KIND Healthy Grain Bars Review

by Lisa Heath

I have a little something different to review tonight!  As many of you know by now, I have an amazing little 8 year old boy, and he helped me a bit with this review!

KIND launched into a new category of snacks with KIND Healthy Grains Bars, a line of chewy with a crunch granola bars made from five super grains mixed with tasty ingredients like pumpkin seeds, toasted coconut flakes, dark chocolate chunks, and more. Each KIND Healthy Grains Bar packs one full serving of 100% whole grains, making them the perfect snack for a healthy lifestyle.

Kind

My son LOVES granola bars, so who better to help me test these out PLUS get the review from an adult (me) as well as a kid (him)?  He’s thrilled to help mom do a review and I’m so happy to have something he CAN review with me!

There is another reason I’m including him in on this review!  In honor of the launch of KIND new super grain-packed granola bar line, KIND Healthy Grains Bars wanted me to recognize my own super hero. Jacob truly my little super hero and the best thing that ever happened to me.  No matter what is going on, all I need to do is think of him and his goofy smile and I can’t help but feel better.  Ever hit those low points where you just want to curl up and go away?  Well, my little super hero makes me realize that of everything I’ve done… having him was the single best thing and makes everything worth it.  He also tells me the corniest jokes possible that I can’t help but laugh at.

Onto the review! We’ll go through each flavor I received and see what we each thought!

Oats & Honey

KIND Oats and Honey

KIND Healthy Grains Oat & Honey with Toasted Coconut bar is baked from a foundation of 5 super grains, combined with real ingredients like gluten free oats sweetened with honey and toasted coconut flakes.

Oats & Honey was my favorite of the 4 I tried.  It has a slight sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth but isn’t too sweet.

Jacob liked this one, but could really take it or leave it.  He didn’t love it, but he would eat it if it was all that was left.

Vanilla Blueberry

Kind Vanilla Blueberry

KIND Healthy Grains Vanilla Blueberry bar is baked from a foundation of 5 super grains, combined with all natural ingredients like blueberries.

This was my second favorite of the 4 flavors.  It has the hint of vanilla taste with a small burst of blueberry flavoring.  I prefer this one as a “breakfast” type bar over Oats & Honey though!

Jacob wasn’t interested in Vanilla Blueberry much.  He actually said “no thank you” when I offered him a second try on it.

Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate

Kind PB and Chocolate

KIND Healthy Grains Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate bar is baked from a foundation of 5 super grains, combined with real ingredients like dark chocolate and roasted peanuts.

While the flavor was ok with this one, it was a light flavor.  When I hear Peanut Butter and Chocolate I want a heavier taste of them (I’m a dessert junkie).  I didn’t get that satisfaction with this particular bar, but it was still good.

Jacob loved this one.  Hands down, without a doubt and he asked me to buy more for lunches at school.  Unfortunately due to all of the peanut allergies, he can’t go to school with these, but I told him I would purchase them for at home snacks.

Dark Chocolate Chunk

Kind Dark Chocolate Chunk

KIND Healthy Grains Dark Chocolate Chunk bar is baked from a foundation of 5 super grains, combined with real dark chocolate.

Surprisingly enough, this was my least favorite of the 4.  Again, it wasn’t horrible – but I preferred the 3 above to this one.

Jacob liked it.  He didn’t love it though.  When asked he just said it was “alright”.

Overview

Overall these are pretty good.  I’m always skeptical of foods that claim healthy and tasty, because usually it tastes like cardboard.  KIND bars are a little on the blander side, so if you think you are going to get the sweet sugary taste like in some traditional bars, you will be mistaken.  Each KIND bar has a touch of sweetness without going overboard on it.  The texture is slightly crunchy but also a little chewy, which I liked. They are a bit fragile though and I don’t think I made it through any of the bars as a whole, as they all broke a little bit and I would need a napkin to catch the small grains falling off while eating.

KIND Healthy Grain Bars are a great low calorie, gluten free, all natural snack.

My top choices:  Oats & Honey and Vanilla Blueberry

Jacob’s top choices: Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate and Oats & Honey

Will I be purchasing more KIND products?  YES!  If my son likes even SOME of them, I’m all for it.  And to have him ASKING me to purchase a healthy snack for him to have more of… how can I really say no to that?

Hope you loved the review!  Have you tried KIND products?  I’d love to hear your favorites so I know what else to buy for myself and my little super hero!

I eat healthy at home, but at work it’s hard to when I don’t have anything there and people bring in junk food to share! These are perfect to stash away for when I get the urge to snack

I loved reading Jacob’s reviews. How cute! I’d bet he enjoyed being a part of mommy’s blog, or at least getting to try some treats!

I’ve tried Kind bars and I like them! I always have to buy soy free bars, which can be tricky.

I can’t remember which one I tasted last year – but I didn’t really like it… but my sister is a total addict. But – I’m always willing to try again – because it may have just been that one that I didn’t like ;)
