As time goes on, it’s becoming easier and easier for people around the globe to become keyboard warriors. They know their words can hurt, but they continue to say things that could be incredibly damaging to someone’s confidence and self esteem. Sadly, it’s not just limited to the internet. When I drop my son off at school, I sometimes catch conversations kids are having on the playground and I’m shocked by the things they say to each other. It baffles me that in this day and age, so many people can be so negative and don’t seem to care. It’s almost like their day isn’t complete unless they have torn someone down. How have we come to this?
As a girl, I see so many things showing us how we should look to be “perfect” and I’m far from it. I’m short (5’2″) a bit overweight and far from model material. Do I think less of myself? No. Do others think less than me? Most likely.
Did you know that 52% of girls think that negativity they see online damages their confidence? It’s true that some corners of social media (and the internet at large) can make us feel less-than-amazing sometimes. It’s important to remember that our words have power – and now, there’s a great way to remind ourselves, thanks to Dove.
Choose Dove and support building self-esteem in 20 million girls by 2020.
Dove is encouraging women and girls to change the conversation and make social media a more positive place for beauty and body confidence. It all begins when you head to Target, and pick up three of your favorite Dove products to get a free #SpeakBeautiful bracelet. Then, every time you type, you’ll look down and be reminded to put a positive message out there! It’s a beautiful thing.
So head to your local Target and pick up any 3 Dove items and pick up your free bracelet. Maybe you need it, maybe you know a friend who needs it to give them a boost.
Wear the bracelet and remember to #SpeakBeautiful on social media, where it’s the easiest to hurt someone. But carry it into day to day life. You never know when your words can be someone else’s tipping point.
#SpeakBeautiful and be someone’s light.
