LipSense Purple Reign

After hearing about LipSense for a couple months and being extremely curious about the claims made, I had the chance to try it out and share my thoughts with all of you. Today I have LipSense Purple Reign to share!

Pretty much as soon as the LuLaRoe hype seemed to die down just a tad, I started getting invited to LipSense Facebook groups. Lip color that lasts all day? Yeah of course I’m intrigued. I love makeup, but I’m lazy. I rarely reapply my lip color unless it’s a special occasion.  It’s just how I am.  I did a little searching, Googled some swatches and I was a little more interested. They looked pretty nice.

Then I saw the price tag.

Nope. Closed out. Done.  Not at all what I was expecting. And this was before I knew you needed a special gloss to go with it, which made it a little pricier.

I’m not trying to deter you from jumping in, just going through my initial reaction.

Then Anne from Betty’s Beauty Bazaar contacted me asking if I wanted to give LipSense a try.  I had turned down a couple offers to review, but I’ve known Anne in the blogging world for a bit and I trusted her judgement so I agreed. She asked me to select a color and I picked Purple Reign.

A few days later I received my package and it contained LipSense Purple Reign, Glossy Gloss and Oops Remover.

The next day I wore Purple Reign and application was interesting, but not at all difficult. I had to shake the tube and then I applied a thin layer on. After 15 seconds I applied a second, and then 15 more seconds and I applied a third. Then I topped it with Glossy Gloss.

A few things happened on the first day I wasn’t expecting:

  1. There was a fairly quick stinging sensation when I first applied Purple Reign. I wasn’t aware of it, or that it could happen so it took me by surprise. It was quick though, like 5 seconds and done.
  2. I was grateful Anne included Oops Remover.
  3. When you apply LipSense it feels dry and sticky all at the same time. If you touch your lips together between coats it will feel like they are stuck for a moment. But it’s not a wet, sticky, normal gloss feel.  The feeling instantly goes away once you apply the special Glossy Gloss.
  4. It had a light floral scent. I didn’t know it had it. Another friend who tried Lipsense didn’t notice the scent, but others have. It’s not nauseating or overpowering to me, but it’s there. Once you add Glossy Gloss the scent goes away.
  5. My lips naturally exfoliate with LipSense. Towards the end of the first day my lips were peeling. It wasn’t obvious to those around me, but if I ran my teeth along my lips, it would bring up a little lip skin.
  6. The color does in fact last all day.

I actually asked Anne about all of these things I experienced and she was incredibly patient with me and my silly questions and answered each one. My first question was about the peeling I was experiencing, and it is actually completely normal. That night when I was getting ready for bed, I used a sugar scrub on my lips to remove the rest of the peelie lips and  the next day I woke up and my lips were the softest they’d been in a long time.

Those were my observations the first day I wore it. I’ve had it for about a month now, and I’ve worn it several times (at least 15 I’d say) and I never had to reapply the color itself, the gloss does need to be reapplied though. I actually forgot my Glossy Gloss at home the first day, and the color wore off just a tiny bit in the center of my lips.

LipSense Purple Reign

There’s Purple Reign on. I put this on at 6 am and I took this photo around 3pm. Only thing I reapplied was the Glossy Gloss. From what I’ve noticed, as long as I apply any of the glosses I’ve since purchased from LipSense – the color will look like this up until my bedtime around 10pm. Then I use a lip scrub and I have super soft lips. Apply a bit of balm and they are ready for the next day.

It looks pretty darn good for having made it through multiple cups of coffee, breakfast and lunch.

The Glossy Gloss cannot really be replaced with any other gloss. This particular gloss is special to LipSense and you can wear it by itself, but you cannot use another lip gloss instead.

There’s a closeup of the Glossy Gloss wand I’ve been using all month, it’s tinted a little pink from the time I forgot to wait 15  seconds to apply it over my LipSense – but after almost a month of use, there isn’t color transfer on it.

LipSense actually stays put.

I’ve since splurged a bit on LipSense. I’ve purchased 3 more glosses and 8 colors (obviously not all are pictured… some are still in transit to me)

So while I initially balked at the pricetag, once I tried it I became hooked. This got me quicker than LuLaRoe leggings.

I do still love my leggings though.

So how much is LipSense? It runs about $25-$28 for each color and $20 for each gloss.

Yes I know, that was my reaction too.

I have since bought more though. Once I tried it, it was entirely worth it to me. I don’t have to reapply my lip color throughout the day, and so far each color I have purchased has worked really well on me color wise. I bought a couple more glosses to jazz up the colors when I feel like it.I grabbed a silver glitter gloss which adds a fine silver glitter on top, a pearl gloss I’m still waiting on, and my favorite – Bouganvillea gloss which adds a tint of pink to any color you wear and a subtle shimmer.

I need the Opal Gloss though Anne if you can let me know when you get it in stock.

What colors did I splurge on?

Fleur de Lisa (mainly for the name, but the color is pretty too!)

Sheer Berry

Diamond Caramel Apple

Crimson Red

First Love

Lexie Beary

Bella

Strawberry Shortcake

Violette

and Roseberry.

I still have a list of more I want to buy.  This was all purchased in a month since trying Purple Reign.

My favorites so far are Purple Reign and Strawberry Shortcake.

If you want to see reviews on any of the shades I’ve purchased, let me know. This wasn’t a “Hey it was sent to review and I love it!” I’ve actually spent about $300 in a month on them which shows I actually do love them.

Sorry, I know this review is kind of all over the place!

So to wrap it up, if you want to see Anne’s current selection over at Betty’s Beauty Bazaar, make sure you take a peek. The inventory changes at a good pace and if you want to know when something will be back in stock, just ask her! I did find most of the swatches to be pretty color accurate on the site, and if you have a different skin tone than the main photo, click on the LipSense shade you are looking at, and most have a collage of photos on various skin tones.

LipSense Colors run about $25-$28 a piece and Glosses are $20 each.

There are (I think) 70 LipSense colors on the market and 11 or so different types of glosses depending on your preference, but I would suggest starting with the Glossy Gloss.

You can also layer the LipSense shades to make your own custom color, but I haven’t done that yet!

Have you tried LipSense yet? What are your thoughts?

I’m waiting for Pink Champagne to come back into stock. After my first shades I definitely want more and other glosses. This stuff surprised me so much.

Were you like me initially with the price tag? I was FLOORED! But it’s worth it! Pink Champagne is on my list to grab as well!

Wow, what a gorgeous shade on you! Wish I could wear liquid matte lipsticks on my super dry lips

Have you tried them? They are a bit different than typical mattes. Very thin formula so it’s like painting your lips and you build it up. The gloss helps hydrate it too. It’s not for everyone, I totally get that – but they might surprise you!

Isn’t it great when you finally meet a makeup product that is created to address your specific needs and it works so well? That shade is gorgeous on you!

That shade is so pretty and something I’d definitely wear
