Sandgrens Swedish Clogs Review

by Lisa Heath

Today I have something a little different for you!  Sandgrens Swedish Clogs!

Before the review – a little back story! 13 years ago I was on a balcony that collapsed.  I fell 3 stories onto concrete steps and completely shattered my heel and embedded my tibia into my ankle.  Went through surgery and had a Y shaped metal plate put in and several titanium screws.  After the accident, I had no balance in my right foot and I couldn’t chance having a klutz moment in stilettos, so I can only wear flats, chunky heels or clog style shoes for work or date night.

Also because of the metal and the injury, I do have arthritis in my right heel and ankle and extreme swelling if I’m on my feet too long or when it’s hot out, so I need backless shoes for the most part.  Otherwise it’s too constricting and hurts BAD.  So I have to be careful with my footwear.

Sandgrens Swedish Clogs sent me a pair of cute clog heels in the style Maya.

Sandrens Clog Full

These shoes are so cute!  I usually buy shoes I can wear to work OR on a casual day off.  The Maya style definitely goes with both!

Sandgrens Swedish Clogs are made using the finest leathers, wooden bases and metal hardware available throughout the world.

wood heel

The base of these heels are made from Spanish Pine and are thick.  It felt really sturdy and I was surprised at how comfortable the shoes were.  There isn’t much cushion on the inside.  but it didn’t bother me at all.  The heel itself is 3.9 inches.

Because the base is wood, there isn’t a ton of flexibility in the show, but the style has almost a rocking motion which makes walking and moving around pretty easy, but does take a little getting use to.

The upper portion of the Maya Clog is made of Horween Nubuc Leather and has a suede like look.

The base and upper portion are held together with small but thick metal staples.

And a side view.

While these not be everyone’s style, I do like more relaxed shoes and because I’m short, I like a little height with my shoes.

Comfort wise?  I loved these.  The first day I wore them they were a little snug (I do have wide feet) but they did stretch a little and after the initial trial day, they fit perfectly.  They had great support and offer an open back so my foot is very comfortable in case of swelling from my injury.  I also really like the fact that I can wear this with virtually any outfit.  These look great with jeans or with slacks!  As I mentioned earlier, the wood base isn’t flexible like typical shoes can be, but they have a rocking like feel while walking.

Sizing is in EU sizing and they do say that if you have wide feet like I do, go a size up!  I usually wear a size 8 in US, but because of my chunkier feet I went up to a size 40 EU.  If you contact customer support, I’m sure they will be happy to help you with any sizing questions.

The Maya style of clog is available in Black, Denim, Light Pink and Nature (light beige).

Price: $179.00

Where To Buy: Sandgrens Swedish Clogs Website

I know the price may seem a little high for some, but for the comfort I got out of them – I would definitely spend that kind of cash.  These are handmade, have great craftsmanship and are real leather and wood.  With all that in mind – the price sounds about on par with what is to be expected.

Sandgrens Swedish Clogs come in a large variety of styles.  From classic clogs to heels to boots!  I currently have my eye on Sandgrens Swedish Clogs in Isio and Bali Mid

Have you tried Sandgrens Swedish Clogs before?

As a child I wanted a pair of clogs so badly, I would beg my mom everyday. After a couple of months she gave in. The first occasion I wore them I rolled my ankle so bad I threw them out the window. I haven’t attempted clogs since.

Oof, that accident sounded brutal but I’m glad you’re ok and that you’ve been able to find shoes that work for you! I’m not a clog person myself, but I will definitely pass this along to my MIL who loves clogs!

OMG, that was a freaky accident my dear! Clogs are a big hit in the 90s; they came back 2-3 yrs ago. I would wear them again if I could. This brand looks very comfy!

So sorry to hear about your accident! I can’t wear heels because .. well, I’m klutzy, and they hurt! Even these clogs are a little high for me, but I do love how they look. I love a clog – just bought 2 from Easy Spirit! Isn’t it wonderful when you can find a versatile shoe that meets your needs? Yay!
