Spring 2016
New Orleans Collection
Good morning afternoon! When I started typing this it was 6am, and I didn’t have time to finish, so now it’s late afternoon and I finally got it done. I have the OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection review and giveaway up for you today!
I have a few giveaways coming up because I didn’t do anything for my 4 year blogiversary, so I’m scattering them out after the fact. After 4 years, I still love what I do, I still love my swatch sessions and a lot of what this blog has become wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many of my readers, so it’s my way of saying ‘Thank You’. In case you missed the other giveaway that’s almost over, make sure you go enter into the China Glaze Spring 2016 House Of Colour Giveaway.
For Spring 2016, OPI has come out with a New Orleans collection. For the most part, I do love the vibrancy of the collection but it didn’t scream New Orleans to me. The names are perfect though and I loved what they came up with and the cleverness of them.
Let’s take a closer look at each color and then my thoughts overall below… and of course, the giveaway!
OPI Take A Right On Bourbon
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Take A Right On Bourbon Swatch
OPI Take A Right On Bourbon is a metallic pewter with a touch of pink in it. In some lighting it looked almost like a low key rose gold. Brush strokes are visible, but not overly so in comparison to other metallics. I used 3 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Let Me Bayou A Drink
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Let Me Bayou A Drink Swatch
OPI Let Me Bayou A Drink is a soft baby pink with subtle shimmer packed into it. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The first 2 coats went on similar to a pastel, slightly streaky, but the 3rd coat evened it out nicely.
OPI Suzi Nails New Orleans
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Suzi Nails New Orleans Swatch
OPI Suzi Nails New Orleans is a vibrant bubble gum pink creme. I found the formula on this one to be a bit on the thinner side and needed 3 coats for full opacity.
OPI Spare Me A French Quarter
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Spare Me A French Quarter Swatch
OPI Spare Me A French Quarter is one of my favorites in the collection. Spare Me A French Quarter is a gorgeous raspberry creme that isn’t too bright, but isn’t too dark. It’s the perfect balance. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Show Us Your Tips!
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Show Us Your Tips! Swatch
OPI Show Us Your Tips! looks so pretty on. This is a shimmer packed blue leaning periwinkle. The polish itself is on the sheerer side and I did need 3 coats for these photos, but it was worth it. It looks beautiful on and the iridescent shimmer is stunning.
When I was laying in bed last night trying to find a balance between being comfortable and cooling off (seriously – it’s February and we were blasting the air conditioning.) I realized I need to try 1 coat of Show Us Your Tips! over Rich Girls & Po-Boys because the consistency of this shade was sheer enough to possibly make a nice tinted topper.
OPI She’s A Bad Muffuletta!
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | She’s A Bad Muffuletta Swatch
OPI She’s A Bad Muffuletta! is another pretty shade I really enjoyed from the collection. Unfortunately my camera doesn’t do well with bright coral and decided this was bright enough to be treated like a neon, even though it isn’t. She’s A Bad Muffuletta! is a bright red leaning coral creme. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Rich Girls & Po-Boys
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Rich Girls & Po-Boys Swatch
Before I get started, I will say this is NOT color accurate. It’s closer, but a little too bright in comparison to what you will see in person. Not sure what games my camera was playing last night, but it didn’t want to get this one accurately.
OPI Rich Girls & Po-Boys is described as a china blue creme. I really love this color, it’s a little deeper in person. I found the formula to be runny and used 3 thin coats for these photos.
OPI I’m Sooo Swamped!
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | I’m Sooo Swamped! Swatch
OPI I’m Sooo Swamped is a mossy green creme. I really like this shade and this one had one of the better formulas within the collection. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
And I just somehow noticed I have an eyelash or something hanging out on my finger in these photos. I’m observant.
OPI I Manicure For Beads
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | I Manicure For Beads Swatch
I Manicure For Beads is a vibrant grape creme. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Humidi-Tea
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Humidi-Tea Swatch
OPI Humidi-Tea is a pale peachy beige creme loaded with silver shimmer and reddish orange shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya Swatch
OPI Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya is a bit brighter and pinker in person than these photos show. This is a pinkish peach leaning coral creme. Very pretty but slightly camera shy. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Crawfishin’ For A Compliment
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway | Crawfishin’ For A Compliment Swatch
OPI Crawfishin’ For A Compliment is almost like a deeper orange creamsicle shade. It has some peach tones to it as well. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Spring 2016 New Orleans Collection Review & Giveaway Overview
Colorwise, I really enjoyed this collection more than I thought I would. For a New Orleans theme, I was hoping for a bit more oomph in the glitter category, like a snazzy gold glitter. As far as cremes go, the colors are pretty – but most need 3 coats for full, even coverage.
My top picks from this collection are Show Me Your Tips!, Rich Girls & Po-Boys, Spare Me A French Quarter, I Manicure For Beads, I’m Sooo Swamped! and She’s A Bad Muffuletta!
