Happy Monday! I cannot figure out how a 4 day weekend flew by so quickly, but I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday! Today I have the OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight collection to share with you. This collection has a nice mix of shades and finishes as well as some hits and some misses for me. There are 18 shades total, so this will be a photo heavy post.
Also, I apologize for my cuticles, especially in the up close photos. I know it’s not appealing. We’re setting up for tax season at work and opening a lot of boxes and then I was assaulting my cuticles all week with remover (over 100 polishes swatched in the last 4 days) so they’ve seen better days. But trying to stay on target for releases, the show must go on.
Let’s get to it!
Love Is In My Cards
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Love Is In My Cards Swatch
OPI Love Is In My Cards is a perfect red holiday creme. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI I Drive A SuperNova
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI I Drive A SuperNova Swatch
OPI I Drive A SuperNova is a standard silver metallic. I used 2 coats and no top coat for these photos.
OPI Ro-man-ce On The Moon
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Ro-man-ce On The Moon Swatch
Ro-man-ce On The Moon is probably my favorite red of the collection. This is a medium cherry red with dazzling shimmer within it to give it a glowy look but also makes it look borderline metallic. I used 2 easy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
By The Light Of The Moon
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection By The Light Of The Moon Swatch
OPI By The Light Of The Moon is a silver metallic base with silver hex glitter mixed in. The hex glitters are swallowed up by the base, but still can be seen (at least shapewise) in the final manicure. Not my style of polish, but OPI keeps making them, so they must be doing ok. This is the 3rd or 4th variation of it released this year. Keep scrolling a bit though, they also did this with bar glitter.
Let Your Love Shine
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Let Your Love Shine Swatch
OPI Let Your Love Shine is a dark red (almost vampy but not quite) with gold micro glitters packed in. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Comet Closer
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Comet Closer Swatch
OPI Comet Closer is a light gold metallic with gold microglitter in it, which gives the polish a very light texture. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Guys & Galaxies
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Guys & Galaxies Swatch
OPI Guys & Galaxies is the perfect oxblood creme shade. Formula was a touch thin and I needed 3 coats for it, but I think this color is worth it. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat. Below I used a matte top coat and LOVED it that way.
Is This Star Taken?
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Is This Star Taken? Swatch
OPI Is This Star Taken? is a metallic gold base with silver holographic bar glitter mixed in. I just can’t get into this style, but OPI keeps making metallic and glitter combination, I used 2 coats for these photos.
Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Meteorite
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Meteorite Swatch
Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Meteorite is a glitter topper with charcoal diamonds, rose gold chevrons (or what are suppose to be chevrons I think?) and small silver and rose gold hex glitters mixed in. I used 1 coat over OPI Guys & Galaxies.
Press * For Silver
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Press * For Silver Swatch
Press * For Silver is difficult for me to put my finger on colorwise. It’s a bit stronger than a champagne metallic, but not quite a rose gold. I used 2 coats and no top coat for these photos.
No More Mr Night Sky
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI No More Mr Night Sky Swatch
OPI No More Mr Night Sky is a sheer charcoal grey with a light lilac and silver micro fleck shimmer mixed in. This was really sheer and shown is 3 coats and it’s still not opaque.
The Center Of The You-niverse
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI The Center Of The You-niverse Swatch
OPI The Center Of The You-niverse is a black crelly like base with shimmer mixed in. I actually really like this one and used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I’m In The Moon For Love
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI I’m In The Moon For Love Swatch
OPI I’m In The Moon For Love is a dusty plum base with fuchsia shimmer. I used 2 easy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Infrared-y To Glow
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI Infrared-y To Glow Swatch
OPI Infrared-y To Glow is a pink and copper chevron glitter topper with silver holographic hex glitters mixed in. The chevron glitters aren’t evenly cut in length or thickness, and I think that’s what the shape is. I used 1 coat over OPI I’m In The Moon For Love.
Give Me Space
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI Give Me Space Swatch
OPI Give Me Space is a medium blue jelly base with scattered holo particles. OPI, PLEASE make more shades like this. In all of the colors. This is so nice to see and it’s actually pretty gorgeous on.
I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Cosmo With A Twist
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI Cosmo With A Twist Swatch
OPI Cosmo With A Twist is a black jelly base packed with blue and purple micro fleck shimmer. I used 3 thin coats for these photos. This is another stunning shade in the collection.
Super Star Status
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI Super Star Status Swatch
OPI Super Star Status is a silver and gold glitter topper. The small glitters are primarily silver microglitters and then small gold and silver hex glitters are mixed in. I used 2 coats on it’s own and quite like it this way, but you can also add a little glitz to a creme as well by using it as a top coat.
Ce-less-tial Is More
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection OPI Ce-less-tial Is More Swatch
OPI Ce-less-tial Is More is a slightly pink toned silver glitter polish. There are some silver holographic micro glitters mixed in too for some sparks of color, which is lovely. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Bonus Nail Art
You don’t get to see this often, but I did some nail art using Press * For Silver as a base, X Pattern Nail Vinyls from Twinkled T and Cosmo With A Twist.
OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Overview
It’s a lot of photos, I know – but great job hanging in there. First of all, I apologize again for the ragged cuticles and I bought new cotton balls on Amazon which left behind a lot more fibers than I am use to, so I won’t be doing that again. Now onto the important stuff. Do I like this collection? About half of it gets a thumbs up from me. The other half I could do without. Some shades like Give Me Space and Cosmo With A Twist got me excited, but then shades like Is This Star Taken? and By The Light Of The Moon made me shake my head. I felt this collection was very red and metallic heavy. I like the metallic glitters, but I could take or leave the metallic polishes. The names were great, in my opinion, and as I said, I really only liked about half of this collection.
Now please OPI – stop with the metallic bases drowning out hex and bar glitter and bring in some more shades like Give Me Space!
Price: $9.50 retail
WHERE TO FIND THEM: ULTA, ULTA.com, and select professional salons.
What did you think of this collection? Did you like it? Are you happy to see so many metallics? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
