L’Oreal Summer 2012 It’s Gold or Nothing At All Nail Lacquer Swatches and Reviews

Browsing Walgreens (again) the other day, I stumbled upon a fully stocked display for L’Oreal.  This is UNHEARD OF in any Walgreens around me.  New collections (especially polish) gets picked clean almost immediately.  I had 12 minutes left before I had to be at work, so I grabbed 1 of each polish, paid and left.

I can’t find a whole lot on this collection, it isn’t up on the L’Oreal site yet and I’ve only spotted 2 or 3 swatches of 1 or 2 of the polishes online so far, so I figured it would be a good idea for me to swatch these and post them up!

First polish – Pink Carat (160)

L’Oreal Pink Carat is a pretty pink that borders on coral.  I like the color, but I have a few similar to this in my collection already, so I could have passed on it.  I needed 3 coats for Pink Carat, the first 2 coats were fairly streaky for me.  No top coat used, it was glossy enough that it didn’t need it.

Next polish – Precious Coral (164)

Precious Coral is a coral that leaned heavily on the orange side.  Again, this is another color I could have passed on.  It’s pretty, but fairly common and probably has quite a few dupes out there already. I didn’t have the streaking issue like I had with Pink Carat and only had to use 2 coats.

Now we are moving onto the two colors that made me stop and inspect the display!

Silver Sparkle (162)

L’Oreal Silver Sparkle is the one I HAD to have and I’m glad I got it!  Silver Sparkle is a mixture of glitter all in one little bottle!  There are small silver glitter particles and slightly larger silver and iridescent hex glitter.  The silver flashes slightly champagne colored in some light and the iridescent glitter gives very small flashes of pale green, blue and pink.  I used 2 coats to cover the nail, but I could have used just one coat over another color.  So it is a stand alone glitter or a layering glitter.  This isn’t chunky either!  Even without a top coat Silver Sparkle is incredibly smooth for a glitter polish

Here is the last polish of the collection, Gorgeous Gold (168)

This is an olive toned gold glitter.  Gorgeous Glitter has small gold and green glitter particles and slightly larger gold hex glitter in a gold polish base.  This one is unique to my collection because although I have gold glitter polishes, I do not own any gold glitter in a gold base polish.  I could have easily gotten away with 1 coat, but I went for 2.  If Gorgeous Gold looked on the nail like it looked it the bottle it would have been gorgeous… but it didn’t.  It came out looking like a mess on me.  The gold polish base overpowers the glitter and makes the glitter look like lumpy pieces of polish instead of radiant glitter particles.  Up close you see the glitter, but I don’t walk around shoving my nails in people’s faces.

So far I have only heard of sightings of this collection at Walgreens, but I would imagine its available everywhere L’Oreal is sold.

L’Oreal nail lacquer retails for $5.99 per bottle.

You know… I LOVE the Silver Sparkle, I’ll have to find it… but I completely agree about the gold. The bottle shot looks so gorgeous, but on the nails it just looks… weird. Almost lumpy? If it looked just like the bottle though it’d be another must-buy.

I’ve noticed my drug stores (all of them) seem to be the same way. And then on top of that, some carry new stuff but others don’t… I went to Rite Aid in search of L.A. Girls Sparkling Peach, and they didn’t have that brand at all- so on a whim, I drove out to the one on the other side of town, and they had it! Multiple different displays! But no Color Club displays (the other had 2 among other unique things). I check a lot but my Walgreens never did get the Castaway collection from Sinful colors- good thing I didn’t have my heart set on them!

Ok, enough rambling :)

Gorgeous Gold was a let down. I really thought I would like it, but no dice :(

My Walgreens never got Sinful Colors Cast Away either, my heart wasn’t set on it, but I did look. Either it was picked clean and gone, or never there at all! I rarely go to RiteAid, but when I do I usually leave with nothing so I stopped going for the most part! Frustrating! lol
