The OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection landed recently so of course I had to get moving on it. I’m a little under the weather, so sorry for any typos that might be in this post.
For this collection OPI did a little something different, and I’m not just talking about bringing lighter shades into the mix. 12 of these shades are being moved directly into the OPI permanent line and only 3 are limited edition. So if you fall in love with any of the 12 in the permanent line – you can get backups at your leisure (and I know of 3 that I need backups of in the future)
The OPI Venice collection brings us to Italy (which I’m sure you knew already) and they are romantic colors inspired by Baroque period decadence.
Let’s jump into the collection. I’m going to start off with the 3 Limited Edition shades. Each swatch was done using Girly Bits Smooth Move Base Coat & What A Rush Top Coat unless otherwise stated. Because it’s a 15 piece collection and a lot of cremes, I only did 1 shot of the creme shades and only did closeup shots of shades with a little something extra to them.
Baroque…But Still Shopping
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Baroque…But Still Shopping Swatch
I’m going to start with Baroque…But Still Shopping just to get it out of the way. I said it during the review of the OPI Spring 2015 collection when I saw Pineapples Have Peelings Too! and it’s that I dislike metallic bases with hex glitters. While Baroque…But Still Shopping is better than Pineapples Have Peelings Too! it’s just barely better for me. This is the one shade in the collection I would have skipped.
Baroque…But Still Shopping is a light goldish, shimmery metallic base with gold hex and square glitters mixed in. I used 2 coats for theses photos and no top coat.
When I first saw the bottle I thought it was a top coat with a fine shimmer/micro glitter base and then the mix of hex and square glitters. I actually was like “OHHH!” but then I put it on and said “Noooo!”
St. Mark’s the Spot
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection St. Mark’s the Spot Swatch
St. Mark’s the Spot is a deep metallic blue. I used 2 coats for these photos and a top coat. I did experience light staining with St. Mark’s the Spot, so be sure to use a good base coat with it.
One thing I will say is that this is a gorgeous blue and I was expecting it to be brush stroke city, but it wasn’t. It actually had very minimal as you can see from the photo below.
Venice the Party?
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Venice The Party? Swatch
Venice the Party? is the final Limited Edition shade and it’s also the last metallic shade in the Venice collection. Venice the Party? is a metallic, shimmery turquoise. In person it has a nice glow to it from the shimmer. It also has some light, visible brush strokes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
A Great Opera-tunity
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection A Great Opera-tunity Swatch
A Great Opera-tunity is a melon creme. Application was super easy with this shade and I used 2 coats and a top coat.
It’s a Piazza Cake
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection It’s a Piazza Cake Swatch
It’s a Piazza Cake is a nice rich pumpkin creme. It’s actually a slight dustier in person and for some reason it wanted to be bright in my photos, but it isn’t. If you love Fall orangey shades – this one is for you. Perfect application in just 2 coats and a top coat.
Worth a Pretty Penne
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Worth a Pretty Penne Swatch
Worth a Pretty Penne is kind of a muted rose gold and pewter shimmer. Another nice Fall shade for sure. I used 2 easy coats and no top coat for these photos.
Tiramisu for Two
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Tiramisu for Two Swatch
Tiramisu for Two is a pale almond nude creme. There are actually 2 nude cremes in this collection, and I’m not a huge fan of nude cremes. Tiramisu for Two worked best for my skintone. I used 2 coats and a top coat.
Be There in a Prosecco
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Be There in a Prosecco Swatch
Be There in a Prosecco is the second nude in the collection and is a pale ivory creme. It was a little too yellow tinged for me personally. I used 3 thin coats for these photos and a top coat.
Gelato on My Mind
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Gelato on My Mind Swatch
Gelato on My Mind was the shade I was most looking forward to from the Venice collection and it didn’t disappoint me. Gelato on My Mind is a pale minty blue creme. I used 2 coats and a top coat for this.
This is just a nice, crisp and refreshing creme to me.
Amore at the Grand Canal
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Amore at the Grand Canal Swatch
Amore at the Grand Canal is a very slightly dusty cool toned red, and it’s an incredibly rich red that is beautiful. I used 2 easy coats for this photo. Use a base coat, this one will stain a bit.
Gimme a Lido Kiss
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Gimme a Lido Kiss Swatch
Gimme a Lido Kiss is the second red in the collection (and for Fall, I was a little surprised OPI only did 2 reds… since we know how much OPI loves putting reds out). Gimme a Lido Kiss is a slightly warmer red with small pink flecked shimmer mixed in. The pink doesn’t come out much on the nail, but it does give the red a nice glowing look.
Again, use a base coat – this one will leave some red behind.
I Cannoli Wear OPI
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection I Cannoli Wear OPI Swatch
I Cannoli Wear OPI is an incredibly soft grey creme. I feel like this is a nice base coat for nail art if you want a soft color but don’t want a white creme. I used 2 coats and a top coat.
Purple Palazzo Pants
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Purple Palazzo Pants Swatch
Purple Palazzo Pants is a soft pink tinted lavender creme. I used 3 thin coats for this photo. I found this to be a thin formula, but not watery. It was still easy to use, but required 3 coats to get a nice opaque look.
O Suzi Mio
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection O Suzi Mio Swatch
O Suzi Mio now we’re getting into the more common, vampy Fall shades. O Suzi Mio is a deep eggplant purple creme. I love purples, so I loved this one. Application was really nice with O Suzi Mio and I only needed 2 easy coats and a top coat.
My Gondola or Yours?
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection My Gondola or Yours? Swatch
My Gondola or Yours? almost tricked me. Almost. This is a black creme. Pretty standard right? In the bottle I saw black creme, on the nail I saw black creme… then my light hit it and I saw the faintest shimmer in the polish. So I looked closer. Yup – it’s got a VERY faint shimmer laced throughout it. I almost missed that – but there it is. You can see it towards the tip of my nail in the photo below.
The shimmer is a nice touch to a fairly standard color, but honestly – it’s not strong enough to make you need it. Seriously, it’s barely noticeable. I used 2 coats and a top coat for these photos.
OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Overview
I have a few thoughts on this collection, but I’m not feeling that great (and quickly declining as I type) so I hope I can get this out in this post the way it is in my head. It’s a nice mix of colors from super light to super dark. It’s a little different seeing such Spring like shades mixed in, but I like it. Application wise, I think this is one of the best collections OPI has made in awhile as far as only needing 2 coats for most and not being full of streaks, unevenness or anything along those lines. I would have liked to see one of the nude cremes yanked for maybe a chocolatey brown or just 1 more color that screams Fall, but if that’s my only real issue, then I have to say they did a damn good job.
Actually scratch that – don’t pull a nude, pull Baroque…But Still Shopping. I just cannot get into this metallic base that swallows the glitters thrown in. In the bottle it looks great. On the nail it looks like a mess for me.
As I said earlier, 12 of these shades will be thrown into the core collection. So that’s great news for those short on funds going into Fall – it’s not a race to make sure you get them immediately. Grab the ones you really want and the rest will be there in a few months when you decide to get them. The only 3 you will need to grab quicker are Venice the Party?, Baroque…But Still Shopping, and St. Mark’s the Spot since those are the only 3 that are limited edition.
Geez, I guess I’m wordy when I’m feeling off.
Full collection will also be available in OPI GelColors if you prefer gel to the normal lacquers.
Price: $9.50 retail
WHERE TO FIND THEM: ULTA, ULTA.com, and select professional salons.
What did you think of the OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection? Do you like the mix of colors or do you wish they went more traditional with Fall shades? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below
