Happy Sunday, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms of all kinds out there, and also to the dad’s who took over the role of being a mom as well. Today I have a couple posts for you, and to start we’ll be looking at the China Glaze Summer 2017 Summer Reign Collection.

The China Glaze Summer 2017 Summer Reign Collection is a 12 piece collection with an assortment of neons, mattes, metallics, jellies and cremes. There is a nice assortment of finishes and colors within this collection and a couple standouts.

Let’s take a look!

China Glaze All Glammed Up

All Glammed Up is the only lighter, almost pastel like shade of the bunch. This is a light minty green creme. I was expecting application to be finicky, but it was actually really nice for me. There was no patchiness or streaks, which I was expecting. I did 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Now, I love minty shades, so I was drawn to this one, but it looks very close to the same shade as Too Much Of A Good Fling from the Spring 2017 collection. Kind of surprised me to see it released back to back. There might be a slight difference in color – but they are incredibly close.

China Glaze Chroma Cool

Chroma Cool is a silver chrome-ish metallic. It’s kind of in between for me. Application wise I was fairly impressed, it applied very fluid and with very minimal brush strokes. I did use 3 thin coats for full opacity though.

China Glaze Emerald Bae

Emerald Bae is a slightly dusty emerald green with a crelly like formula. It has the squishy look of a jelly but the opacity of a creme. I did need 3 thin coats for full opacity and a top coat to finish it off.

China Glaze Flame-Boyant

Flame-Boyant is an incredible bright, almost neon, warm toned red. It dries down naturally to a satin formula (almost matte but not totally) which I forgot to photograph. Sorry! I was watching the new season of Prison Break while doing these swatches, and I must have been swept up on that and did a top coat without thinking.

This had a beautiful formula. It applied perfectly in 2 coats without any fuss. I used 2 coats and a top coat for these photos.

China Glaze High Standards

High Standards is a dull bronze chrome-ish metallic. I did 2 coats and no top coat for these photos. Minimal brush strokes are visible, but really the formula was quite good aside from that.

China Glaze I Truly Azure You

I Truly Azure you was a pain to photograph. This is a vibrant slightly green tinged blue with turquoise shimmer laced throughout. My photos didn’t pick up on the green hues as much as I had hoped. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Look up more swatches though, I’m sure someone did a better job than me nailing the photography of this particular shade. It’s worth buying though, I’ll tell you that much. Truly beautiful.

China Glaze Rosé My Name

Rosé My Name is a metallic, bright berry with pink shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

China Glaze Simply Fa-Blue-less

Simply Fa-Blue-Less is a royal blue jelly. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This has a thinner formula, so beware of flooding. I picked up just a little at a time to apply it without flooding. It’s a really nicely done jelly blue though. I didn’t have any staining issues either.

China Glaze Sultry Solstice

Getting into some neons now and I’ll have to say, I was overjoyed that I actually got this one on my camera with minimal fiddling. It’s a miracle.

Sultry Solstice is a neon traffic cone orange. It does dry down to a semi matte formula, but I did top coat these photos. I used 3 thin coats and top coat, and my camera cooperated.

China Glaze Summer Reign

I already showed this one on social media. Summer Reign carries the same name as the collection, and for me – it was one of the standouts of the collection. I’ll be showing it with and without top coat.

Summer Reign is a bright, warm violet matte with shimmer. I found the formula to be really nice, and you can even see in my closeup shots, it looks like a flawless, or near flawless matte formula. It didn’t dry right away so I had time to evenly coat each nail before it started to dry, which allowed a nice, even finish. I did still need 3 thin coats for these photos. In the first set I will show Summer Reign on it’s own, and then I’ll show it with top coat.

China Glaze Sunset Seeker

China Glaze Sunset Seeker I have some mixed feelings about. As far as color, it’s a bright, vivid slightly reddish orange that dries to a smooth matte formula. However, I had self leveling issues that threw it off a bit. It was slower to dry than a typical matte, so the streaking wasn’t an issue, but I couldn’t get it to level out. With top coat (which I’ll also show) it’s not visible or all that noticeable. Without top coat though, you can see it a bit.

I used 3 thin coats and no top coat for the first set of photos, and with top coat for the final 3 photos.

China Glaze Sun-set The Mood

To start, I apologize for the photo quality of these ones. I couldn’t get these to photograph correctly so I resorted to my cell phone and it was much closer to the real thing. Sometimes I’m ok with sacrificing quality for color accuracy.

Sun-set The Mood is a  warm neon pink that borders on a coral. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

China Glaze Summer 2017 Summer Reign Collection Overview

Application wise, I was actually fairly impressed with this collection. Considering the amount of polishes that dry down to a satin or matte finish, the formulas were much better than some past shades China Glaze has done. A lot of the past ones dried down so quickly, there wasn’t time to paint the whole nail, which resulted in dragging and streaks. These mattes/satins dried down slower and gave more time for an even coat. The metallics were also quite nice application wise with far fewer brush strokes being visible.

The only issues really worth mentioning were that Simply Fa-Blue-Less had a thinner consistency and Sunset Seeker didn’t self level. Otherwise, the formulas were nicely done.

My top picks for this collection are: Summer Reign, Flame-Boyant, I Truly Azure You, Emerald Bae and despite the formula, I really liked the color of Sunset Seeker.

Hi Lisa! I was wondering if you had Hot Flash, from last year’s summer collection. If so, is it quite similar to Flame Boyant? Thank you so much for all your wonderful swatches and reviews, it’s very helpful when shopping!

Hi Linda! I do have them both and while the red is similar, Hot Flash was a bit lighter shade of red. I’ll try to dig it up and do a comparison for you!

I really like the summer reign purple and the 3 metallics. I’m not a fan of cremes or pastels but that purple is gorgeous. I’d probably put on a holo topper like Revlon Holographic Pearls because I like sparkle. I don’t like matte polishes either. These shades are all beautiful, though, and I’m sure the collection will do well.

I like Rose’ My Name the best since it seems different than most polishes.
