China Glaze On Safari Swatches and Review

China Glaze On Safari Swatches and Review

I have 5 of the China Glaze On Safari swatches to show you today!  On Safari is the first Fall 2012 collection I’ve gotten my hands on and I’m always excited when new seasons near… that always means a ton more polishes to add to the ever growing collection!

Now I’ll admit, when I first saw the collection I was unsure of it, but the bottles do a lot of these colors absolutely no justice!  I had a surprise favorite in this group!  Lets get started!

Call Of The Wild:

Call of the Wild is a deep brown with a tinge of burgundy to it.  Probably my least favorite of the group, but mainly because it’s darker than I would usually wear.  Application was smooth and easy on this one, the first coat looked mildly streaky but the second coat evened it out.

Purr-fect Plum:

Purr-fect Plum is a deep berry creme color.  I thought this would be my favorite, but it surprisingly wasn’t (GASP!  I know!) .  I  did love this one, make no mistake, it just wasn’t my #1.  I used 2 coats for this mani and a glossy top coat.

Man Hunt:

Man Hunt is a vibrant medium blue creme.  I actually expected it to be darker on the nail, but was a happy that it wasn’t.  Again, 2 coats and this one was good to go.  Gorgeous blue.

Elephant Walk:

Alright, are you ready for this?  This was my favorite of the 5 I tested out.  I rarely reach for grey shades of polishes, but for some reason this one was just different for me.  Elephant Walk is a medium grey with just the slightest hint of silver shimmer.  I know this one will get the most use already.  I used 2 coats for this picture.

I’m Not Lion:

Now for the glitzy polish of the collection!  I’m Not Lion is a difficult glitter to describe… when I look at the bottle sitting on my desk it looks like a pale holographic gold, when I put it on it looked more like a silvery holo glittery with hints of gold.  Either way, I loved it.  I have 1 coat of I’m Not Lion over Elephant Walk in this photo.

Ok, I will admit that the 5 polishes I reviewed from the On Safari Collection surprised me.  I already purchased Jungle Queen so I can add that one in too.

China Glaze Nail Lacquers can be found in most major Beauty Supply stores and generally retails for $5.99 – $7.00

Will you be grabbing any colors from this collection?

Final Thoughts

Yay for a new season and new colors! Like I said, the polishes I received surprised me! I already purchased Jungle Queen and plan on grabbing a few more. Whether you like vampy colors or glitzy colors, you can find something in this collection!

China Glaze Capitol Colours Collection – Riveting and Harvest Moon – Review and Swatches

China Glaze Capitol Colours Collection – Riveting and Harvest Moon – Review and Swatches

In keeping with the powerful themes and messages of the story, the collection of nail polish will be inspired exclusively by one of the book’s distinct settings – the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.

After a long day at work I came home to a wonderful package sitting on my porch!  China Glaze sent me Riveting and Harvest Moon Nail Lacquers to review from their Capital Colours line that is set to release on March 1st.  China Glaze, a division of American International Industries announced that they had partnered with studio powerhouse Lionsgate on a collection of nail polish to debut in conjunction with the March 23, 2012 release of THE HUNGER GAMES.

Riveting is a gorgeous fiery orange with gold shimmer.  A really stunning color, and I’m not even a huge fan of orange.  I used 2 coats of Riveting with no issues at all!  Loved this color!!

Harvest Moon is an amazing copper metallic.  I really didn’t think that the color in the bottle would translate perfectly to my nails, but it did – and I was absolutely shocked!   I used 2 coats of Harvest Moon and for the most part it was good, but I had issues with it getting to the edge on my nail (on the sides) like it just didn’t want to.  If I happened to cover the sides of my nails, it’s because I got it on my skin and had no choice.  Riveting definitely applied better, but this is such a pretty color I think I’ll let the application issue I had slide.

I am looking forward to receiving the full collection late next week (I preordered the entire thing) and getting these two colors really got me even more excited about it!

China Glaze Magnetix Collection Review and Swatches

China Glaze Magnetix Collection Review and Swatches

I got my hands on the entire Magnetix Collection today!  I was so thrilled that I got it and inspected the polishes and was quite please that even WITHOUT the magnet, these are all wearable colors.  The magnet itself was different than I expected.  I thought it would be 3 magnets that were separate but its actually one U shaped magnet with all 3 designs on it (the orange horseshoe in the picture, thats the top of the magnet under is each design, one on each end of the U shape and one down in the center).

I got home and started swatching.  My magnet box came with an insert with instructions and said to apply 1 coat of China Glaze Magnetix polish and then hold the magnet over it for 10-15 seconds.  Easy enough… well not as easy as I had hoped.  My nails are curved a lot in both directions.  From left to right there is a deepish curve and from cuticle to tip there is enough curve that the magnet was irritating me.  I finally got the hang of it, but the Arrow design (at the bottom of the “U” shape) would not come out right for me.  I thought it was the magnet so Nick, being the good sport that he is, tried it on his perfectly flat nails and got a PERFECT ARROW DESIGN.  So it was the shape of my nails that caused issues with that design.  Either I would get a nice arrow effect JUST in the center of my nail or I would get a wonky wavy C shape instead.  Also the smell of the polish is a little different than other polishes, but not so much that its disgusting.. just different.

I touched the magnet to my nail more times than I care to count.  If you watch your polish while holding the magnet, you can actually SEE a droplet of polish gravitate towards the magnet.  So half of those attempts I didn’t actually touch the magnet, my polish jumped out to give the magnet a hug.

For those of you new to Magnetic Polishes (I actually am still relatively new to them!) they are a a polish that has metallic particles in them that (while still wet) will react to the magnet and a pattern will appear.   If you wait too long for the polish to dry, the magnet will have no effect on the polish.

The smell of the polish is a little different than other polishes, but not so much that its disgusting.. just different.

Here are all 6 colors swatched from China Glaze Magnetix.  On each color I used the diagonal lines on my pointer finger, arrow design on my middle finger and the starburst on my ring finger.

You Move Me was probably one of my favorite of the bunch.  It reminds me of a Tiger Eye stone!  LOVE IT.  You Move Me came out as a nice medium golden brown with a lighter golden design.  This one scared me a bit because when I used the magnet over it, part of my nails looked bare!  But one I let it dry the polish spread out again and evened out.  Whew.

Cling On is a green metallic color with a lighter silvery green design.  The magnet designs on this one faded quick for me and I actually thought I screwed up until I put a top coat on but then they reappeared again!

Pull Me Close is a crytal blue metallic and this one was hard to photograph for me.  There is more blue in person and doesn’t look quite this silver.  Probably the hardest of the colors to work with in general.  The formula seemed runnier than the others (they all seem runnier than normal polishes though).

Attraction was a beauty!  This is a silver metallic and it went on dark and the magnet pulled up gorgeous medium silver.  The designs on this one (except the Arrow that hates me) showed up quick and flawlessly while applying.  Probably the quickest swatch I was able to do.

Instant Chemistry is another one of my favorites of this collection.  This is a gorgeous metallic berry color.  The designs aren’t as “stand out” on this one as they were on some of the others, but they were still noticeable.  The color without the magnets was amazing.  I will do a non magnetic mani using this color again.

Last but not least is Drawn to You.  Another one I loved from the collection.  This is a lilac metallic polish and another great color to wear without using the magnets.  This was another one that the design disappeared almost completely as it was drying and only reappeared after using a top coat!

Overall I am pleased with this set.  The colors are really nice and as I said earlier, very wearable even without using a magnet.  The arrow magnet was a huge thorn in my side, but I do think it is because of my nail shape more than anything.  I went through A LOT of nail polish remover while swatching these between a design not showing up right or the polish touching the magnet.

As I stated earlier all of these polishes seemed runnier than most China Glaze polish, but on the nail it didn’t pool up in the cuticle or anything.  I almost dripped on my work space a hundred times though!  The plastic part of the nail brush kept forming a drip (I caught 4 drips with my hand last night!).  The magnets do take a little practice as far as what distance to hold them, centering them and covering the whole nail (or at least 75% of it).  What is really frustrating is when you think you have it and all of a sudden you feel the magnet touch your nail… then you see your nail and besides the new smudge the design was PERFECT!  Ugh.

China Glaze Magnetix polish can be found at select beauty retailers and retails for $10.00 per bottle and $10.00 for the Magnet (contains 3 designs).  I purchased mine online for $4.08 per bottle and $4.08 for the magnets.

China Glaze Colour from the Capital collection will be available March 1st, 2012 at specialty beauty retailers and their collection of colors are still in development.

My wallet is already crying a little… but some of these colors are a must have for me – especially Electrify, Riveting, Luxe and Lush and Harvest moon.

China Glaze Magnetix (I’m going to be so broke in the coming months)

For months I’ve been reading about Magnetic Nail Polish but have never tried it.  I’ve seen videos of them and think they look awesome!  I may finally invest in them!

According to Drugstorenews.com China Glaze will be releasing a Limited Edition Collection called Magnetix in Mid February.  The polishes themselves will retail for $10.00 and you can buy the Magnets separately for another $10.00.  I’m assuming its $10.00 for the 3 available magnets which will be in the patterns Starburst, Diagonal Lines and Repeating Arrows.

The Magnetix lacquer colors will be in:

  • You Move Me — Luxe gold metallic;
  • Cling On — Gorgeous green metallic;
  • Pull Me Close — Crystal blue metallic;
  • Instant Chemistry — Sophisticated metallic berry;
  • Drawn To You — Subtle metallic lilac; and
  • Attraction — Chic metallic chrome.

Instant Chemistry and Attraction will be mine for sure!

Designs:

Again, these should be available in Mid-February for $10.00 per polish and $10.00 for the Magnet(s).

China Glaze Prismatics Spring 2012 Collection

I am dying to get my hands on this collection.

This limited edition collection was inspired by the beauty and magic of multi-coloured prisms. Complete with glitter and holographic-like technology. These six icy shades give the appearance of multi-layers of iridescent color

The China Glaze Prismatics colors will include:

  • Full Spectrum
  • Liquid Crystal
  • Optical Illusion
  • Polarized
  • Prism
  • Ray-diant

I’m pretty sure I can do without Optical Illusion – but the rest I would love to get my little hands on.  If I had to pick one, Prism is the one I want the most at this point in time!

The release is set for January (this month!) so I shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for these babies!
