KBShimmer Birthstone 2016 Collection

Press Sample of KBShimmer Birthstone 2016 Collection

So last week I was sitting at work when an email popped into my inbox saying KBShimmer had a new collection coming. My first thought was “Kinda early for Spring…” and then I saw she squeezed a collection in between Winter/Holiday and the Spring collection. So tonight, I have the KBShimmer Birthstone 2016 Collection swatches and review to share with you all!

I’m not gonna do too much chatter in this post other than to say that these are reflective due to all the silver flakes in them and my lighting setup isn’t very friendly to it. I tried to angle as much as possible to eliminate some glare, so I do apologize for that.

So I don’t sound too repetitive in each description – I used 2 coats of each polish and no top coat for every photo you see.

We’ll get this going in month order.

KBShimmer Birthstone 2016 Collection Overview

KBShimmer Birthstone Collection Macro Collage

I really love KBShimmer’s take on birthstones. A lot that I see are just scattered or linear holographics (which I also love, don’t get me wrong) but the flakes, holo sparkle and jelly bases are really well done in this particular collection. My favorites are Garnet, Amethyst, Sapphire, Ruby and Black Pearl.

I had no application issues and used 2 coats and no top coat for all 12 sets of photos.

Price: $8.75 each

Black Pearl – June baby and hello! Capt. Jack Sparrow! Garnet is gorgeous too. I’m surprised that even though I’m usually a dark color person in winter, I really, really like Aquamarine. Definitely grabbing some of these come January.

Garnet is one of my favorites! Aquamarine is a lot prettier in person as well, the silver reflection picked up the black of my camera a bit!

I really love some of these, and I’m disappointed with some others. I’m a March baby, and this is such a dirty looking blue to me.I was also excited to hear that black pearl would be used for June, but the polish is really missing the multichrome flair that I love about black pearls. I do love January and July’s polishes a lot!

My guess is that because it’s “Birthstone 2016” this might be a collection KBShimmer is looking to release every year with a different style. Making 1 or 2 multichrome would have thrown it off a bit with a flow for the whole collection. As for Aquamarine, the silver flakes are incredibly reflective so it was hard to get a clear shot, but it’s a very pale blue jelly and the silver picked up the grey bits. It’s prettier in person.

Stunning swatches! Sapphire, my birthstone, is beautiful!
(And lol, I swatched a birthstone indie polish yesterday, such a coincidence ;) )

I think she did a really good job of capturing the colors of each birth stone– as a June baby I’m delighted to see “Black Pearl” instead of the standard white/pink polish the month usually gets. And I also like that they aren’t just plain old holos!

I may be biased cuz I’m a December baby, but I think Dec has the prettiest birthstone!

At the moment I am not too much into this kind of glittery stuff but I must admit I usually can’t resist birthstone themed collection! My birthstone would be the Blue Topaz and the colour is awesome!

I love this whole collection and I’ve been waiting not-so-patiently for swatches since I saw the promo pics, so thank you! I will probably pick up Sept/Sapphire, April/Diamond, & Dec/Topaz, and possibly the July/Ruby. I’m an October baby, so the Pink Tourmaline will probably find it’s way into my cart as well, even though I probably have all the pink polishes I can use already. (Well, who am I kidding, at 250 bottles, I have more of EVERY polish than I can use, hahaha!) Pink for October does get a little old, especially now that Breast Cancer Awareness is so big, and I have always liked opals better anyhow, but I can understand how making an opal-y polish that fit the theme wouldn’t really work. Overall, a great collection and I really love KBShimmer as a company. Definitely picking some of these up when they’re released!
