OPI Spotlight On Glitter Swatches, Reviews and a Couple Comparisons

by Lisa Heath

I’ve been busy busy this weekend!  The other night I reviewed the new OPI Sheer Tints, so be sure to check that post out too!

The OPI Spotlight On Glitter collection is a 6 piece glitter top coat collection with various types of glitter.  Do some look familiar?  They probably are.  I will show some comparisons as a few are similar to past collection glitters, so if you missed out on those back then – now is the time to snap them up!

All side by side comparisons are done over OPI Alpine Snow

Desperately Seeking Sequins

Desperately Seeking Sequins

Desperately Seeking Sequins is a delicate glitter topper that is a mix of small silver holographic hex glitters, micro bar glitters and micro glitters.  I used 1 coat over OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook.

Look a little familiar?  I matched it up with Which is Witch? from the OPI Oz Great and Powerful Collection that released March of 2013

I Reached My Gold!

I Reached My Gold

I Reached My Gold! is a clear base with large gold hex glitters, small silver holographic square glitters and small and micro silver holographic hex glitters.  I used 1 coat over OPI Toucan Do It If You Try.  Cute topper, but the gold hexes are slightly curled in the bottle and on the nail.

I Reached My Gold side

Look familiar?  This is identical to When Monkeys Fly from the OPI Oz the Great and Powrful Collection that released in March of 2013, curling glitter and all.  Weird thing though?  My When Monkey’s Fly hexes are all perfectly flat now, but weren’t when I got them.

You Pink Too Much

You Pink Too Much

You Pink Too Much is a clear base with light pink small hex glitters and silver holographic micro glitters mixed in.  I used 1 coat over OPI A Grape Fit.

You Pink Too Much side

You Pink Too Much CU

You Pink Too Much is similar to OPI Pink Yet Lavender from the OPI Mariah Carey collection that released in late 2012.

Chasing Rainbows

Chasing Rainbows

Chasing Rainbows is a mix of small and medium silver hex glitters with a rainbow assortment of small and medium hex glitters.  You get a ton of glitter with each dip of the brush!  I used 1 coat over OPI Don’t Bossa Nova Me Around.

Chasing Rainbows side

Look familiar?  This is similar to OPI Rainbow Connection from the Muppets Collection that released in 2011

Rainbow Connection is on the left, Chasing Rainbows is on the right.

Rose of Light

Rose Of Light

Rose of Light contains micro and small rose gold holographic glitters in a clear base.  My favorite of the 6.  I used 1 coat over OPI Coney Island Cotton Candy.

Rose Of Light side

I do not have an OPI glitter top coat identical to this one.

Blush Hour

Blush Hour

Blush Hour contains fuchsia, purple, silver and pink hex glitters in small and medium sizes in a lightly tinted sheer fuchsia base.  I used 1 coat over OPI Alpine Snow.

Overview

Aside from the fact that I already own 4 similar polishes from past OPI collections – it is a decent mix of glitter top coats.  If you don’t own the identical ones, you will probably like this collection, and even if you have some of the duplicates – you can save a little cash and only get the ones you don’t have.  I only had application issues with I Reached My Gold! due to curling glitters, otherwise – the remaining 5 applied without issue.

These can be used with Glitter Off — a new, peel-able base coat that allows for quick and easy removal when applied beneath any glitter shade.  To remove, use a cuticle stick to gently push and peel the glitter lacquer off the nail. No nail polish remover is necessary for this final step.

Spotlight on Glitter by OPI nail lacquers feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide Brush for the ultimate in application.  These six glitter shades and Glitter Off will be available March 2014 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.

Love glitter polishes. Not a fan of taking them off and I tend to pick. Glad you did side by side comparisons ; all look amazing and good to know some where from previous collections too. :)

I find it extremely annoying that OPI re-releases polishes with a new name. Especially one that caused such problems like When Monkeys Fly. It’s as if they don’t care about the consumers at all.

Great swatches! I’m surprised there are so many dupes in this collection, but Rose of Light is unlike any other glitter I’ve seen. Love it!

Thank you so much for the swatches and especially the comparisons, it helps save some money knowing I have similar OPI’s from past years already. I may still get “Chasing Rainbows” even though I have “Rainbow Connection” because I just love rainbow glitter. Not a dupe, but “Rose of Light” reminds me of a gold version of “In True Stefani Fashion”.

You are the second person to mention that your When Monkeys Fly hexes lay flat now when they didn’t before! Interesting…

I don’t mind the fact that these are re-promoting old glitters because I think that was the point with “Spotlight” on glitter… why not focus on some old glitters you released in the past esp with the indie craze of glitters?

Thanks a bunch for the great post, really is time-saving!

[…] these seem to be very close to other glitters from the OPI past, Lisa from Cosmetic Sanctuary did a comparison in her post so go check that out. I have mixed emotions on re-promotes. On one hand, for the avid collector […]
