There are 2 areas (the rectangle and circle) that you can do designs on and stamp to pick it up. And it seems more “stamp while wet” vs making decals, since decals usually don’t peel up super easy on surfaces like these. The nail polishes around the border? Those you can pick up with a stamper. There’s also a Love Polish image in the bottom left corner that if you had a stamper to shrink images – you might have a pretty darn cute stamp there too.

My nail design started as a gradient but I got bumped and my stamp “skidded” across the nail, so I decided to try smoosh art. It’s not great – but I didn’t hate it (you might, I didn’t) so I just went with it. It wasn’t typical smoosh art and actually had less cleanup needed since it wasn’t all goopy.

It’s not a giant plate – it’s really not much bigger than a normal stamping plate and I do show it with my hand over it a few photos down so you get an idea of size reference.

Baroness X | Acetone Antidote in Tea Time in a Rose Garden

Inspiration: Inspired by roses as inspo for the butterflies and blackberries as inspo for the birds.

Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.

This month’s Acetone Antidote is Tea Time in a Rose Garden – a house blend of sweet blackberry jam filled butter cookies with a smattering of rose jam (Lush type).

This is an interesting scent and when I first got it I kept having to go back and sniff it again because it confused my senses for a bit. So I get the rose jam (if you are familiar with LUSH you know this one) but rose jam is a lemon, rose and geranium if I remember correctly – so it’s a sweet floral with some citrus zing. So this scent takes that and then there is a blackberry jam butter cookie scent mixed in and I got a lot of butter cookie scent.

It is pleasant but it’s very different, and I feel like it’s more complex and it smells slightly different every time I got in to sniff again.

Description: Coronet is a green to blue to purple to magenta to gold multichrome base with pink to gold to green magnetic multichrome pigment, as well as a rainbow assortment of iridescent flakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats for these photos, and used a magnet on middle and index fingers only.

Dries with a mild texture depending on how the glitters lay and “pile up” if at all. You may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish.

Description: Scented Limitless Quick Dry in ‘Raspberry Sugar’ Juicy, candy fruity top notes with long lasting sugary sweet bottom notes. A scrumptious sweet-as-candy blend of sugared raspberries, hints of plum and tiny little hint of floral.

To my nose I definitely get the candied raspberries and a hint of floral, but the floral is really low key and not as noticeable.

The linear holo isn’t translating well for photos – but it is pretty strong in person.

DRK Nails | Creojá

Inspiration: Inspired by Creojá, a species of bird in the family Cotingidae. It is endemic to south-east of Brazil. Its natural habitat is tropical moist lowland forests. It is threatened by habitat loss as its population is estimated to number 250-999 mature individuals.

Description: Crejoá is a flake bomb in a jelly bright blue. It has large and small particles of Aurora pigment, 3 different colors of iridescent flakes, 2 pastel flakes and 1 chrome flake. It can be used as a topper or by itself in 3 thin coats as shown.

It will have a slight texture but I used 1 coat of top coat for a smooth finish.

Inspiration:Inspired by Glass Wing butterfly.

Description: Glass Wing is a white micro-flake magnetic effect topper filled with iridescent and chrome flakes. It can also be used alone, but I used 1 coat over a black creme.

Description: Rainbow Chicken from ellagee is a clear base with a dense mix of micro, small, and medium glitter in a dazzling mix of rainbow shades. Can be worn as a topper or built to opacity. I wore this in 3 thin coats, then due to texture I used Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber and topped it all with top coat.

Citrus Refresher Cuticle Remover & Cuticle Oil Duo | Glisten & Glow

Inspiration:

Description: Both products are scented in “Citrus Refresher” which is a wonderful blend of orange, lemon and lime. A bright, bold and crisp, a great wake-me-up scent. Glisten & Glow’s Cuticle Remover softens and removes excess cuticle as well as eponychium skin and comes in an easy to use twist-up pen style applicator.

Directions: Apply generously to the cuticle area and let sit for 60 seconds. Next, gently push back with your favorite tool. Finally, wash hands and cuticles thoroughly with soap and water.

These work incredibly well and I’ve primarily used them in my nail routine for over a year now.I generally get sets to review for PPU, but then I buy an additional set each time so I never run out.

Description: Luminous Wings is a magenta base with super shifty red-pink aurora shimmer with little pops of blue shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade is a little less red in person – the lighting brought out the red aurora more.

Description: Find Beauty In The Small Things is a teal green (cold) to chartreuse (warm) crelly based thermal that’s packed with pink to green shimmer, pink-orange-green iridescent flakes, and a touch of holo microflakes and microglitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

WiTS by Heather’s Hues | Butterfly Garden

Inspiration: Inspired by beautiful gardens full of flowers that butterflies find irresistible

Description: This creamy lotion is sooooo good I had to name it “What is This Sorcery?” or “WiTS” Lotion. It’s packed full of skin-loving, nourishing natural ingredients that absorb quickly and leave your skin ultra moisturized.

WiTs body lotion is a fast absorbing body lotion that doesn’t leave my hands greasy. The texture is light and creamy and a little goes a long way.

“Butterfly Garden” is a scent with top notes of Italian bergamot, rare camellias, and lime, followed by middle notes of lily, jasmine, and rose, and finished with hints of exotic sandalwood and vetiver. 

This is a more delicate floral like scent and has a very subtle musk like note. I personally enjoyed it because it’s not a fake floral scent and it doesn’t over do it. It’s really nicely balanced.

Description: Precious Nectar is a sheer grey base loaded with silver holo micro flakes and blue to purple shimmer. This is a very glowy like shade. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. If you have strong VNL – you will see it through this shade.

The purple shift is more obvious in person – it was rather shy for photos.

Jior Couture | High Roller (Tri-Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by the beautiful Lilac-breasted roller.
This colorful, high flying bird lives mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. It is quite common in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Botswana, northeastern South Africa, and much of Namibia, excluding the Namib Desert.

KBShimmer | Restoration Drops Nail Polish Thinner

Inspiration: Thick Polish

Description: Over time, nail polish can get thick and stringy. This is due to the evaporation of Butyl Acetate and Ethyl Acetate, two of the main ingredients in all nail polishes that help the polish to dry on your nails.

If your nail polish (or top coat!) feels thick and goopy, add 5 drops of thinner to start – mix and add more as needed until you are at your desired consistency. If your polish completely dried out (most common to see in glitter bombs) then fill the bottle with thinner and let sit over night while it works to rehydrate and bring it back to its former glory.

I use this stuff when I add more top coat to the bottle or it gets goopy. Everyone needs a bottle of this stuff and some don’t know it until they get some!

I just got this sampler yesterday and so far melted Coconut Pear, and I NEED MORE in that scent. These all smell so good and they work to mix and match scents too.

Da Balmer by Red Eyed Lacquer | Butterfly Kisses

Inspiration: Inspired by Butterfly Magnolias

Description: Butterfly Kisses Da Balm-er is scented in peach, magnolia flowers and raspberries. I primarily smell the magnolia, and then the peach is an underlying scent. The raspberry is more subtle, but it’s not a tart raspberry – it reminds me of the B&BW Sun Ripened Raspberry style of raspberry scent.

Da Balm-er is a cross between a balm and body butter. It’s creamy like a body butter but has a more emollient feel like a balm would. It’s an intensive treatment you can use anywhere (I love it on cuticles of course) but a little goes a long way.

These sets use rectangular paper clips, stainless steel rings, a stainless steel lobster clasp, iridescent glass beads, and colorful enameled butterfly charms. Due to the shape of the paperclip, the charms can’t freely slide all around the paperclip, and I find these type of paperclips to be quite secure, able to reliably hold quite a few sheets, and I usually find they’re less likely to leave paperclip imprints in the page they’re attached to.

Description: Stella Chroma’s Emulsified Sugar Scrub is an incredibly fine particle sugar that’s densely packed in. Dig a little out of the jar, massage into your hands then rinse and keep rubbing it in while rinsing. Your hands will feel smooth, soft and incredible.

Description: This hand and nail “snow” scrub is a gentle exfoliating scrub for hands and nails. It emulsifies and lathers when you add water to it. It will condition and brighten nails and cuticles and leave your skin feeling refreshed and silky smooth. 

Scented with a bright and zesty lemon and grapefruit scent.

Directions: Use a small amount to rub onto body in a circular motion. Add water to create a creamy effect. Rinse and pat dry. Rub any remaining product into skin. May be used daily. *While this scrub is meant to be used with water, try to not allow any water to get into the container, as it can reduce the shelf-life.

This stuff smells amazing and leaves my hands super freaking soft. The exfoliation isn’t large particle, it’s quite small exfoliation pieces and does an incredible job!

Polish Pickup March 2021 | Spring: Birds, Bees & Butterflies

This month had an incredible mix of colors. I didn’t feel super overwhelmed by any particular color family, when usually it’s half blue or purple. Scented items did an incredible job, especially since a lot tackled florals. None smack you in the face, they were lighter and well balanced.
