Press Sample of the Polish Pickup
August 2020 | Weird Science
What a month it has been! So many things happened and I’m honestly a little surprised I pulled this off. At the beginning of July we started clearing out our home to get ready to sell. My final day of work was July 15th, we sold our home and were on a plane to Massachusetts by July 24th. And now here I am with my Polish Pickup review for the August 2020 Weird Science theme!
As of the time of typing this post up – I have 94 items done. I still have several on the way and I will be popping those in as they show up. Because of the move, some makers held off sending just in case it was delayed and got caught up in the routing to the new address. My USPS dashboard for packages looks crazy busy – so as they arrive, I’ll still be adding. I know of at least 9 more I’m waiting on for sure.
Okay so this month the theme is Weird Science. This could refer to the movie or Science in general – as always it’s makers choice!
For all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, Sweet & Sour Lacquer Gloss Sauce as top coat (except for the photos showing another top coat as the PPU item.) Usually I do matte top coat as well, but I had packed up the trunk of my car to be transported to Massachusetts ahead of leaving, and my matte top coat was in the trunk. So I skipped them this month. They will be back in next month’s post though.
I do use artificial lighting for my photos because of my schedule – and mostly use Glamcor lighting. A few sets of photos were taken after moving and I did change up my photo area – so some might be a tad different positioning wise. I’m still getting used to the new area. I also was surprised with a new iMac pro as my work space and I’m getting used to that as well, so I’m relearning some things here.
The August Polish Pickup shop will begin August 7th and close on August 10th. Wishlisting will be this coming Sunday.
Make sure you stick around to the bottom of the post and enter the giveaway as well!

77 Nail Lacquer | Blue Lava
Inspiration:Blue Lava is inspired by the Kawah Ijen volcano in Indonesia. Lava coming from the Kawah Ijen has a blue appearance. It was thought that the lava was actually blue. Exposed to the oxygen in the air and sparked by lava, the sulfur burns readily, and it’s flames are bright blue. But because only the flames are blue, rather than the lava itself, the effect is only visible at night.
Description: Blue Lava is a cobalt blue crelly base with purple to pink ot orange to copper shimmer, as well as silver holographic micro bar glitters mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: 350 US / 50 UK
Alchemy Lacquers | Popcorn Laser
Inspiration:Inspired by The scene from the movie Real Genius where they use the laser to fill an entire house with popcorn.
Description: Popcorn Laser is a deep, cool toned purple jelly base with pink to orange to green shifting iridescent flakes, holo flakes and micro holographic glitter. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $11.50 | Cap: 200 US / 10 UK
I’ve Been Slimed! Bath Bomb | Alter Ego Body Care Products
Inspiration: Inspired by “I think making slime from common ingredients is very weird. I found some commercially prepared slime in a 1″ clear round ball, so of ourse I knew I had to embed that slime ball in my signature foaming bath bomb formula.”
Description: Alter Ego Body Care Products brings us a hand packed Bath Ball! This is unscented, so it takes on the natural scent of the ingredients. I mainly can smell the Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter. This is a VERY moisturizing bath ball, so I do recommend breaking it up and using it in smaller pieces. I got 3 uses out of mine and actually put it in a freezer bag and gave it a good whack – then used the particles of it in my bath. If you use the full thing at one time, it may be too greasy for you.
This was hand packed due to Cynthia’s shoulder being injured and she couldn’t use the press. It has (as she describes it) a ‘meatball’ like appearance since it’s hand packed.
Price: $7.50 | Cap: 40
Alter Ego Body Care Products | I’ve Been Slimed!
Inspiration: I think making slime from common ingredients is very weird. I got the color from a website I looked at on how to make slime, the maker used pink to color her slime. It wasn’t very opaque, it was more translucent, so I made a jelly polish to mimic that look.
Description: I’ve Been Slimed! is a sheer, hot pink jelly. I used 3 thin coats and still have a visible nail line (and my nail line isn’t super opaque) so that should show you how sheer this tends to be. It would work well as a topper OR for ‘pond mani’ type looks.
Price: $9.00 | Cap: none
Apipila | I’m Weird
Inspiration:Inspired by Brown Diamond – Steven Universe
Description: I’m Weird can be a normal polish or a stamping polish. As a normal polish – it’s good to go in just 1 coat (as shown on my pinkie and index nails) or you can stamp over virtually any shade. I stamped over a black creme and it was still an incredibly rich terra cotta brown.
This is one of those colors that you didn’t realize you needed in your collection. I am not usually a big brown fan, however – this fills a hole in my stamping polishes that I didn’t realize I was missing. It’s a beautiful shade – and even with the warmth of I’m Weird – it still played nicely with my cool toned skin.
Price: $9.00 | Cap: 80 US / 20 UK
I Need Space | Stamping Plate by Apipila Cosméticos
Inspiration: Inspired by “Apipila wanted to bring an I Need Space Stamp Plate with diversified designs, a little bit of everything! What is strange for some may not be for the other.”
Description: I Need Space is an incredibly fun stamping plate! It has aliens, organs with faces and arms and legs (I was fairly amused by those) as well as organisms and chemistry stuff – this has a little bit of everything science wise. I do have some sciencey plates – but none like this one. It’s 18×10 – so fairly large and the images are well etched and stamped beautifully.
There is a clear film over the plate – so be sure to peel that off. I might have been tired and forgot to do so when I first got it.
I did want to play with it more, but because of my move – it got to me a tiny bit later and I just got it yesterday. So I’ll definitely play with it more once I’m a little more settled.
Price: $14.50 | Cap: 250 US / 50 UK
Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Not Such A Fungi
Inspiration: Inspired by the Chordyceps fungus. It’s known as the zombie as the spores take control of the host’s mind. You might know them for the video games The Last of Us
Description: Not Such A Fungi is a neutral, pale beige with a strong peach tone to it, as well as red to green shimmer. The shimmer gives it more of an orangey feel, but the base is actually quite neutral. I was surprised because this type of shade usually gives me lobster hands – but it played nice on me and was quite wearable.
I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: None
Black Dahlia Lacquer | Fusion
Inspiration: Inspired by fusion reactions which combine two or more atoms; this polish combines multiple shades of blue and purple.
Description: Fusion is a violet jelly base with a strong blue to green shift, packed with periwinkle flakes, blue to green to purple ultra chrome chameleon flakes, purple metallic micro flakes, holographic shimmer and blue to violet aurora shimmer. This is a very shifty shade and photos don’t do it justice. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The flakes give it a very mild texture, but 1 coat of top coat should smooth it over just fine
Price: $11.50 | Cap: None
Black Dahlia Lacquer | Spontaneous Combustion
Inspiration:Spontaneous Combustion is inspired by thermal reactions, often reaching a red/pink or rose color during the reaction.
Description: Spontaneous Combustion is a sheer rose gold top coat, with rose to green shifting aurora shimmer, metallic rose gold flakes and holo flakes. I used 1 coat over a black creme for these photos.
Price: $11.50 | Cap: None
BLUSH Lacquers | Positronic Brain
Inspiration:Inspired by data from Star Trek The Next Generation
Description: Positronic Brain is a pea green jelly base that borders on crelly based. It has holographic microflakes mixed in. Definitely the “prugly” color people seem to love. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $11.00 | Cap: None
By Dany Vianna | Carbonation
Inspiration:Inspired by Coke and Mentos experiment
Description: Carbonation is the perfect Coca Cola brown jelly base with pearl white hex glitters in square and hex ranging from micro to medium sizes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $11.50 | Cap: 250 US / 20 UK
By Vanessa Molina | Flaming Star
Inspiration:Inspired by a star called a fire star that has stars around it that look like micro crystals.
Description: Flaming Star is a neutral leaning warm red loaded with iridescent flecks and holographic shimmer. The holo is slightly on the subtle side, but in some lighting it pops up. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK
By Vanessa Molina | Space Storm (Magentic)
Inspiration:space magnetic storms
Description: Space Storm is a magnetic effect top coat with a clear base and deep silvery magnetic shimmer, as well as holographic shimmer and iridescent flakes that shift all the colors of the rainbow. I used 1 coat over Flaming Star (shown above) and a black creme.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK
Cadillacquer | I Am The Danger
Inspiration: Inspired by the chemistry teacher Walter White, aka Heisenberg, from the tv series Breaking Bad
Description: I Am The Danger is a bright lime green crelly base loaded with glowing iridescent chameleon flakes and bright red hex glitters in micro and small sizes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Now the base of this is bright, but not quite neon. I do love the inspo though – Breaking Bad is one of my favorite shows to binge watch.
Price: $13.50 | Cap: None
Cameo Colours Lacquers | Talos I
Inspiration: Inspired by one of my very favorite video games, Prey (2017). Talos I is the 8th wonder of the world, in space. It’s a scientific and technological marvel, housing an inky, malevolent secret.
Description: Talos I is a black jelly base loaded with scattered holo, indigo to purple shifting shimmer, gold metallic micro flecks and silver holo micro flecks. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
This is one of my top picks this month and I can already tell – I will wear it a lot come Fall. It’s beautifully done and has an inner glow thing going on.
Price: $11.50 | Cap: 95 US / 5 UK
Color Spectrum Polish | Glowing Volcano
Inspiration:Inspired by The Glowing Volcano Project
Description: Glowing Volcano is a bright yellow tinged orange jelly base with purple ghost flakes, orange to pink to gold shifting microflakes and green to gold aurora shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
While this is a jelly base, the shimmer helps add to the opacity – and it builds up really nicely!
Price: $12.00 | Cap: 75 US / 5 UK
Colores de Carol | Hotter Than The Sun
Inspiration:What’s Hotter Than the Surface of the Sun? The Solar Corona
The Sun’s tenuous upper atmosphere is extremely hot, and extremely mysterious.
Description: Hotter Than the Sun is an olive green with a strong reddish brown shift to it, as well as loose scattered holo and ultrachrome chameleon flecks in red to orange to bronze. The base color shows through more in person, but the artificial lighting shining on it shows the shimmery red/brown a tad more. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: None
Copacetic Cosmetics | Practically Inseparable
Inspiration:Inspired by Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood – Nina Tucker
Description: Practically Inseparable is a baby pink crelly base loaded with pearl white flakes and shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $10.00 | Cap: None
Crystal Knockout | Black Hole World
Inspiration:Inspired by the theory that a mysterious Planet X in our solar system could be a black hole.
Description: Black Hole World is a pale lavendery-pink base with purple shimmer and a golden glow, filled with tons of iridescent flakes in aqua, pink, green, and gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $11.00 | Cap: none
Cupcake Polish | Sake Up Close
Inspiration:Inspired by Sake under a microscope
Description: Sake Up Close is a magenta-ish leaning red jelly base loaded with bronze and gold metallic flakes, orange to green to gold iridescent flakes and bronze glitters sprinkled in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Due to flake content, there is a light texture – 1 coat of top coat should smooth it over, but if you have a thinner consistency top coat – you might need 2 coats.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: None
Cuticula | Chemicals React
Inspiration: This Polish was inspired by a photo of beakers with colorful accents. The name was inspired by the song ‘Chemicals React’ by Aly & Aj
Description: Chemicals React is a blue green jelly base packed with various types of shifting iridescent flakes, and silver holo micro flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. This dries with a mild texture but should only need 1 coat of top coat to smooth over.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: None
Cuticula | The Game Changer Duo
Inspiration:Inspired by the science behind pop rocks.
Description: The Game Changer Duo consists of Cinque Base Coat and Limitless Top Coat.
The scent this month is “Pop Rocks” which is described as notes of grape and strawberry, followed with candy sugar and a bit of tangy fizz to finish off this amazing scent. It’s definitely very fruity, sweet and light.
Cinque Treatment Base Coat can be used as a treatment under your manicure or wear it alone to give your nails a nice, glassy shine.
Limitless Top Coat is a quick dry, 5 free top coat.
Price: $16.00 | Cap: None
DIfferent Dimension | Cuticle Oil Duo
Inspiration: Inspired by Science
Description: This is a cuticle oil duo that features Proton and Neutron!
Proton is a sweet cherries with orange cream, coconut and vanilla custard scent. Neutron is sweet cranberry and raspberry scent. Both smell delicious – but Neutron has my heart! Both are sweet and slightly tangy smelling and come in twist up brush applicators.
Price: $8.00 | Cap: None
Different Dimension | It’s Electrifying (Magnetic)
Inspiration: Inspired by Plasma Ball
Description: It’s Electrifying is a purple to pink multichrome magnetic polish with blue to purple to pink iridescent color shifting flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
The magnetic shimmer pull is more apparent in person. When we moved, I left my normal magnets at the old house (or just haven’t found them unpacking yet here…) and only had a really fat magnet here. So it pulled the shimmer into a thick line, which makes it less obvious in photos.
Whether you use a magnet or not though – this is a beautiful shade with lots of shifty colors.
Price: $11.00 | Cap: None
Dollish Polish | Omelette Du Fromage
Inspiration: Inspired by Dexter’s Laboratory
Description: Omelette Du Fromage is a white crelly base packed with micro glitters in shades of black, purple, orange, green and blue. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $13.00 | Cap: No cap US / 25 UK
Emily de Molly | Element Of Strange
Inspiration: Inspired by Bismuth
Description: Element of Strange is a pink to orange to gold to green mutlichrome. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
IMPORTANT: The pigment Emily de Molly ordered didn’t match the original pigment she used in swatcher bottles, so while swatchers will have a similar look – they are NOT exact to what you will get. Check out the Emily de Molly listing on the Polish Pickup site and the photos watermarked Emily de Molly are the accurate shots of what you will receive.
It will be a “similar but not the same” situation with all other swatcher photos.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: 500 US / 50 UK
Esmaltes da Kelly | DeLorean
Inspiration:Inspired by Back to the Future movie time machine
Description: DeLorean is a sheer neutral crelly base with black holographic galaxy glitter, iridescent flakes that shift gold to green, as well as copper to red ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The more coats you use, the more you build it up – but the base itself is incredibly sheer. At first I was like “Hmm” but then I really fell in love with the overall look of this shade. It has a certain elegance to it that I fell in love with.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK
Ethereal Lacquer | Prism
Inspiration:Inspired by Prisms
Description: Prism is a super holo shade. It has a variety of holo going on including linear holo, scattered holo, as well as holographic micro flecks. It’s very sparkly and dazzling in the sunlight. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: none
Fair Maiden Polish | It’s Glow Time
Inspiration:Inspired by Synchronous Fireflies. The synchronous species of fireflies are very special, and they exist only in a handful of places throughout the world. No one is sure why the fireflies flash synchronously. Competition between males may be one reason: they all want to be the first to flash. Or perhaps if the males all flash together they have a better chance of being noticed, and the females can make better comparisons. Fireflies light is bio-luminescent, which makes for a fun inspiration when designing a polish.
Description: It’s Glow Time is a deep teal jelly base with yellow to green shifting shimmer, as well as iridescent orange and green shifting flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $11.00 | Cap: None
Flirtin’ | Constellation Jar
Inspiration:Inspired by DIY Constellation Jar Science Project
Description: Constellation Jar is a deep blue jelly base with holographic micro glitters as well as silver holographic large dot glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

What would you discover?

Glisten & Glow’s Cuticle Remover softens and removes excess cuticle as well as eponychium skin and comes in an easy to use twist-up pen style applicator.

Hit the Bottle Polishes | Positively Charged (Stamping Polish)
Inspiration: Inspired by flesh eating bacteria!

Inspiration: Inspired by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind movie
Description: Meet Me In Montauk is an effect topper with a clear base, loaded with aurora shimmer that shifts blue to purple to pink to green with multichrome micro flakies and holo pigment. I used 1 coat over a black creme for these photos.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: 80 US / 10 UK
Jior Couture | Into The Unknown

Kathleen & Co | Superionic
Inspiration:Inspired by Superionic water, also called superionic ice or ice XVIII is a phase of water that exists at extremely high temperatures and pressures. In superionic water, water molecules break apart and the oxygen ions crystallize into an evenly spaced lattice while the hydrogen ions float around freely within the oxygen lattice.
Description: Superionic is a shifty blue to purple creme. The blue shift goes from a slightly aqua like shift to medium blue to violet. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: None
Hand & Body Sugar Scrub by KBShimmer | Citrus Cooler
Inspiration:Inspired by Ecto Cooler from Ghostbusters. In elementary school, nothing tasted better than a chilled juice box. Taking off that crinkly wrapper and then stabbing that foil hole was always a risky adventure – would you get in without squirting the juice all over? In the late ’80s, one of the coolest drinks to hit the lunchbox was a movie-themed, green-colored, orange-flavored drink featuring our favorite slimy neon green ghost.
Description: Citrus Cooler is inspired by that ectoplasm-inspired drink. A bright and fresh scent, there are notes of orange with grapefruit, lemon and lime, adding to the citrus feel of this scent. Subtle hints of cucumber, jasmine, pineapple, blackberry, and champagne add sparkle and depth for the perfect juice-inspired scent!
This is a very refreshing scent and I have been loving using it in the shower!
KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.
Price: $10.00 | Cap: None
KBShimmer | He Slimed Me!
Inspiration:Inspired by Slimer from Ghostbusters. We all have those classic flicks; the ones that you come across on TV and stop channel surfing to watch again and again. Lucky 13 Lacquer | Good News (Solar)
Inspiration: Unspecified
Description: Good News is a vibrant spring green (indoors) to midnight blue (UV/outdoors) crelly base with aqua to violet color shifting shimmer, orange to pink to gold crystal chameleon flakes, and it glows sky blue in the dark. I was unaware of the glow in the dark aspect until later – so I do not have those photos to share.
I did find this formula a bit thick. I don’t know if it was the polish itself or just the weather here since it was slightly humid and warm the day I swatched this. You might need a couple drops of thinner though to loosen it up a little. It wasn’t a huge deal – but enough that it was worth mentioning.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: 145 US / 10 UK
LynBDesigns | Petri Dish Picasso
Inspiration: Inspired by Agar art

Petrichor Wax Melt | LynBDesigns
Inspiration:Inspired by the smell of the earth after it rains and the science of smell
Description: Petrichor Wax Melt smells like chamomile and jasmine, with hay, ozone, citrus and fresh herbally grass. It’s refreshing and calming, and kinda makes you wish for more rain. It’s the perfect scent to throw into your warmer and sit back with a book and a blanket. Yes I know it’s summer – but I live with someone who keeps the place freezing cold. I’m currently bundled up in a hoodie and sweat pants and still chilly.
Price: $4.50 | Cap: 50
MLF Lacquer | Star Factory
Inspiration:Inspired by star-producing nebulae

The color shift is more obvious in person – however the blue notes are strong and my camera grabbed onto them and only wanted to show hints of the purple shift. In person that purple shift is much stronger.

My Indie Polish | Replicated

Price: $13.00 | Cap: None
My Indie Polish | Sourpuss Exfoliating Soap
Inspiration:
Inspired by “The inspiration for myself was how we can be clean naturally. It only takes the right basic ingredients formed perfectly in nature to clean ourselves. I also love lemons because they are scientifically proven to be useful for just about anything”
Description: Sourpuss soap is lemony and clean and has ground walnut husks to scrub the day off. This will be in a 2 pk set (only 1 is photographed.) The base is sls sles free and has organic lemon grass oil, organic lemon fivefold oil and some yellow coloring.
It does have ground walnut husk – so don’t go too rough when scrubbing with this. If you have really sensitive skin, I would only use this on areas like your heels and such for exfoliation since walnut husk can be rather rough for more sensitive skin. This is ground really fine so I didn’t find it too rough, but everyone is different.
Price: $5.50 | Cap: 25 US / 5 UK

Inspiration:Inspired by Neural Network
Description: Neural Network is a blackened navy blue jelly base loaded with magnetic flakes that shift from green to teal to blue to pink and pink to gold to green crystal flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Because this polish has flecks/flakes that are magnetic – the line will look more scattered and not super sharp. It gives more of a “constellation” vibe this way.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300 US / 20 UK
Necessary Evil | The Water Cycle (Thermal)

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None
Glitter Smoothing TC by Painted Phalanges | Smooth Phalanges
Inspiration: Unspecified
Description: Smooth Phalanges is a glitter smoothing layer applied between polish and top coat to “fill in the grooves” and smooth the final polish. Some polishes are top coat hungry and when it’s dry and settled – there are divots all over. Smooth Phalanges helps prevent that and give a nice even layer.
This is a topper – but does not dry glossy – so if you want a glossy finish – follow it up with a glossy top coat (or matte if you prefer!)
I used 1 coat of Smooth Phalanges over a microglitter bomb of a polish, and then a quick dry top coat over Smooth Phalanges. Below are before and after photos!
Price: $6.00 | Cap: None

Big Bang! Soy Based Polish Remover | Rogue Lacquer
Before I get into this one, I also wanted to say that I had to recycle photos from a previous Polish Pickup. When I loaded my trunk – I also loaded all my giant bottles of Zoya Remove +. I thought I left 2 pump bottles to keep me happy – but apparently I forgot to refill them. I used this remover for the entire post. By the time it was empty and I tossed the bottle – I realized I didn’t do new photos of this remover.
It did work well and kept my skin hydrated throughout the month though.
Inspiration: Big Bang
Description: This is a soy based polish remover so it is gentler on the skin and nails. This is a 2 oz bottle of remover in a glass bottle.
Soy based removers are generally better for the nails since they contain vitamins and oils to moisturize, strengthen and hydrate while still effectively removing polish. They do not work as quick as pure acetone – but they do still get the job done.
The August Big Bang scent is tart lime margaritas with a touch of grapefruit and sweet cherries! I will be buying another bottle because it smelled so good (and obviously worked pretty well!)
Price: $7.00 | Cap: 100

The description says the hot stage is a milky white, but I didn’t see the milky white, I did get a beautiful pastel buttery yellow though.
Price: $14.00 | Cap: None
Soap Frosting by Skyline Soapworks | Bug Juice Buttercream
Inspiration:Inspired by A bright green toxic concoction!
Description: Soap Frosting is a whipped soap that lathers up nicely and is fun to use. My son actually stole this for his new bathroom. He loved the scent (snowcone… strawberry, apricot, peach and candied banana) as well as the color. It’s on the sink edge for hand washing, but he could easily take it into the shower with him as well.
He has already made a formal request that I grab another for him when the shop opens. If he requests something, it’s simply a request. If he makes a “formal” request – he means business.
Price: $14.50 | Cap: 25 US / 10 UK
Skyline Soapworks | Caput Mortuum Artisan Dip Powder
Inspiration:Inspired by Caput Mortuum Artisan Dip Powder
Description: Skyline Soapworks is back with another fun dip powder! This time we have a deep rusty red with copper flecks.
For all steps I used, I went by this Youtube Video, and I do suggest you take a look as she’s very helpful – especially for beginners like me.
This is for the powder only. I do have a 3 piece nail dip liquids set I bought on Amazon before, which is what I used with this powder. No “curing” with a lamp and nothing was overly difficult for me. You will also need files – like buffing blocks to smooth over the dip when done.
Price: $6.75 | Cap: 50 US / 15 UK
SCIENCE! Charm and Page Marker Set | Starlight and Sparkles
Inspiration:Inspired by “My personal favorite branches of science, chemistry and biology.”
Description: An eight piece set, with six paperclip page markers and two clip-on charms. The six page markers are a bottle with a syringe, a microscope, a section of an electrograph (most people will know of these from electrographs of heart or brain activity), a caffeine molecule, a brain, and a section of DNA. The clip-on charms are an Erlenmeyer flask and an atom – carbon, if we’re assuming the atom is uncharged, since there are six electrons. Each charm and page marker has two glass beads, which glow green in the dark.
This is a super cute set and my son picked a few to use as bookmarks for his books.
Price: $15.00 | Cap: 47 US / 3 UK
Starlight Polish | Fetch Me My Lab Coat
Inspiration: The color is inspired by copper and nitric acid, but the true inspiration for Fetch Me My Lab Coat is a quote by chemist Ira Remsen (which is apparently a trimmed down version of the full original).
“While reading a textbook of chemistry, I came upon the statement, nitric acid acts upon copper, and I was determined to see what this meant. Having located some nitric acid, I had only to learn what the words act upon meant. In the interests of knowledge, I was even willing to sacrifice one of the few copper cents then in my possession. I put one of them on the table, opened the bottle marked ‘nitric acid’, poured some of the liquid on the copper, and I prepared to make an observation. But what was this wonderful thing which I beheld? The cent was already changed, and it was no small change either. A greenish- yellow liquid formed and fumed over the cent on the table. The air became coloured dark-red. How could I stop this? I tried by picking up the cent and throwing it out of the window. I learned another fact: nitric acid acts on fingers. The pain led to another unpremeditated experiment. I drew my hands across my trousers and discovered nitric acid acts on trousers. This was the most impressive experiment I have ever performed. I tell of it even now with interest. It was a revelation to me. Plainly the only way to learn about such remarkable kinds of action is to see the results, to experiment, to work in a laboratory.”
Description: Fetch Me My Lab Coat is a teal crelly base with ultra chrome chameleon flakes that shift from red to bronze to green, as well as original Unicorn Pee pigment that shifts from red to gold to green. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 200 US / 100 UK
Emulsified Sugar Scrub by STELLA CHROMA | Misty Morning
Inspiration:Inspired by “The pastures in our farm, which are covered in a fine mist on humid summer mornings. “
Description: Stella Chroma’s Emulsified Sugar Scrub is an incredibly fine particle sugar that’s densely packed in. Dig a little out of the jar, massage into your hands then rinse and keep rubbing it in while rinsing. Your hands will feel smooth, soft and incredible.
The August scent is refreshing and a smell-alike of the popular Herbal Essences shampoo from the 90s. It’s pretty much dead on – so if you loved that scent – this is for you.
Price: $6.50 | Cap: to US / 3 UK

Treo Lacquer | Quantum Entanglement (Magnetic)
Inspiration:Inspired by the phenomenon of Quantum Entanglement which Einstein and others considered to be impossible, as it violated the local realism view of causality (Einstein referring to it as “spooky action at a distance”). Quantum Entanglement is at the heart of the disparity between classical and quantum physics. Amazingly, it has been demonstrated experimentally with photons, neutrinos, electrons, molecules as large as buckyballs, and even small diamonds.
Description: Quantum Entanglement is a black jelly base loaded with purple magnetic shimmer, as well as gold to green to red shifting aurora shimmer, and holo micro flecks. The violet purple magnetic shimmer stands out quite bright against the black jelly base with aurora shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Inspiration:Inspired by Bill Nye the Science Guy
Description: An odor neutralizing fragrance that delights the senses and neutralizes odors in the air with notes of bergawatt tea, wild electric currants with hints of powerline papayas and magnetic magnolia blossoms.
This is a very feminine and floral scent. It has really good throw and scented our entire apartment in just 1 little cube. The scent is a familiar fragrance I recognize from my high school years (1996-2000) but I cannot think of the actual name and it’s been driving me crazy!
Price: $5.00 | Cap: 100 US / 10 UK
Vibrant Vinyls | DUO of Petrichor Scented Base & Top Coat

This month’s scent is Petrichor and it’s an earthy scent but incredibly fresh. So earthy and rain, fresh and slightly musky.
Double Bond:
This revolutionary 2 in 1 base coat is formulated with proteins to fill imperfections and ridges on the surface of the nail leaving you with a smooth even base ready for polish. Vibrant Vinyls added sticky bond base coat to the ridge filler to grab onto your polish and keep it there.
Fast & Hard can be used over wet polish and provides a glossy shine. Plus it plays well with stamping if you “float” the top coat over the design.

Polish Pickup August 2020 | Weird Science
As I was typing this, 5 more items for the month showed up – so I’ll be working on those in just a bit.
Overall – it’s a nice mix of colors for the month. We do lean a bit blue heavy it looks like from the collage. And before anyone points it out – yes, the Unicorn Magic Skin Care item in the collage is the wrong one. That’s for a different month and I didn’t see that I did it until I was typing.
Sorry again for not having matte photos too – something had to give this month with everything going on, and it was that. They will be back next month though!
Wishlisting starts this Sunday – so be ready!
