Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette Swatches & Review

by Lisa Heath

Purchased by Me

I really am trying to post what I splurge on a little more often.  I think it’s interesting to see what items people purchase for themselves.

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette was inspired by the rain forest’s deep orchid hues at dusk, Tarte’s limited-edition eye and cheek palette has everything you need to create sultry and sophisticated day to night looks.

Each shade in the palette is infused with colored clay, which naturally color-corrects as it supports oil control, this makeup provides longer wear and truer color payoff. This modern ingredient from the mountainous regions of Brazil brightens, evens, and soothes skin, while the velvety formula glides on and delivers rich color—without settling into fine lines and wrinkles.

Tarte Palette Closed

When I first saw Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette, I was sold on the packaging.  The items inside look pretty awesome too – but as I’ve said time and time again… I will buy anything with nice packaging. Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette is simple, sleek and different.  When I first saw it, I thought it would be a bit smaller, fit in the palm of your hand size.  I was pretty happy when it showed up and it was more like the size of a CD.  So for the price ($38.00) you get a good amount of product.

Then you open it up to the inside…

Tarte Palette OPen

In the center is Unleashed blush, the top 2 shades are (left to right) Champagne highlighter and Park Ave Princess bronzer.  The bottom half of the palette (going around from left to right) Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve,  Plum Away With Me, Up to No Gold, Tan-gled Up in you, Down Turn a-Brown.

The top half of the compact is a nice, fairly large mirror.

Now a closer look at the colors.

Unleashed Blush

Tarte Blush

While I like the color of Unleashed, the blush didn’t feel as smooth and silky as I know most of their blushes to be, so that was a little disappointing.  It’s still wearable for me, but I wish the formula blended a bit better and didn’t seem so chalky.  The color was a lighter pink with a touch of plum (which is generally my preferred shade to wear).

Champagne Highlighter & Park Ave Princess Bronzer

Tarte Highlighter and Bronzer

Now these are 2 shades I can really get into!  Champagne highlighter has a velvety texture to it and blends really easily.  I have some dry patches on my face though and have to make sure I’m nice and moisturized or some of the flecks get caught up on the dry patches, so watch out for that.  Park Ave Princess blended nicely and has a nice silky, matte formula.

Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve & Plum Away With Me Eyeshadows

Tarte Eyeshadow 1

(from Left to Right: Bare To Explore, Make A Mauve and Plum Away With Me)

The eyeshadows in this set were fantastic.  Silky, smooth and easy to blend.

Bare to Explore is a matte pink beige

Make A Mauve is a plum mauve

Plum Away With Me (the star of the palette for me) is a dark plum

Up to No Gold, Tan-gled Up in you & Down Turn a-Brown

Tarte Eyeshadow 2

(from Left to Right: Up to No Gold, Tan-gled Up in you, Down Turn a-Brown.)

Up to No Gold is a beautiful gold

Tan-gled Up in You is a matte tan

Don’t Turn A-Brown is a matte dark brown

Overview

This palette is going to be receiving a LOT of love from me this Fall.  I love the neutral shades and the dash of plum shadows mixed in (which I’ve been seeing a lot of so far!)  The blush was the only product in the compact I wasn’t thrilled with.  I can work with it, so I still would have picked it up regardless.

Pigmentation was perfect on everything else and it’s a completely wearable palette.

Price: $38.00

Where To Buy: Sephora & ULTA

This palette IS Limited Edition, so once it’s sold out, that’s it.  I recommend it completely and even considered buying a backup.  The price point is good overall for the quality of the palette.

Very pretty palette. I love the look of it. The shades are fairly close to my Tarte Mattelicious palette, so I’ll pass but it sure is appealing

This palette was probably one of my fave purchases this season. The neutrals with gold and plum look great on me, and the bronzer and highlighter are perfect for my fair skin.
